Ready, Set… GOALS!

fullsizerender-116

Hey Warrior Woman!

Can you believe we are a few days away from Christmas and 10 days from greeting 2017? I’m here to encourage and inspire you.. well, really to give you a good old fashioned kick in the butt to create a doable set of goals to ensure the coming year is a total success.  It’s such a special time of the year because we are closing one chapter and embarking on a new one. Write an amazing one, sista!

I also like to change out the word goal with “commitment” in certain areas. When you make a commitment, you alter and elevate your entire lifestyle! For example, “I commit to a healthy and fit lifestyle” and within that commitment you can make a goal like losing 10 lbs by doing spin, yoga and circuit training 4 times a week for the next two months.

LET’S DO THIS!

Think of the most important areas of your life and set goals and/or commitments for each of them along with specifics like timeframes, dates, dollar amounts and pounds. To get you started, here’s a list that I go by. Add any pertinent areas that are special to you:

  • Spiritual: Relationship with God. Do you give enough time to your spiritual life? Perhaps it’s setting a daily Divine appointment with God, a great devotional, book, Bible and journal. (I never cancel this appointment!)
  • Family: Do you want to become a parent? Pregnancy goals? Do you need to reach out to an estranged family member to heal that relationship?
  • Career: What do you wish to achieve in your career? Do you need to get a mentor in this area? Do you need to shadow someone successful in your field? Is there a class I need to take to learn more in my field?
  • Financial: Do you want to increase your yearly income? Save a certain amount? Pay off debt?
  • Physical: Do you need to get your hormones checked? Do you want to do yoga twice a week? Poor eating habits that need to be changed? Weight loss? New skincare routine?
  • Fun/ Pleasure/ Entertainment: Do you do entertaining things that make you laugh? Do you need to plan more girls nights? Have you been dreaming of a vacay to Cabo? Is there an art class you’ve been wanting to take? What’s the % of how serious and un-fun life is to how much your really enjoy life?
  • Attitude: Is there a mindset that you feel is holding you back? Are you negative Nellie? Do you come from a lack mentality or one of abundance? Are you a people pleaser?
  • Serving: Is there a charity you want to volunteer for? Could your church use your time in the nursery or leading a small group? Should I start a YouTube channel to share a message that will empower others?

Print out your goals and hang them wherever you will see them daily. Do a weekly and monthly “check in” to gauge your progress. It’s all about having a strategy for your life so you’re not wandering around aimlessly which creates low self-esteem and kills your confidence. I mean — don’t you feel like a total bada$$ when you achieve and check off a goal. Holla!

Get a special calendar (aside from your iCal) or journal for your goals. One of my favorite things to do all year is picking up my new desk calendar. I get so excited about the new people I will meet, the new opportunities, the new experiences.

Set realistic and attainable goals! You have to believe that you can achieve it. For example, if you want to be in a body building competition you wouldn’t wait to start training 3 weeks before the date. That’s totally unrealistic.

Add in a vision board and positive affirmations to help keep you focused on the outcome and end results! Visualize yourself as already achieving these goals.

See yourself 10 lbs lighter.

See yourself happy and confident.

See yourself making an impact in the lives of others.

See yourself out of debt.

See yourself finishing the painting.

See your YouTube Channel up and running.

How does that make you feel? The feeling is really what you’re going after.

Goals are vital, but also keep an open heart so you will flow and enjoy the journey more. God usually has different plans for us that we have for ourself. Always invite Him into this process! This has been one of the biggest challenges of my life because as a former control freak — going with the flow was not something I did gracefully. Trust me, God’s plans are always bigger and better than my rinky dink plans.

GOALS Vs. INTENTIONS: Who’s Ready For An Outstanding October?

Tiff_fall_walk

HELLO OCTOBER!

September went by like a blink, right? It takes the entire month to shed the Summer, switch gears and get life back on schedule. By October, we’re getting into the new groove so it’s the perfect time to set intentions and goals for the Fall.  Starting today, we have exactly 3 months of 2015 left.  //Shake your head with me//  Does that stress you out or excite you? It’s a bit of both for me. Stressed because I feel the pressure to do more, be more and accomplish more by the end of the year.  Excited because- Well, hey…I lived through another year! I’ve grown more, learned more and surrendered more. (I hope!!) Plus, Mercury went retrograde mid-September which can make things go haywire and wonky, but it’s also a beautiful time to dust off dormant dreams and projects. Let’s focus on the latter.

