SHAKE IT BABY!

Hey Healthy Hotties,

Skydive_Drink_Chia_4

I am over the moon to introduce you ladies to our latest and greatest blog sponsor….DRINK CHIA!  You may remember they participated in our Summer Swag Bag Giveaways last year.  I have had the pleasure of getting to know the company and one of it’s founders, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Gideon J. Lewis (the handsome adventure seeker with the million dollar smile holding the bottle).  Gideon and the company are on a mission “to inspire people to be engaged in their health, try new things, seek adventure, and be active in their communities.” LOVE THAT!  I am very proud to share ‘internet real estate’ with this company and promote them.

Have you been noticing chia seeds everywhere lately?  Kale took over in 2012 and this year it’s all about the chia seed!  We have been incorporating flax seeds and flax seed oil into our diet for some time now, but chia seeds do not go rancid the way flax seeds do and contain a higher level of Omega 3’s.   From hydration to brain function, the list of benefits from chia seeds are endless and I encourage you all to add them to your diet.  They also help maintain healthy weight because of the high fiber content.  One of the easiest and fastest ways to add chia seeds to your diet is by drinking them.  When the chia seed is wet it forms a gelatinous substance that takes longer to digest.  You stay fuller longer which prevents overeating.

In case you are wondering, yes– chia seeds are the same seed from the famed Chia Pets popularized in the 80’s!  Can you hear the song in your head? Cha-Cha-Cha Chia!

Check out the health benefits via http://www.drinkchianow.com:

Hydration
Chia seeds have amazing absorptive properties.  In fact, those tiny seeds can absorb 9 to 12 times their weight in water.  When you consume them, your body is getting prolonged hydration and retaining important electrolytes.

Endurance
Our chia seeds pretty much come straight from the farm and into your bottle of Drink Chia!  Because they are a whole, unprocessed food, our bodies break down these little chia dynamos slowly, balancing our blood sugar levels and giving us endurance for the long haul.

Healthy Heart
Chia seeds not only contain natural antioxidants, but they also hold the highest known concentration of plant-based Omega-3 essential fatty acids, which studies show are important to the health of our hearts and other vital organs.

Brain Power
As they are for the heart, Omega-3 fatty acids are important to brain health and function.  Studies suggest they can improve nerve function and alleviate symptoms associated with a number of conditions, such as OCD and ADHD.

I down a Drink Chia! before every workout now and have seen a huge difference in my endurance on  powerwalks, hikes and in my yoga classes.  The flavors are amazing and my favorite is the Honeysuckle Pear.  YUM!

CHILLAX: Stress Management

Hey Junebugs!

Question- What’s your stress level on a regular basis?  You are probably wondering, “Tiff, what does that have to do with beauty, style or inspiration?”…well, it has a lot to do with how healthy, vibrant, aware, sharp, peaceful and powerful you feel.  Constant stress is carried on your face and will dull your light not to mention over time it can cause serious dis-ease in your body. So let’s discuss this because I am personally “checking myself” and my own stress levels more than normal lately and I find everywhere I turn people are just out-of-their-mind STRESSED OUT!  This is no way to live ladies. LIFE IS SHORT!

I’m about to keep it very real here…

I use to live stressed out all the time with high anxiety because I had not healed through my past and like many people I numbed myself with drugs and alcohol to begin with. Then a friend convinced me to see a doctor and of course, they put me on anti-depressants, anti-anxiety pills and ambien to sleep because I would be so amped up for the other pills.  WHEW! It’s a vicious cycle with this stuff and I couldn’t function long on all these RX’s.  For me, the only thing that worked to calm the nerves was to red flag my stressors and begin a serious spiritual practice of prayer and journaling plus there’s nothing like a good old fashioned long walk to clear your head. Learning to manage your stress will change your life and the lives of those around you!  It really effects every area of our lives:

  • Sleep Difficulties
  • Loss of Appetite or Over-eating
  • Lack of Concentration
  • Sloppy performance on the job
  • Anti-social Behavior
  • Abusing Alcohol or Drugs
  • Nervous Habits
  • Short Temper
  • Poor Memory

Does that sound about right? Make it a priority to check in with yourself on a regular basis and deal with the stress so it doesn’t grow into an unmanageable beast.

