BA-BYE OLD LIFE: It is possible to live your dreams!

NewLife_oldlife

Happy Sunday Sassafrass!

There’s a bit of a twist to the Sunday post today.  My dear girlfriend Julianna shared these awesome tips last week and I had to pass them along to all of you.  I know we’ve all read a million motivational and self-help books, but I gladly welcome constant reminders like these.  There will be no specific affirmations today so use these 7 tips as your ‘kick in the bootie’ and inspiration for the week ahead…

7 “Have To’s” to Achieve Personal Growth – By Chris Widener

Quite frankly, I wish personal growth would just happen! I wish I would just get better and money would fall out of the sky. I wish my waist would get smaller even as I sit on the couch in front of a warm fire eating Breyer’s Vanilla Bean ice cream. Oh, how I wish it was easy!

Okay, enough whining, enough dreaming, enough lack of reality. I have it out of my system! The reality is that it is work to grow personally. The sooner we realize that, even lovingly embrace that, the sooner we jump on the highway of success! The fact is that we “have to” do some things! As my uncle the truck driver use to say to me when I was a kid, “Wish in one hand and spit in the other – then see which one fills first.” (Remember, he was a trucker, and somebody else may have been a bit more elegant, but I still remember it today, 25 years later. I recommend however that you take it at face value. It isn’t a fun experiment to actually carry out!).

Without any further ado, here are the seven “have-to’s” to achieve personal growth for yourself. Don’t wish anymore! Get on the ball and start reaping the rewards!

1. You have to know what it is that you want.

Wanting personal growth isn’t enough. Do you want more money? How much? Do you want to lose weight? How much? Do you want a spouse? Who? Do you want to travel? Where? Do you want more freedom in your professional life? What would that look like? Clearly define in your mind what it is that you want! Once you do…

2. You have to decide that you really want it.

Do you really want it? That is the place to start, really, because I have realized working with people that many of them really don’t want what they think they want once I talk them through all of the issues. Is this what you really want or is it a dream you have to escape something else? For example, do you really want to quit your job and start your own company? Do you want the risk of reputation? The risk of capital loss? Do you want to work from six in the morning until nine at night, seven days a week for the next two to three years? Do you really want it? Yes? Proceed…

3. You have to be willing to sacrifice to get it.

What will you give up to get personal growth? I know what I have to give up to be able to fit into size 32 pants – mud pie! Now, you may not think that is so bad, but you don’t know how much I love mud pie! I know that it is a sacrifice for me to get to the gym every day of the week (okay, I usually take two Sunday afternoons a month off). I know how much I write the check out for each month to belong to the gym – it would feed a small army. This is sacrifice, all of it. What are you willing to sacrifice to get personal growth in your life? Are you willing? Then proceed…

4. You have to be willing to be criticized.

Surprisingly, the average person doesn’t like the average achiever. Why? Because they make the average person feel, well, average. They resent that the achiever makes choices they don’t make, even though they could too. And they secretly resent that the achiever benefits from rewards that they don’t. It seems odd, but working with thousands of people over the years I have seen enough jealousy and envy to fill every seat in the Rose Bowl. Can you handle that to various degrees? Then see number five…

5. You have to decide you want it more than other pleasures.

What is more pleasurable: Ice cream every night or a proper weight? What is more pleasurable: Sitting on the couch or pounding away on a treadmill? What is more pleasurable: Spending your money on the things you want right now or saving for later? What is more pleasurable: Getting off at five every night or working endlessly on the weekends? What is more pleasurable: Reading a favorite novel or a technical book? What is more pleasurable: Four weeks of vacation or one? You get the point. In order to grow personally or professionally, there will have to be a desire to work hard in spite of the pleasures that call your name. And if you work it right, in the end there will be plenty of time to reward yourself with the pleasures of accomplishment. Do you want it more that other pleasures? Really? Then let’s move on…