As an avid goal and intention setter, I love the challenge of checking things off the list and feeling that sense of accomplishment. But, it’s also important to give ourselves some grace if everything doesn’t get checked off. If you have been part of SOS for a while, you know that I love setting goals and/or resolutions and intentions on the 1st of each month and not just at the new year. This gives me a chance to refocus every month by setting smaller monthly goals to help achieve the bigger yearly goals. Make sense? It’s like taking smaller bites you can digest instead of one big chunk that you end up spitting out because you can’t chew it.

What’s the difference between setting intentions and setting goals?

An intention is something deeply personal for how you want to be, live, and show up in the world.  It’s a practice and a consistent aspiration to guide you toward balance in your life. To find peace in my heart.  To forgive and let love in.  To treat myself with more respect. To surrender and live fully in the present moment. To release anger instead of holding on to it.  By getting quiet and away from any distractions (kids, phone, computer, television) we are able to focus our mind on what our soul is needing most…RIGHT NOW.  You cannot do this wrong, but an intention is what comes to you in the present moment as opposed to a goal which is typically something we wish to achieve in the future. An intention could be in the form of a quote, a dedication, a prayer. I set my intentions while I’m praying because it’s important to me that I invite God into this practice and view it as being a co-creator of my plans/dreams/growth with Him. Bottom line- I need His help big time!

Also, because I am easily distracted (even if I’m sitting quietly away from distractions- because my mind is always cranking) I like to write out my monthly intentions and goals in my journal. Life is overall so distracting and as I get older and more forgetful, it’s vital for me to write things down! I keep it simple and place them in categories like personal development/spirit, helping others, career, relationships and health. To give you an idea, here’s an excerpt from my journal today:

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT/SPIRIT:

GOAL: Keep reading “The Identity Bond: A Guide To Self-Awareness” by Dr. Melanie Mills  and attend her workshop. (I just paid for my spot at the workshop so that is one step closer to achieving that goal!)

INTENTION: To accept myself more fully. (I’ve been hard on myself lately for wanting to withdraw and cocoon. Why do we always try to change our true nature to please others and make ourself miserable? My introverted side needs this time away to refuel, but I fear disappointing others. I am learning more about this from Dr. Mel.)

Here are some thoughts to help you get started in creating an intention:

  • What matters most to you?
  • What would you like to build, create, or nurture in your life?
  • What would you like to let go of?
  • Who would you like to forgive in your life?
  • How do you feel when you are your happiest self?
  • What makes you proud?
  • What word(s) would you like to align yourself with?
  • What fears would you like to release?
  • What are you grateful for?

10 Intention Examples:

  1. Find balance
  2. Open your mind and heart
  3. Focus on peace
  4. Stay calm and steady
  5. Act with courage
  6. Embrace change
  7. Practice forgiveness
  8. Allow yourself to be vulnerable
  9. Connect with others
  10. Love Unconditionally

If you find if difficult to get started, use one of these if it resonates with you, but try to create something more personal for yourself. I would love to hear your thoughts on this! Like, comment and share if you found it inspiring.  I appreciate it!

HELLO AUGUST: Make Your Dreams Happen

Hello_August

This summer is flying by and as we say hello to August, I want to remind you to set your mind and your intentions back on to your dreams. You’ve spent time making beautiful summer memories for your children and focused on fun and family. Now, I encourage you to dust off those dreams you put on the back burner. It’s not about being selfish, but about being the best you can be and living the life you dream of!

Here is a list that will help you get focused! This is a list I live by + practice:

  1. Wake up each day in gratitude.
  2. Say your affirmations daily.
  3. Devote time every morning to prayer + connecting with God.
  4. Journal + write down your dreams, goals + intentions.
  5. Create a vision board or vision book.
  6. Practice positivity + see the bright side of every situation.
  7. Be generous + giving. (stingy blocks your blessings + keeps you in lack)
  8. Get quiet + listen to your inner voice.
  9. Compliment others instead of competing with them.
  10. Let go of fear + be a risk taker.
  11. Be conscious of the beauty + miracles around you everyday.
  12. Embrace change when you feel stagnant.
  13. Shut up the self-defeating inner dialog.
  14. Do things that inspire you + ignite your passion.
  15. Be purpose + mission-driven. (stop wavering)
  16. Stop numbing yourself with food, shopping, alcohol, internet, etc.
  17. Encourage yourself instead of constantly discouraging.
  18. Trust in God’s Greater Plan for you.
  19. Do things that scare you. (this builds confidence)

How to Start 2015 with More Confidence by Guest Blogger Tina Hamilton

ConfidentWoman

There are a lot of excitements and pressures that women feel at the beginning of a new year. Every woman feels the need to instantly dump bad habits, make a lot of New Year’s Resolutions and suddenly be a different person once that clock strives twelve. Of course, this is just not realistic. Goal setting is a great idea to help any woman achieve her dreams, but no one can change completely overnight.

