ENCOURAGEMENT FOR THE DAY!

price-tag-priceless copy

A quick word of encouragement for the day….

Do you realize how VALUABLE + PRICELESS you are?  Truly deep down in the core of your soul… do you realize it?  The word “valuable” has been resonating with me all week. Women around the world from all walks of life struggle with this word.

The definition of valuable is “something that is of great worth”.

As I have mentioned on this blog more than once, I did not realize my worth until I truly grasped the concept that I was a child of God.  Many of you are Mothers, so think of how precious, perfect (even when they get on your last nerve), valuable, beautiful and truly special you think your children are?  That is how God thinks of each of you.  YES, YOU SISTA!   God is the Master Creator and does not make mistakes.  You are Divinely Designed…A Masterpiece. Start viewing yourself as such!  Today, strip away the titles you wear and stand in boldly in the beauty that is YOU and you alone.  Not as mom, wife, sister, daughter, employee, grandma, aunt, etc… as (  your name  ).   Love her today, cherish her and begin to realize how valuable she is… JUST AS SHE IS.

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. I know that full well. (Psalm 139:13-14. NIV)

Go do something special for yourself today to celebrate

YOUR AWESOMENESS!

Be grateful for who you are and stop comparing yourself to others.  You are a masterpiece and they are a masterpiece.  We don’t go around comparing Michelango’s works to DaVinci’s.  It just doesn’t make sense, right?

Love, Tiff

BE IRRESISTABLE by Plus-Size Style Expert Marcy Guevara

LIL_4367

Yves Saint Laurent once said,  ”I have always believed that fashion was not only to make women more beautiful, but also to reassure them, give them confidence.”

What is confidence?  Can it be bought?  Can it be taught?

As a plus-size style expert, women of all sizes ask me, more than anything, WHERE I FIND MY CONFIDENCE.  I believe that SELF-ESTEEM and CONFIDENCE is something you have 100% control and power over in your life.

Here are three quick tips for starting to cultivate confidence:

First, it is important to acknowledge a few things you love about yourself.  You have to love the skin you’re in, because if you don’t no one will.  We all have problem areas, start to focus on your “positive areas”.  The more you complain about your thighs won’t make them thinner, so take a walk instead.  Your thighs may never get smaller, but the feelings of accomplishment, the fresh air and the energy you’ll feel after the walk are priceless!

Second, train yourself to be confident.  Everyday so many thoughts run through our minds that are negative, self-hating, self-shaming and cause us to break down.  You must begin to take these thoughts captive and replace them with loving and positive thoughts.

Third, affirm yourself.  Stop waiting for the recognition of others and affirm yourself. I love using affirmations to start my day. Write a few on a mirror or on a card you place on your desk or car and use them to build yourself up.  They can be as simple as “I love me” or as intricate as “I am an interesting, beautiful and unique person with lots to offer the world”. Get creative!

I LOVE ME Challenge 2013

How we portray ourselves to others attracts business, love, prosperity… draw people in with your confidence.  BE IRRESISTABLE. You have control over this. I hope you will take these thoughts and give yourself the grace to be a work in progress.  Take this challenge one day at a time so eventually you become the BEST you.

CONSISTENTLY COURAGEOUS {Sunday Affirmations}

quote-courage-is-the-most-important-of-all-the-virtues-because-without-courage-you-can-t-practice-any-maya-angelou-5507

Hey Wonder Woman!

Last week I watched the episode of Super Soul Sunday with Maya Angelou online.  Have you seen it?  I think Part 2 is still posted so try to catch it.  Her story of courage, triumph, bravery and success has been resonating with me all week.  In this Oprah interview, Maya spoke of the concept of courage being the foundation of all other virtues (above quote) so it forced me to look inward at my own level of courage.  Often throughout my life, I have been courageous and brave, but there are also many times I have tucked my tail between my legs and chose to shrink back.  We all have a certain level of courage, but what is that special ingredient that gives us that little bit extra tenacity to tap into our inner Wonder Woman and push forward instead of shrinking back?  Can you think of a time right now when you consciously chose to dig deeper and dust off your red + gold bustier?  It’s a great exercise to reflect on those moments as a reminder for the next time we are tempted to be a coward instead of courageous.