6. You have to take a long-term approach.

Why do most people fail to accomplish their personal growth goals? Because they take a short-term approach. They know what to do. They do it for a week or a month, then they quit. Every January the gym gets so busy. Then February rolls around and I have no problem getting on the machines! In order to accomplish your personal growth goals, you absolutely, positively must view it as a long-term goal. For example, when most people want to lose weight, what do they do? They change their diet until they lose it. Then what? They change it back and gain the weight back. Instead, they ought to say, I am changing the way I eat for the rest of my life and slowly but surely my weight will take care of itself. And it does! Are you capable of seeing your personal goals in the long-term? Well then you are ready for number seven…

7. You have to diligently, methodically, and relentlessly work at it.

Every day, every week, every year. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. I was on a conference call with Zig Ziglar last night and he made an incredible revelation. For 25 years he has read for three hours a day! No wonder he oozes information! That is diligence. That is methodical. That is relentless! Can you do the same for yourself in the area you want to grow in? Certainly! But will you, that is the question. If you do, you will achieve any dream you set forth for yourself!

You can achieve personal growth!

It is entirely possible for you to live your dreams!

Put the above to work and you will see them unfold before your very eyes!

Just remember, it won’t just happen to you, you “have-to” do some things!

One thing I would like to add is the importance of praying for yourself, your growth, your goals, your dreams.  Ask God for guidance.  Ask Him to reveal blocks + behaviors that could be sabotaging your growth.

Don’t Sweat It, Girl! How to be Stress-Free in 2013 by Guest Blogger- Ryan Rivera

Hi Steel Magnolias!  Happy New Year!

Many of you have written in and expressed that you’re battling anxiety and panic attacks.  I have been there girlfriend.  The first time I had a panic attack about 15 years ago, I thought I was dying and it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest.  The long term physical and emotional pain we experience from anxiety will ultimately rob of us from living the healthy life we deserve!   I’m excited that Ryan Rivera of The Calm Clinic reached out to share his tips with us.  I thought this was the perfect reinforcement we needed as we hit the new year running….

ANXIETY_strength

Modern life and everyday living can be so stressful, and women often find these to be causes for anxiety. Then there is that time of the month when our estrogen levels, which affect our vulnerability and anxiousness, fall below normal. This makes us more prone to emotional roller coasters that severely affect our mood.  On a normal day, we stress ourselves out over trivial matters, and then work or family-related matters add up to the pressure. The next thing you know, you’re totally dazed.

While we can’t really escape the trappings of the daily grind, we can choose to handle it better.  Know which tasks to spend time on and which ones to abandon.  Lighten your load and see how your world can open up and become a more vibrant, positive place.  A lot of women find themselves wallowing in their woes and burdens, feeling incapable of escaping the lives they built for themselves. The truth is that you can always choose to improve your life and not waste time on the petty things that carry the most weight.

Don’t let stress and anxiety render you incapable of living the life you want. You can use both to motivate you to be the best in everything you do, but don’t let it get to you so bad that you start feeling inadequate on a regular basis. Don’t think too much about what other people might say about you, don’t pour over the littlest things, and spend too much time worrying about small issues.  Anxiety can help fuel you at times, but it can also cripple your abilities and prevent you from performing when you let it get to you.

Since hormones don’t really work in our favor, women should remain headstrong and persistent.  It may take more effort for us to be able to move forward and battle the anxiety which could hinder us from getting what we want, but it will be worth it!  Don’t sweat the small stuff and just keep doing what you need to do in order for you to achieve your goals. Never allow anyone or anything to stop you from succeeding in life.

Here are 5 simple and doable things you can do to reduce anxiety:

  1. Exercise. Try signing up for a gym membership or work out on your own just to channel the negative energy that’s pent up in your system.  A good workout will boost your endorphins as well.
  2. Get crafty. Get into a new hobby and learn new skills. Who knows? Something that starts as a hobby could end up a source of income for you. This happens to a lot of people. They earn out of something they love doing.
  3. Rest and relax. Unwind and don’t let yourself be bothered by stressful thoughts. You don’t have to splurge to unwind. It can be a day at the spa, lunch date with friends, or movie date with your loved one.
  4. Form healthy habits.  Eat right and stop the vices.  If you maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle, it will allow you to perform better at work and accomplish tasks more.
  5. Find more things that make you happy.  Open your eyes to the beauty around you.  Focus on the things that make you happy and spend less time focused on the things that stress you out.  Make sure to slow down as well.  There’s power in the saying, “stop and smell the roses”.

