The 1st SOS Facebook Live, Dec 5th

Since the beginning of SOS, I’ve had the vision of inviting inspirational guests to join me in the closet. I did tape a few when I lived in LA, but have not branched out to do this since moving to DFW. Here we go! Using my ladyballs and going for it. Hope you sistas can join us! Excited for you to meet my smart, sassy, gorgeous friend Lisa Cakar, founder of Perfect Poutz.

MEET ALLISON

Jewelry designer, Allison Taylor-Moseley started her company with no more than a basic knowledge of wire wrapping and $700.  She used that to purchase a small batch of gemstones, wire, and chain which she creatively turned into her debut collection that she unveiled in 2009 with marked success.  Within 6 months she was selling her collection in several Austin boutiques, at an artist’s market, outdoor festivals, & trunk shows.  In 2011, she and her husband traveled around the country for 1 year in an RV selling her jewelry and honing her craft.  She quickly grew a following of loyal customers who can’t get enough of her sparkling gemstones and shimmering textured metal.

Her inspiration comes from her obsession with timeless style.  And, with her experience as a clothing buyer, wardrobe stylist, & mother of 2, she identifies with women who want stylish, “no-brainer” pieces they can throw on with anything and look instantly put together.  Instead of an overflowing closet, she believes a small, thoughtfully curated wardrobe including pieces that you love and wear often is the secret to effortless style.  She’s created a line to satisfy that desire women have for stylish, accessible pieces that work with their entire wardrobe, but still feel luxurious and high-end.  Her mission is to help women step it up a notch, and love their jewelry collection again.

What prompted you to share your story in book form?  I felt like by sharing my story I could promote friendship in a world full of woman tearing each other down. I felt that showing truth about how fulfilling female relationships could be could transform womans lives. I felt a nudge to show the awe inspiring glory of Gods earthly angels and the power they can have in our lives to uphold us when we have no pavement below our feet. If I could help one life then the power of the written word was worth it. To encourage even one person to stand up to a doctors misdiagnosis, a doctors arrogance and bullying then my book would be worth it.

How has the writing experience helped you grow and heal even more?  The writing experience has helped me grow emotionally and spiritually. God gave me the book I always wanted to write. Writing a book had always been my life’s dream.  It may not have been the story I dreamt of writing, but it was Gods story and I had to be faithful. The writing process was also healing to a mountain of open wounds I had from the doctors that bullied me to the daunting chemo that I had to endure. My story is a powerful tale and writing it after I lived it helped me see it in a different light. A light that gave me hope and showed me my own bravery.

What’s the core message you want readers to be inspired by from your story? My core message in Walk Beside Me is about friendship. the true power of friends. Not friends who stand by you for a few days but friends who never forsake you and stand by you season after season. Its a story of friends that sustain and carry you when you cant carry yourself. It’s a story about woman never giving up on one and sacrificing so much of their own lives for that one person without any need for thanks. The only thanks these woman wanted was to glorify God.

If you could pick just one line from the book– what would it be and why? My favorite line in my book is this. “ your being, your love, your gratitude – that’ s your music. It takes place inside of you, and you are the machine that can play. There’s no other instrument like you, nowhere in the world. That’s what makes you unique.”

What’s next for you? What are you working on now?  I am working on the sequel to Walk Beside Me right now. I am about half way through and it’s so exciting. The story is very different than the first, its the after illness life. Its very dramatic and full of life so to speak, a real page turner. I am speaking Nationally on my book and on empowering woman and other topics such as bullying and how to be unstoppable. I am also doing a book tour this fall. Its all very positive and life giving. Its been very rewarding to be out in the world living after being sick and in bed for so long. I feel lucky and I feel ALIVE.

DRINK UP:Importance of Hydration [Giveaway]

Ok, ok – so I may be sounding like a broken record, but I don’t care! Well, it’s actually because I do care. Many of you are probably feeling lousy and I want you all to feel energetic and fabulous. Last year when I felt like I was living life sluggish as if I was walking through mud, my holistic doc told me I was chronically dehydrated.WHAT? I thought I was diligent with drinking water. NOT.  If I wasn’t drinking enough, there’s a good chance many of you aren’t either. Dehydration is a precursor for many diseases. Think of it as a stagnant puddle of water where fungus and bacteria thrives. YUCK. 