Courage is the ability to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation.

I takes courage to walk down the aisle and make the vow. It takes courage to wake up everyday and raise your child.  It takes courage to follow your dreams.  It takes courage to walk away from a toxic relationship.  It takes courage to speak your truth. It takes courage not to conform.  It takes courage to let go of your past. So, yes– I definitely believe in Ms. Angelou’s concept that it takes courage to practice all the other virtues consistently.  Cheers to all of us having more consistent courage this week.  Even if you have to fake-it-till-ya-make it.  You can be courageous even when you don’t feel like.  I love John Wayne’s quote, “Courage is being scared and saddling up anyway”. Go lock yourself in the bathroom and do the Wonder Woman spin if it will help….

THIS WEEK I WILL…..

  1. Reflect on my many courageous moments.
  2. Dig deeper when I feel my wimpy self taking over.
  3. Not shrink back.
  4. Dust off my imaginary red + gold bustier.
  5. Remember God is always on my side.
  6. Be brave!
  7. Never ever ever ever give up.
  8. Not allow anyone to intimidate me.
  9. Face my fears head on.
  10. Pray to have more courage.
  11. Do the right thing.
  12. Put my shoulders back + WALK TALL!

END OF MAY SOS BEAUTY/STYLE/INSPIRATION

Hey Style Sistas!

WOOHOO!  It’s officially Summer and as the temps continue to heat up, here’s a few tips for staying cool and looking fabulous, plus some inspiration for the week ahead:

WRAP THAT HAIR UP!

Tiff_leopard_headscarf

Regardless of your hair length, it can get so sticky and uncomfortable, plus the humidity can have you looking like a wet mop during summer.  There are so many ways to keep it off your neck without reverting to the boring old ponytail.  This summer, the Retro 50′s look is everywhere from swimsuits, rolled up jeans, cat eye shades and headscarfs–which you all know is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!   Channel your inner Old Hollywood actress like Sophia Loren or Audrey Hepburn and play around with scarves.  Check out my Pinterest Board on headscarves for more ideas and inspiration.

SPRAY THAT FACE!

rosepetalsrosewater

Keep a bottle of aromatherapy hydrating spray nearby at all times during the hot months.  I even keep a small travel size bottle in my purse!  When you’re skin is feeling parched, spritz it on your face, neck, decolletage and down your arms.  My favorite is the Rose Water by Heritage Products.  There are also easy DIY recipes by adding your favorite essential oils, pure aloe vera juice, cucumber or lemon to distilled water.

BE INSPIRED!

Whew, the month of May whizzed by!  Did you set any specific intentions for the month?  If so, please share any magical moments!

Let us be grateful for the good times May brought, any special memories made with new or old friends, exciting experiences and opportunities then begin to set your intentions for June.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,

we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power

and the glory, now and forever Amen.

GIRL TIME vs. GYM TIME {Sunday Affirmations}

Spiritual_Sisters_RedO

{Spiritual Sisters Group}

{LtoR: Laurie, Laura, Julianna, Patricia, Amy, Brooke, Me, Marcy, Cortney.  Thank you for opening your hearts, ears + arms to me.  Grateful for my LA sisterhood. Love ya’ll}

Hey Gorgeous Gang!

A few days ago I received one of those mass emails that I not only stopped and read, but it made me stop and think.  Then, I sat there a moment and gave gratitude for all the amazing women who have been part of my journey in life.  Some are still on the journey and some were only there for a reason or a season, but regardless– they made an impact on my life.  I really cherish the long friendships I have. You know those girlfriends who immediately take you back to your authentic self in the first 30 seconds you see them.  They knew you before you took on the title of mom or wife and have you feeling like your free-spirited 18 year old self again.  I’m also excited to be sassy and silver-headed with these girlfriends in 20 years!