Women should not become victims of feelings of anxiety. There is so much more to life than having to go through the pressure of living up to other people’s standards. Do things as you please, and live your life the way you want to.  Create your own ways of fighting off anxiety and you are sure to perform beyond what is expected of you, which can help you live a fulfilled life!

ABOUT RYAN RIVERA, Publisher & Founder of http://www.calmclinic.com

Ryan Rivera has spent 7 years of his life suffering from, as he calls it, the “whole package” – panic attacks, severe anxiety, agoraphobia, social anxiety, unbearable physical symptoms, headaches, neck pains, constant tension, diarrhea, palpitations, pounding heart.  After trying numerous different treatments for his anxiety (including various medication) a tipping-point in his life made him overcome his emotional problems.

Have you found a great method to reduce anxiety? Please comment and share it!

I have learned to keep my schedule light and stop putting too much on my plate.  This has done wonders!  I also turn my phone on silent a few times a day, take a brisk walk and run a hot bath to keep me from going coocoo for cocoa puffs!

Remember, anxiety is often caused by FEAR so by letting go of the fear, you will also let go of your anxiety.   2012 brought a ton of stress for most of us, but we can make a few small tweaks to ensure the new year will be different.

WATCH THIS:

ROCK_anyoutfit

adventure_begins

My wish for all of you is to find more peace and happiness in 2013 than you ever thought possible.  It all starts with YOU!  Making the choice to love yourself will keep you motivated FOR LIFE!  Look ahead with excitement and let the adventure begin.  Make yourself proud sista!

Thank you for being part of this Sisterhood.  I plan to bring you even more tips, insight, inspiration and encouragement to help strengthen and empower you in 2013.  Please make a comment and share any topics you are interested in discussing.  I want to hear from you!

Lastly, I cannot stress enough the importance of goal setting and visualizing for the year ahead.  Take some quiet time, search your heart and write out your goals and dreams.  Take a few days to do this if need be!  Don’t rush it.  I make it a fun, childlike and creative process and pull out my markers.

A great idea is to list your goals in sections as well.  For example, list them by Personal and Career/Business or take it a step further and list them by 1. Spirit 2. Family 3. Body 4. Career.  I just looked over my 2012 goals and it’s fun to see what has transpired!  If you’re a Pinterest fanatic, create a board of your new year’s goals.  Hmmm, I think I may have to do that myself!

Remain in harmony with God’s will and plan for your life.

Happy New Year!

A Little Love Note

Good Morning Gorgeous!

When I was a little girl, my mom did the most wonderful thing….about once a week she would put a sweet note in my lunch box or by the sink in the bathroom before I woke up.  She always wrote something encouraging and told me how much she loved me.  Right now, I can visualize her handwriting.   Those little love notes made such an impact on me.  Thanks Mama!  When I decided to start a blog, that was also my intention.   To make an impact through expressing love + encouragement and sharing ideas, tips + experiences.

Here’s a little love for your day ahead….

You are full of potential, possibility, beauty,  light,  gifts + talents.  Own the fact that you are a gloriously gorgeous child of God.  (take a beat and really think about that)

As you step out your door today–with your shoulders back and head held high– realize you are full of power not weakness!   Shed that wimpy persona.  It’s not you girlfriend!

YOU ARE WORTHY OF ALL YOUR HEART’S DESIRES!

Go for it.  Don’t hold back. Rock on with your bad self!

I Love You,

Tiff

NEW WEEK, NEW BEGINNING

Hey Style Sista’s!

How was your weekend? I was fortunate to spend a few fun girlie days with my precious mom and my love tank is full. Nothing like mother-daughter quality time, right! We did our fave things…shopping and eating Mexican food. We had some great convo’s which prompted me to share my thoughts on this video:

WHAT ARE THOUGHTS ON THIS SUBJECT?