One of the most important traits that any woman needs in order to set realistic goals and achieve those goals is confidence. So many women struggle with not feeling like they are important or capable of achieving greater things, but this is not true! Every woman should create the power within herself to make 2015 her best year yet.

Here are some tips to help you gain more confidence in 2015:

Start with positive self-talk

Every woman is guilty of it from time to time. Putting oneself down and saying negative things is simply not productive. Every woman should focus instead on building herself up, not tearing down with negative self-talk. This can be a difficult process for a lot of women, but it is something that everyone should be working on constantly in order to become the best version of themselves.

Create a comfortable and expressive style

It may sound silly, but dressing cute actually does help a woman’s self-esteem. More importantly, the saying ‘dress the part’ still holds true. If a woman wants to be more confident to impress a man, get a promotion at work, or for any other reason, she should dress appropriately to help get to that goal. Women should forget about following trends and wear things that make them feel beautiful and comfortable, investing in t-shirt bra styles and well-fitting items that will last a lifetime.

Move every day

Exercise is an important aspect of staying healthy and happy. People who get regular exercise are not only happier with their lives, but they are also more confident and outgoing. Everyone should make a point to get up and move every single day. This can range from a ten minute walk around the block to a 2 hour sweaty yoga session.

Find a teammate

Women often feel like they have to do everything on their own, and there is no one out there who would be willing to help them even if they asked. This is an unfortunate misunderstanding. Every woman can and should work to find a teammate or partner who can help them feel better about themselves and achieve their goals this year. This can range from a life coach to a good friend.

Try something new

It sounds a little ironic, but it is true that one of the best ways to feel more confident is to do something that one is not confident doing! By getting outside of their comfort zone and trying new things, women can empower themselves and gain the confidence they need to take on any new challenge 2015 has to offer.

2015: Your Best Year Yet

IMG_5215

2014 will soon be in our dust and I hope you took some time over the past few weeks to reflect on the year and start getting mentally & spiritually prepared for 2015.

Preparation is key:

Choose a day when you have a few quiet hours alone.

Light a candle.

Play some inspirational music.

Quiet your mind.

Invite God into the space with you.

Pray for guidance.

Get a fancy new journal.

Ask yourself a few questions:

  1. What did you accomplish?  List the Top 5.
  2. What milestones were hit to make the year memorable? Special anniversary or birthday? Promotion?
  3. Did you put your personal growth as a priority?
  4. Were you filled with purpose or did you veer off your path?
  5. Did you enjoy your relationships or was there more drama/strife?
  6. Can you say- honestly– that you are proud of yourself?

Instead of beginning with the typical list of goals or resolutions, I suggest you start this year’s plan differently. Make sure to acknowledge yourself what you have accomplished and done right. Take special notice of breakthroughs and what you have overcome. Celebrating yourself- instead of beginning the new year in disappointment and desperation- -sets the tone for the year in a positive, productive and purposeful way!

In order to keep growing and moving toward our destiny it is vital to evaluate the things that need to change. Do you find yourself daydreaming about an authentic and full life instead of putting the action toward it? A major part of my purpose is to instigate change in you. This is why I continue to keep intention & goal setting along with vision boards on the forefront on your mind. I know it may sound redundant, but I keep mentioning the importance of it all because these tools have worked in my own life.

Life gets so crazy at times which easily derails us from our goals and if it’s left unmanaged- we end the year without manifesting what we want. Ouch! Give yourself the time to create your plan, set goals with a timeline, be specific. Get prepared and then go rock it! Ask a likeminded confidant to join you and meet on a regular basis for accountability. Taking it a step further and creating a mastermind group is even more powerful!

If you haven’t downloaded my complimentary affirmations ebook yet, I encourage you to use it as a tool in helping getting your thoughts going in the right direction.