Since childhood, I have always thrived most when I had a tight posse of girlfriends. Being in a group atmosphere was where I felt at home, whether it was on a cheerleading squad, youth group or even amongst the group of models I traveled with when I was a beer girl. (yes, I was a Tecate poster model)  I can hear you laughing!  Hey, if you’re a young eager model in Texas– you started out as a beer girl and we all have to start somewhere, right?!  I was always part of a group, but went through a period right after I got married where I felt isolated here in LA and had a difficult time reaching out. Depression hit me hard and my health suffered tremendously with everything from migraines, anxiety, acne and ulcers.  I didn’t realize it then, but my lack of connection was a big part of the problem. Plus, I was in the midst of a serious spiritual healing on top of adjusting to marriage.  I WAS ONE….BIG….HOT….MESS!

Ok, back to that email.  One of the main reasons I opened the email was because it was sent from a dear friend (love you Amy) I’ve known since I was a teenager and she never, ever forwards mass emails. You know those emails your mom  forwards that has cute pictures of dogs napping or it’s a superstition stating if you forward this email to 10 people you will have a financial breakthrough or someone will call you with good news in the next 24 hours. Yes, we have all gotten them and yes, I admit to forwarding mass emails and in fact, I forwarded a prayer recently that I will be sharing with you all next week because it’s just THAT GOOD!  Several friends replied telling me that it was exactly what they needed that day so always go with your gut and pass along the encouraging ones. You never know who needs the lift that day!

Ok, again– back to the email Amy sent me.  The subject title was “Girlfriend Time” and since that is one of my all time fave things… I opened it immediately.   Due to that period I dealt with depression as a newlywed, I am now a firm believer in the importance of women connecting and knew I had to share this email with my SOS sistas.  I researched the email chain and found out that it was a legitimate lecture given at Stanford, but there is no online source stating who the author was.

Without the unconditional love, support, laughs, prayers, pats on the back and slaps upside the head– I’m not sure where I would be without my girlfriends. Plus, the sacred space I share twice a month with my spiritual group has created the sense of belonging I was missing for years here in LA. This is a topic I discuss often and may sound like a broken record, but it’s because CONNECTION is so vital to our well being and now we have proof it helps our health as well–maybe even more than hitting the gym! Whew, this is a long post, but please read on…..

best_friend_talking

Here’s the email….

“I just finished taking an evening class at Stanford. The last lecture was on the mind-body connection – the relationship between stress and disease. The speaker (head of psychiatry at Stanford) said, among other things, that one of the best things that a man could do for his health is to be married to a woman, whereas for a woman, one of the best things she could do for her health was to nurture her relationships with her girlfriends.

Women connect with each other differently and provide support systems that help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences. Physically this quality “girlfriend time” helps us to create more serotonin – a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and can create a general feeling of well being. Women share feelings whereas men often form relationships around activities. They rarely sit down with a buddy and talk about how they feel about certain things or how their personal lives are going. Jobs? Yes. Sports? Yes. Cars? Yes. Fishing, hunting, golf? Yes. But their feelings? Rarely.

Women do it all of the time. We share from our souls with our sisters/mothers, and evidently that is very good for our health. He said that spending time with a friend is just as important to our general health as jogging or working out at a gym. (HOLLA!!!)

There’s a tendency to think that when we are “exercising” we are doing something good for our bodies, but when we are hanging out with friends, we are wasting our time and should be more productively engaged—not true. In fact, he said that failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other humans is as dangerous to our physical health as smoking! (SAY WHAT???)

So every time you hang out to schmooze with a gal pal, just pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself for doing something good for your health! We are indeed very, very lucky. Sooooo let’s toast to our friendship with our girlfriends!  Evidently it’s very good for our health.

This week I will….