Did it inspire you? Maybe it got you thinking about some changes you need to make? I would love to hear your thoughts.

The beauty of Sunday evenings is we have just one more sleep before the beginning of the new week. I don’t know about you, but it’s exciting to me! I encourage you this week to start making a list of projects you want to dust off and work on, dreams that seem to be dead and buried and places you want to see.  I realize this is a bit of a repeat of last week’s blog post, but I believe it is vital to a woman’s livelihood.

Make May A {{may}}zing!

Hello Precious Peacocks!

Join me in welcoming the month of May!  Woohoo!  Summer is around the corner.  I trust you all had a beautiful April.  I’ve been busy setting up the new studio, did my very first speaking engagements, took the most fabulous girls trip and started a new volunteer program teaching a small group of homeless pregnant women!  I swear, the minute I wrote that blog about getting out of your CZ (comfort zone) last month- opportunities opened up for me to take my own advice.  Funny how that works!   Getting out of your CZ awakens so many different emotions ranging from excitement to anxiety to pure bliss.  Your spirit is truly IGNITED!  Don’t get me wrong–  I have been to the point several times this month where I wanted to literally “crap my pants” and had to just face the fear, put on my imaginary Depends Underwear and GO FOR IT!   It’s very liberating and I highly recommend it!

Join me for the month of May- I challenge us all to START making the necessary tweaks to our life to make it a whole lot more AMAZING!  My dear girlfriend Julianna Geldien shared a fantastic “to-do” list of 31 positive things we can all do to IGNITE THAT SPARK and I had to pass it along to you!   Are you ready…..

  11. Start giving your ideas and dreams a chance. (you are preggars with possibilities- don’t abort your dreams before their you give them a chance to grow)
  12. Start believing that you’re ready for the next step. (just step out and go for it..even if it’s a baby step)
  13. Start entering new relationships for the right reasons.
  14. Start giving new people you meet a chance.
  15. Start learning from others and appreciating others gifts. (let go of pride + ego)

I am BEYOND excited to start shooting webisodes again and thank you for hanging in there with me during this transition!  I sense everything is going to a new level and I look forward to this next chapter with you all.  Don’t hesitate to share any topics you want to see!  I love getting ideas and feedback.

Remember, I’m all about giving you the tips to help you look good on the outside as well as “inner beauty” tips to help you feel good on the inside !  True, genuine and lasting beauty requires the dual-approach.  We can’t focus only on our outer appearance and neglect our spirit! Cheers to keeping it balanced and I have made it my mission to help you do so.

Be Your Own Biggest Cheerleader- SHOW SOME SPIRIT! Woohoo!

Hey My Fab Cheerleading Squad!

Was anyone a cheerleader growing up?  I was and one of the things I loved about it the most was the camaraderie and sisterhood among the squad.  We are all building such a great community and sisterhood here and I want to thank you all for being…Give me a Y, Give me an O, Give me a U…what’s that spell? YOU!  Ok, that sounds kind of corny, but it’s the truth.   So, today I want to remind you to affirm (and give yourself a cheer while doing a toe touch- OUCH! The thought of that hurts!) yourself the way you do your BFF!  Today- it is time to stop beating yourself up.  Ya hear me!  I am so guilty of it lately and that’s why I’m sharing this message today:

I appreciate your patience and will have the new SOS dressing room up in no time!   This recent transition my hubby and I went through is a great learning lesson to “let go” and allow yourself to grow, change, embrace the new and be OK with stepping back for a second.  It may piss some people off in your life, but hey- they’ll get over it!   It will allow you to soar to new heights!  Go for it and I will see you on the next webisode very soon!

SPEAKING OF NEW HEIGHTS:  I do have a fabulous spring shoe to share with you (thanks to my gal pal Cortney) by Nine West!  Holy Super Sexy Wedge!

Sharing the love, beauty + inspiration,

Tiff   (sisk-boom-bah)