Here’s 20 tips I have found to help:

  1. Do not keep things bottled up! Talk to someone you trust to help you work through it.
  2. Spend time daily doing an activity you love. (I hike or powerwalk)
  3. Improve your diet! Eating vitamin rich foods and avoiding junk with preservatives will keep your nervous system functioning properly. Add a B complex supplement too!
  4. Simplify! This is so important but very difficult for “busy bodies”. Stop taking on too many activities at once. You know the popular saying, “my plate is so full”. Well, change that!
  5. Stop rushing! When you feel panicked or rushed, STOP- sit quietly, take a deep breath and regain your composure.
  6. Keep a zen-like peaceful environment at work and at home.
  7. Be present! Don’t put too much thought into the future or the past. Enjoy the NOW!
  8. Avoid unrealistic expectations on yourself and others! Whew- this will alleviate a ton of stress.
  9. Get enough sleep!
  10. Exercise  more! It produces “feel good” chemicals.
  11. Take note of your moods! Ladies, we have those pesky hormones to deal with so be aware of how you’re feeling emotionally and cut yourself a break when you need to.
  12. Explore relaxation methods: Yoga, walking, journaling, listening to soothing music, hiking, etc.
  13. Express yourself! If you feel sad, allow yourself a good cry. If you’re angry, express it constructively. (Breaking plates not allowed)
  14. Love people and use things! Not the other way around. Walking in love is a huge stress reducer. Drop the ego.
  15. Take a techno break! Unplug the phone, stay off the computer, don’t watch TV. Often these things bring major stress into our life and we don’t even realize it.
  16. Learn the power of saying “NO”.  This brings tons of stress on many woman. Being a ‘people pleaser’ will ultimately stress you out and build resentment!
  17. Do not use crutches! Food, cigarettes, drugs or alcohol will also ultimately add to your stress instead of the temporary relief of it.
  18. Avoid boredom! Period.
  19. Surround yourself with positive peeps!  Stress and negativity are contagious so hang out with positive, uplifting friends.
  20. Get in touch with the little kid inside you on a regular basis!  Try to have more fun and find things that give you a good belly laugh every once in a while.

Most important thing of all – GRACE!  It gives you the strength and power to get done what you need to even when you think you can’t. Tap into it.

Let’s not be one of those women who constantly whines and complains about how stressed out she is.  You know that gal!  They talk about it all the time, but do nothing to change it.  Make it a priority.  Make your peace + joy a priority.  I promise it will keep away the lines between your eyes and help you to shine your light as you should, my sista!

Be Your Own Biggest Cheerleader- SHOW SOME SPIRIT! Woohoo!

Hey My Fab Cheerleading Squad!

Was anyone a cheerleader growing up?  I was and one of the things I loved about it the most was the camaraderie and sisterhood among the squad.  We are all building such a great community and sisterhood here and I want to thank you all for being…Give me a Y, Give me an O, Give me a U…what’s that spell? YOU!  Ok, that sounds kind of corny, but it’s the truth.   So, today I want to remind you to affirm (and give yourself a cheer while doing a toe touch- OUCH! The thought of that hurts!) yourself the way you do your BFF!  Today- it is time to stop beating yourself up.  Ya hear me!  I am so guilty of it lately and that’s why I’m sharing this message today:

I appreciate your patience and will have the new SOS dressing room up in no time!   This recent transition my hubby and I went through is a great learning lesson to “let go” and allow yourself to grow, change, embrace the new and be OK with stepping back for a second.  It may piss some people off in your life, but hey- they’ll get over it!   It will allow you to soar to new heights!  Go for it and I will see you on the next webisode very soon!

SPEAKING OF NEW HEIGHTS:  I do have a fabulous spring shoe to share with you (thanks to my gal pal Cortney) by Nine West!  Holy Super Sexy Wedge!

Sharing the love, beauty + inspiration,

Travel + Packing Tips for the Fashionista

Hey Snow Bunnies!