  1. Schedule girlfriend time.
  2. Give gratitude for all the amazing women in my life.
  3. Be a better friend.
  4. Open up to a trusting friend + share my soul. (It could add yrs to my life)
  5. Release any toxic friendships once and for all.
  6. Pray for my girlfriends.
  7. Nurture all the women in my life no matter their age. (even your 9 yr old niece)
  8. Listen without “one-upping” (thanks Brene Brown)
  9. Reach out the minute I feel lonely. (stop the wallowing before it starts)
  10. Not take my genuine friendships for granted.
  11. Toast to the fabulous friends in my life!

FORWARD THIS POST TO ALL YOUR GIRLFRIENDS.

Share/Tweet/Pin the SOS love!

I close my eyes, bow my head and pray for you ALL to be richly blessed in the coming week.

What do you INTEND to do? {Sunday Affirmations}

Happy Sunday Sweet Friends!

Sticky_Note

Here’s a video message from the beach…

Are you wondering what it means to set an intention?  I believe it’s basically making up your mind what you want.  Yes, it sounds simple, but like I mentioned in a post last week– it’s powerful when we get clear, get focused and make up our minds.  Then, the real power is in the follow through.  I also believe we are setting intentions when we pray and share with God what we want a desired outcome to be.  Let’s look at intentions without follow through.  How often do we say things like…Oh, I intended to call youOh, it was my intention to lose 5 lbs before summer…I’m sorry I hurt your feelings it was not my intent??  It feels pretty crappy, right?  Let’s get to following through, shall we?  My hubby and I have had a somewhat challenging few months so I made up my mind that no matter what– May was going to be amazing!

I see the word intention as a fancy name for GOAL– but, with an added oomph of Spiritual Power behind it.  Without intentions for our life, we tend to wander.  If you feel like you have lost direction and are wandering through life, here are 5 steps to setting intentions.  It’s very important to put your Faith behind it and trust God for guidance.

  1. DECIDE.  What do you want the outcome to be?  It’s as simple as that.  Making the decision is a huge first step!
  2. WRITE IT OUT.  Make it official by writing your intentions in your journal or putting up sticky notes in places you can see them on a regular basis.  I have sticky notes on the sides of my computer monitor, bathroom mirror and fridge.  This is a powerful daily reminder to keep your thoughts going in the right direction.
  3. SHARE.  Find a trusting friend/mentor or group to hold your intentions with you.  By sharing your desired outcome with others, you create a “mastermind” of positive thoughts.  One of my favorite books is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill.  His definition of a mastermind is– “Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”  Make sure to share with those of a like-minded spirit and steer clear of anyone who may try to sabotage your goals or be unsupportive.  I’m grateful for my Spiritual women’s group.  We are like a power team of cheerleaders who not only encourage one another, but we also call each other out when the fear and whining takes over… we do so with unconditional love, of course.
  4. LIVE IT.  Act as if your outcome is here NOW!  Speak as if it’s here.  Your words and actions have a powerful effect so be mindful of what you are doing, thinking and saying.  Get committed!
  5. NEVER GIVE UP.  Period.

I know what you are thinking right now– Hey Tiff,  so what’s the difference between affirmations and intentions?  They are marriage partners, first cousins, Batman + Robin!  Affirmations are basically spoken intentions.  They are the daily statements we declare over our lives based on our intentions.  They help you course correct when you tend to wander.  Affirmations and intentions are the power combo to creating the life of your dreams!  Add in specific actions, prayer and a vision board then WATCH OUT– you are destined for success!

THIS WEEK I WILL….

  1. Really think about what I want.
  2. Make up my mind already.
  3. Stick to my decision.
  4. Set intentions.
  5. Share my intentions with a trusting friend.
  6. Join or create a mastermind group.
  7. Act as if my goals/intentions are here now.
  8. Say my life affirmations daily.
  9. Write them out and hang them in plain sight.
  10. Pray.
  11. Claim I am destined for… and deserve the life of my dreams!

What are your thoughts on this? I would love to hear.

Like, share, tweet, pin this post if you found it inspiring!

