RED CARPET RECAP: Lots of Hits & A Big Miss, Keira

The glam squads are probably all recovering from their hairspray hangovers this morning after the 1st award show of the season, the 72nd Annual Golden Globes. Being an on camera artist as well as a fashionista, I love every single aspect of award season. Actors, directors and screenwriters are celebrated for their achievements all while sporting the latest trends by the best designers, stylists and hair & makeup artists. Last night did not disappoint! It was a night filled with magic, inspiration (and some tears), glamour and love…thanks to the Clooney’s.

As always, there were tons of red carpet hits and a few misses to make it fun.

Here are my favorites:

There were many fabulous trends from bright colors to winter whites to ethereal ball gowns to metallic and super sexy cut outs. I’m all about sparkle right now so my overall fave trend was the metallic looks above. Especially Julianne Moore’s dress with the feather mermaid bottom. So gorg! But, of course, it’s Givenchy Haute Couture!

Another look I’m obsessed with this winter is head-to-toe white. Giuliana Rancic was stunning in this white Jad Ghandour dress and matching coat. The hosts do the hard work on the red carpet and are usually outshined by the celebs, but Giuliana looked so stunning and is one of the hardest working women in Hollywood. She deserves the shout out!

I love to see women dress for their body and highlight their assets and camouflage any problems areas. Not that these women have any problems, but the ruching, cut out detail, silhouette at the bottom and neckline all work together to cinch the waist, add height and broaden the shoulders. Perfection!

J-Lo is known for plunging necklines, high slit on the leg and flawless smokey eyes. She brought it full force last night and her glam squad killed it! The beaded cape dress by Zuhair Murad had a unique art deco vibe. Totally the stand out -for me- of the night! Even her nails were amazing.

The most aspirational women of the night were Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda. I love that we are given this type of motivation at the beginning of the year! Helen turns 70 this year and Jane is 77…yes, I said 77. At almost 80, it is apparent that her working out for over 50 decades has paid off. They put the youngen’s to shame! Just sayin’.

There were a few misses last night, but the biggest disappointment of the night was Keira Knightly in Chanel. The expectant mama could have chosen something so glam and stylish to show off her bump! Keira, fire your stylist asap, sista! I love butterflies, but the purse matching the print just takes this to another level of horrible. It really looks like someone’s first attempt at sewing in Home Ec using their mom’s old drapes and grandma’s table cloth. Seriously!

I’m thrilled to wrap up my recap with one of the best statements and moments of the evening. The handsome Mr. Clooney, recipient of this year’s Cecil B. DeMille award, gave an eloquent, funny and heartfelt acceptance speech with a special shout out to his lovely bride, Amal. They were one of the most anticipated to arrive on the red carpet last night. There are mixed reviews on her white gloves, but I loved them! While most people thought he was going to let her outshine him- being her first red carpet appearance- it was nice to see her in a classic black dress arm-in-arm with her husband united as one. It made a big statement to see them both in black & white when most women would have worn a bold color for their 1st red carpet as Mrs. Clooney. Class act.

WHAT ARE YOUR RED CARPET PICKS?

Get out there and strut it this week, sista.

The world is YOUR red carpet.

Love, Tiff

  1. There were SO many beautiful gowns, so I don’t think I could pick my favorite! I am with your re: Amal and her white gloves, I LOVED THEM! I thought they were classy and brought back a vintage feel. She was beautiful and classy and both she and George just glowed.

As for poor Kiera, she is usually a fashion icon and never misses, but this dress was dowdy and I think you described it correctly when you said, “It really looks like someone’s first attempt at sewing in Home Ec using their mom’s old drapes and grandma’s table cloth.” Really poor choice. I think the vast majority of gowns were HITS!

  2. Love all of your picks good and bad.. so sad that Chanel would even use the fabric of Kiera Knightly.. i loved Kate Hudson and Amy Adams along with Viola Davis.. Jane Fonda rocked it for us over 70 ladies.. loved that.. great recap of the evening..

  3. Oh no she di’int!!! What was Keira Knightley thinking when she decided on the awkward butterfly print Channel dress as her pick for last night’s 2015 Golden Globes?!? It was such a monstrosity of a dress for such an elegant woman. It’s hard to believe Keira or Chanel would put their name on that dress. Ugh! And to top it off, Keira said it took 30 people to make it in a week. Seriously? #newstylistneeded #goldenglobes #sos