GET READY TO RECEIVE IN 2014

receive-emily-tepper

My Sweet Sistas!

On this final day of 2013, I encourage you to take some time to close your eyes and give thanks for last year. Give thanks for the blessings as well as the hardships because ultimately the tough times turn to blessings. SAY WHAT TIFF? Yes, the tough times become blessings in the form of lessons learned, wisdom and strength! We do not gain strength and wisdom when everything is easy breezy. Also, take the time to get alone and write out your 2014 intentions, goals, resolutions and COMMITMENTS. Most people putter out and give up on their resolutions by the end of January so I prefer to think of them in terms of commitments and intentions. We make commitments to our loved ones nearly everyday and feel awful when we don’t keep them. Being committed equals being dedicated, faithful, devoted and loyal.

WHAT COMMITMENTS DO YOU NEED TO MAKE TO YOURSELF IN 2014?

Go beyond the simple goal setting of “I want to workout more” and set to goal/intention with details like “I will workout for 45 minutes, 4 times a week”. Make your goals doable so you stay motivated. Take the time to really think about how you want 2014 to look. Do you want to lose weight, have more confidence, build deeper friendships with people, land new clients for your business? Recently, I read this about goal setting and loved it:

CONCEIVE>BELIEVE>ACHIEVE>RECEIVE!!!

Focus on the outcome of you fulfilling your goals. See the end result and RECEIVE the weight loss, RECEIVE more confidence, RECEIVE deeper friendships, RECEIVE more clients!

I would love to hear what your 2013 highlight was!

PLEASE MAKE A COMMENT + SHARE.

Obviously, my personal highlight was moving to Texas, but the highlight of SOS was leading my first live workshop in Vegas for the Rising Phoenix Charitable Foundation’s Annual Gala which raises funds for our friend Sam Childer’s (aka The Machinegun Preacher) and Angels Of East Africa as well as The Shade Tree Women’s Shelter. I’m looking forward to working with more women in person and putting on several workshops in 2014.

That’s one of my big new year commitments!

1551722_10151843403758372_969553304_n

I pray over this community and for each of you to have a blessed year full of health, happiness, beauty, style and commitments + goals received!

Celebrate Every Tiny Success {SUNDAY AFFIRMATIONS}

HAPPY SUNDAY SISTAS!

celebrate-small-success1

Today is the halfway mark of Dec. Can you believe it? We have 2 more weeks of 2013 and yesterday, I found myself heading down that slippery slope of negative thinking about a few goals I didn’t quite complete this year. When my mind begins heading in the gutter like this- I know it is a signal to check in with myself, get quiet, plug into my Spiritual practice and get refocused on God’s Plan for my life. It’s also productive to read back over your journal to see how far you’ve come.  Instead of dwelling on the marks I missed, I began celebrating the marks I hit and hit right in the bullseye! Woop! But, our mind plays tricks on us and we so easily dwell on our shortcomings. If you have been beating yourself up about not fulfilling certain 2013 goals- STOP TODAY!

Start focusing on your triumphs and it will reignite your confidence!

Perhaps you didn’t lose the last 10 pounds of your 30 pound weightloss goal, BUT you paid off that credit card finally. Woop Woop!  Celebrate your financial freedom and simply set the 10 pound weightloss goal. Evaluate WHY you didn’t lose those 10 pounds and make adjustments. Did you start slacking with your workout program? Maybe you stopped drinking enough water and started reaching for the sodas again? It is a new day and soon it will be a New Year! Reset the goals you missed and let go of the guilt or shame associated with it!

This week I will….

  1. Tune out the holiday distractions + get quiet.
  2. Replay the goals I hit in 2013.
  3. Reset -with enthusiasm- any goals I missed.
  4. Stop beating myself up + show myself some love.
  5. Refuse to allow my mind to slide into the gutter.
  6. Celebrate every success no matter how small.
  7. Give myself a clean slate.
  8. Pray for God’s Will + Purpose to be revealed in my life.
  9. Let go of the guilt + shame.
  10. Make adjustments that are realistic + doable.
  11. Hold my head up high + MAKE MYSELF PROUD!

What 3 affirmations really resonated with you?

Always love hearing your thoughts.

Please like, + share this post with your friends if you think they need the inspiration!

Have a Fabulous Final Few Weeks of 2013.

Love, Tiff