I INTEND ON HAVING AN AMAZING MONTH….AN AMAZING YEAR!

FABULOUS FRIDAY {A lil beauty, style + inspiration}

ELF_lipbalm

HAPPY FRIDAY FASHIONISTAS!

BEAUTY: I am in love with e.l.f. products and recently picked up this fabulous tinted lip balm with SPF 15Only $3.00 and it’s super moisturizing with a touch of color plus it protects your smackers from harmful rays.  For a lipgloss/lipbalm/lipstick addict, it’s perfect for casual days when you are heading to the gym, the pool or just hanging at home.  Target has the biggest selection of e.l.f products!

Tiff_africa_necklace

red triangle stone bib necklace

STYLE: One of my fave “go to” items is a chic black blazer, but it can become boring when you wear it on a regular basis.  The quickest ways to transform and add life to any boring outfit is to add a colorful statement necklace.  I’m obsessed with this turquoise bib necklace I picked up on my trip to Africa a few years ago.  A colorful geometric necklace is also super hot this Spring/Summer.

Tree_People_stairs

INSPIRATION: Toward the end of a long hike yesterday, I came across these wooden stairs.  My legs were totally fatigued, but I had to climb these stairs to get to my car.  Grrrrrrr- I just stood there panting and annoyed that I had to tackle these after I already made the long journey.  Funny, this is such a profound symbolism for our life’s journey, isn’t it?!  I had to snap a pic as a reminder.   Of course, I sucked it up and climbed this short- but challenging- flight of stairs and made it to the finish line, my car and A/C.  Just when you think you can’t go on any longer, remember you are stronger than you “feel” so keep climbing, keep going and never give up no matter what hurdles, mountains, valleys, potholes or staircases you encounter along the journey.  Dig deeper and you will reach the finish line with hands waving in the air and breeze in your hair.

HAVE A FABULOUS FRIDAY + WEEKEND AHEAD!

HELLO MAY! May it be amazing!

hello_may

I love the first day of a new month and wanted to wish you all an A{MAY}ZING MONTH OF MAY!   It’s a great time to take a good long look at your vision board and set your intentions for the new month.

I INTEND ON HAVING AN AMAZING MONTH!  YOU?

Life can distract us (especially when you have a touch of ADD like me) so the clean slate on the calendar gives us the opportunity to make tweaks or adjustments to ensure we have an even better month than the previous one.   There’s something magical and special about May to me.  It’s not quite summer yet and it’s not quite spring any longer.  The month after May marks our halfway point in the year.  If we make May amazing then hopefully it will set the tone for the remaining 6 months of 2013.

Have you slacked off in certain areas?

Maybe in your workouts?  Prayer time? Connecting with the VIP’s in your life?  Taking time on yourself so you feel confident when you walk out the door in the mornings? Living on auto-pilot instead of being fully present?

Tweak it sista!

Also, let’s all take a few minutes each day in May to acknowledge the amazing things in our lives and show gratitude for them.  31 days of this and just watch the overflow of more amazing things to come for the rest of the year.  I love urbandictionary.com’s defnintion of the word AMAZING: Something that is so wonderful, it is hard to find the words to match. Something that makes your heart beat faster or your heart melt. Something that tops everything else, and always crosses your mind.

YOU ARE AMAZING!

Love, Tiff

MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY {Sunday Affirmations}

FIFERS_april2013

Happy Sunday Girlfriend!

I trust you are all having a beautiful weekend.  I’m playing catch up after spending most of the week in Dallas.  It was a wirlwind trip filled with playtime with the most precious toddlers, laughing over wine with dear girlfriends of 20+ years and of course, over-indulging in my fave food– TexMex!  Something that has been resonating with me since my return to LA is how inspired I am by the women in my life.  We seem to look for inspiration everywhere these days (I even base my blog + webseries on it) in the latest motivational book endorsed by Oprah, in movies, art, church or even on Pinterest.  Sometimes all we need to do is look at the lives of our nearest and dearest.  Inspiration is right under our nose and can so easily be overlooked and underappreciated.  There were several beautiful life lessons I learned on this trip, but the thing that made the most impact was how powerful it is when a woman MAKES UP HER MIND to do something.  Hold on to your hats boys… Hurricane Sally is coming through town!   When mama makes up her mind… shizzle gets done!