Anyone hit the slopes this season yet?  I’m heading to Aspen for a MUCH needed vacay with my hubs and my BFF and her hubs!  As I started the chaotic challenge to pack and get organized as to avoid being charged $100 in extra baggage fees- I decided last minute to record it all on the Flip camera.   HELP HELP!  I’m a chronic over-packer, but I’m working on it!   With everything in life, it’s a work-in-progress so I tried to share as many packing and travel tips as I could.  I’m sure there’s some things I left out!  Hope you get a few things out of this that will be useful!    Here goes…

WATCH WEBISODE:

One of my favorite packing tips (which I forgot to mention in the webisode) is using GALLON SIZE ZIPLOC BAGS for anything from packing extra toiletries, socks, underwear, shoes, etc.  I keep a box of them in my closet for emergencies!  (Ok, so it may look and sound a bit “WT” but they really are my little lifesavers)

Don’t forget- a wise investment to add to your wardrobe is an over-sized Louis Vuitton handbag or tote.  This is my fave travel purse because it’s so light before you put anything in it plus it’s super sturdy!

FUN GIVEAWAY!  Upload of photo on the SOS Facebook page of you looking cute on the slopes.  One winner will be chosen to receive a fun surprise!  Ends Sunday, Feb 5 (Superbowl Sunday).  Winner will be announced on Monday, the 6th!

Read this slowly and allow it to sink in…

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.” -Unknown

A LIL ONE-ON-ONE WITH TIFF…

If you have been watching my webisodes and reading my blog for a while now, you probably have a good idea what I’m all about, right!?  There’s still a few things I haven’t shared publicly YET and over time I will be more open and transparent.  There’s a time and place for everything!   I’m actually going to write a book!

In Part 2 of my hike up Runyon Canyon, I take a moment to say a few positive affirmations and give thanks for all of you and this mission through Sanctuary Of Style.

||UPDATES||

I recently experienced first hand the truth of Oprah’s saying, “Success come when Preparation meets Opportunity”.    I was booked as the host, image coach, mentor and counsler to young women needing a serious life change!    This role was custom-made for me.   So grateful for the experience!   Unfortunately, I can’t give too many details, but let’s just say- this is a show we’ll all love to watch.

(Here’s a pic of me giving the ladies a few etiquette and dating tips)

You have heard me rave about Entrepreneur Mentor for Women, Ali Brown.  I have been diving into her telecourses and learning so much- not only about business, but personal growth!   Even coaches need to be coached!   She’s a fellow Lioness and on the day I wrapped my show, she invited me to her personal birthday party with a handful of powerful entrepreneur ladies.  It was the perfect way to wrap a perfect experience!   If you are interested in taking your business to the next level, I highly recommend checking out her teaching products at www.alibrown.com.   I am planning to attend her exciting 3 day conference called SHINE in Dallas on Nov 2-4th.  I hear it’s life-changing!   I know many of you are in Dallas so check into it at this link: SHINE 2011 INFO.   Could be fun to catch up there!

I want to give a special SHOUT OUT to the extraordinary ladies who were so generous with their participation on the July Swag Bag Giveaway, Carla Masley and Shelley Goodstein. You gals rock!

Last thing, if you are planning to clean out your closets this summer to make room for fall- please consider donating your gently used items to DIVA’S CLOSET!

QUICK HEALTH TIP:

EAT MORE KALE-  I have had a few Wonder Women Girlfriends (meaning they have superhuman energy) tell me they drank kale smoothies…Hmm, I just add super green powder to mine and thought that was good enoughg.  I was curious and googled the benefits of raw kale then went to Whole Foods and bought a bunch!  It’s always better to use a whole food so I’ll save the super greens for when I’m out of the real deal!  I have been adding kale to my morning smoothies for the past week and feel amazing!  Gotta read these benefits…… READ MORE

We have some exciting things coming up in July too!   Do you have a webisode topic you would like to see?   Please let me know!

“Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn. The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and prejudices and the acceptance of love back in our hearts. Love is the essential reality and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.”  — Marianne Williamson

Spread your beautiful wings and fly high this week….here’s to BLUE SKIES AHEAD!  xoTiff