Why is it so important to stay hydrated?

Your body depends on water to survive. Every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to work correctly. For example, your body uses water to maintain its temperature, remove waste, and lubricate joints. Water is needed for optimal health.

How does your body lose water?

Water makes up more than half of your body weight. You lose water each day when you go to the bathroom, sweat, and even when you breathe. You lose water even faster when the weather is really hot (I got sick late August and obviously still not used to the heat of the Texas summer), when you are physically active, or if you have a fever. Vomiting and diarrhea can also lead to rapid water loss. If you don’t replace the water you lose, you can become dehydrated. [via Familydoctor.org]

To know how much water you should drink daily, just divide your body weight in half and drink that amount in ounces. For example, if you weigh 140 lbs, drink 70 ounces of water. If you are in a hot climate or working out, drink a bit more than that.  I have to drink 3-4 servings of my Camelbak water bottle. It was a challenge at first, but it becomes a healthy habit and I can tell right away if I am feeling dehydrated and haven’t had my full daily serving of water.

Tips to stay hydrated:

  • Keep a bottle of water with you during the day. Purchasing bottled water is expensive and creates plastic bottle waste. Carry a reusable water bottle instead. That’s why we’re giving one away- see details below.  I never leave home without mine!
  • If you don’t like the taste of plain water, try adding a slice of lemon or lime to your drink.
  • Be sure to drink water before, during, and after a workout.
  • When you’re feeling hungry, drink water. Thirst is often confused with hunger.  Drinking water will also contribute to a healthy weight-loss plan.
  • If you have trouble remembering to drink water, drink on a schedule. For example, drink water when you wake up; 15 minutes before meals and when you go to bed. (I always take my water bottle or a glass of water to bed) Or drink a glass of water at the beginning of each hour.

DEBUNKING DETOX: Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good

Hey 2016- you’re looking mighty sexy from here!

Who is ready to look, feel and do better than they did last year? If you answered with a loud YES with your hand waving in the air then you’re in the right spot. For the month of January, I go into a nesting and cleansing mode. It’s important to me to dedicate the first month of the year to getting prepared. I have GRAND plans for 2016 and want to clear the appropriate spaces for the GREATNESS to come.

Who needs to clear some clutter and cobwebs?

Why carry last years BS into the new year!?

I cleanse my mind by reading and journaling my thoughts on the changes I plan to make. I cleanse my body and detox. (I’m on Day 10 of no alcohol) I cleanse my house by throwing out the clutter. I cleanse my spirit by listening to powerful spiritual leaders and focusing on my connection to God. December felt like one big party so I decline invitations this month without guilt. Who else is partied out? I’m ready to get to work and I’m not just referring to job and career. Working on yourself and investing in you is the best work you can put in!

You all know I went through a major detox a few months ago. People were both interested and scratching their heads at my plan. A few people even laughed at me! I look at it as a much needed tune up! We can’t look, think, do and feel our best if our body is running on fumes and breaking down. I also wanted to understand the true meaning of a detox and found this article. Take it all with a grain of salt! Knowledge is power:

1) You’re both working moms with active young kids. What was the catalyst to starting PGF? 
We love gifts simply put.  Ewa and I alway scheme about what is fun at the time and what would be good to put together as gifts for friends and family.  Our kids have multiple birthday  parties on the weekend and we were always trying to find something other than a target toy or gift card to give.  We talked about doing this at length and then finally decided to take the plunge and here we are. 
2)So many people wish they could start their own biz, but never do..what word of advice can you give a busy mom with a dream?
DO IT!! I think you have to jump in and believe you will be successful.  The other key piece is to be flexible and open to learning and taking advice. 
3) Why PFG? Was is it about personalized items that people love so much?
I think a gift becomes more treasured with personalization, it says someone put thought into this for me.  In this world of go, go, go someone thought about me and that this gift would be loved by the individual. 
4) Many friends would love to start a business together, but it can be difficult with friends. How do you ladies keep it professional when you’re so close? 
We have respect for one another and understand that we each have strengths and we must trust in them. 
5) What inspires each of you?
I think for both us it’s our families and trying to set an example of going after your dreams but also that they understand handwork is a must for success.