Christine_Tiff_Heidi2

I had so many thought-provoking conversations on my trip with women from all walks of life, but there are a few scenarios that inspired me the most.  Remember a few weeks ago, I posted a blog about my friend Christine who recently went through 15-16 rounds of chemo.  Well, just two weeks ago Christine underwent a mastectomy.  On top of that, I was not aware that prior to her finding out about the cancer, she had torn a ligament in her wrist from yoga.  She had what was suppose to be a simple surgery that turned into a nightmare leaving her with a permanent metal rod from her hand halfway up her forearm.  She not only lost a breast in the past year she has lost the use of her hand and may never do yoga again.  When you are in Christine’s presence you sense nothing but gratitude, bravery and strength.  It overwhelmed me!  She doesn’t feel sorry for herself and doesn’t play the ‘woe is me’ sad song.  She put a smile on her face and made up her mind in the beginning of this journey that she would stay positive and get through it…SHE DID JUST THAT!  She even got dressed up complete with a fab wig and attended Heidi’s birthday party only a few weeks after surgery!  CAN WE SAY ROCKSTAR!?!

Another inspiring woman– a family friend, who has fluctuated with her weight for years, recently lost over 60 pounds and I barely recognized her.  Hello Supermodel!!  She not only looked amazing physically, but she was glowing and had a beautiful sparkle in her eye.  We had an intimate chat and she explained how she was looking forward to starting a family and wanted to be as healthy as possible during her pregnancy, plus be a healthy and strong mom for her kids as they grew. WOW!  SO INSPIRING!  She made up her mind and lost the weight.  Once and for all.  I am so sick of hearing myself complain about “that 5-10 lbs”.  Who’s with me?  If she can make up her mind to lose 60 then surely I can make up mind and get rid of that stubborn 5.  I have stepped it up with my workouts recently, but I am about to become hardcore BFF’s with the treadmill and achieve my goal already!

Belmont_dallas_skyline

One more inspiring story I want to share with you was hearing that one of my dearest friends is about to close on a home.  She has fulfilled most of her dreams throughout our friendship and then some, but one of her most important was to own a home.  After searching and searching she finally found the one!  Sometimes our dreams seem so far off in the distance or like they will never come to pass.  If you set your mind, never give up, keep believing, keep praying and keep working towards it– YOU WILL ACHIEVE!   Imagine yourself sitting in that dream kitchen.  Never lose sight. Then one day you will wake up and actually be sipping that first cup of coffee in your new home.

Jodi_Tiff_Heidi

Are you wishy washy?  Do you battle with wavering, hemming + hawing and doubting yourself?  I admit I can think a thing to death because I can’t seem to make up my mind sometimes.  We play that mind game because we FEAR the outcome of making the wrong choice.  I read something recently to the effect of “we are free to choose, but we are not free of the consequences of our choice”…so like most issues, the root of indecision is that dreaded four lettered F word– FEAR.  Our minds are so powerful when we focus on the outcome we desire and make the decision that NOTHING will stop us from achieving it.

THIS WEEK I WILL…..

  1. Stop the mind games.
  2. Quit the hemming and hawing.
  3. Connect with inspiring girlfriends + ignore the whiners!
  4. Release the fear.
  5. Choose love, joy and peace.
  6. Fake it till I make it if I have to.
  7. Focus on my dreams.
  8. Keep growing + stepping into my greatness.
  9. SMILE MORE.
  10. Trust in God’s destiny for me.
  11. Believe that I will achieve!

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Please share, pin or tweet this with your friends.

Remember…your mind is a beautiful + very powerful thing!
