LADYBOSSES USING THEIR LADYBALLS! #MondayMotivation

Top with bodice similar H&M / Faux Leather Pants H&M / Patent Leather Heels DSW

There is nothing that lights me up more than seeing women step out of their comfort zone and use their ladyballs!  This past weekend I hosted another ladyboss only on-camera workshop and am still on a happy high. Like every woman, each of the beauties in the photo above has an amazing story and I was honored to experience their vulnerability, heart, humor, wisdom, gifts and talents.

Doing something that scares you is what the true definition of courage is. When you push past the fear and do it anyway, you expand yourself and your abilities. When we shrink back, we stay small. Period.  After coaching and hosting workshops since moving to Dallas, I see women revert to their small stance of shoulders rolled forward and hands clenched in front of them. I teach my clients to strike a power pose before any event, speaking engagement or on-camera appearance. Women transform right before my eyes with this exercise!

My challenge and motivation for this week is to be aware of situations that make you want to shrink. Stop, acknowledge it and immediately change up your physicality by doing the Wonder Woman pose and saying positive affirmations over yourself.  (I get it.. some of you just can’t seem to wrap your brain around affirmations or think it’s silly, but I promise you- the way you speak to yourself is crucial. I would NOT be where I am today without power words and affirmations!!) Just try it. What could it hurt.

POWER POSE:

  • Take a long deep breath.
  • Get grounded and create a wide stance with your legs.
  • Pull your shoulders back.
  • Hands on hips.
  • Smile.

Affirm to yourself that you are capable, strong and courageous. Get a powerful list of “I Am’s”. I am a Warrior Princess! (Who was that.. Zena?)  I am a badass! I am intelligent, talented and beautiful! I am a world changer! I am ________________!  Leave a comment and fill in the blank.

For some of my clients,  doing something fun like flipping their hair, dancing, doing jumping jacks helps them. Whatever it is to shake it up to get out of your head!

Special shout out + thanks to the fabulous Whitney Kutch (stunning blonde making the peace sign) for her help in making this day a total success. Whit- I appreciate your crazy beautiful self, your generous heart to serve and uplift everyone around you! Love you!

Grab that imaginary cape and go slay this week.

BE FAB FRIDAY: 4 Fashion Rules the Media Doesn’t Tell You By Guest Blogger Tina Hamilton

Fashion Rules the Media Doesn't Tell You

Image Courtesy of Cosmopolitan

It starts at a very young age for most of us with your mother telling you that you can’t go to school in your ballerina tutu. It continues when you hit middle school and your friends tell you that braces are dorky and weird. The issue furthers in high school when you are told that you need to look like all your favorite celebrities or you won’t be popular. Just when you think it would get better, it only gets worse as you reach your twenties and thirties when you are supposed to maintain a perfect look, the ideal corporate job and a stable relationship. We don’t even need to talk about the brutal scrutiny that women over the age of 40 are under!

Women are constantly given rules by our peers and the media telling us how to look. These standards seem impossible to maintain, and for many of us, they are simply unrealistic. We all have different bodies, different needs from our style and different tastes that do not always fit into the mold that the media creates.

Instead, we should create our own set of rules, rules that focus on the true meaning of style; to make every woman feel beautiful and confident every single day. Here are the fashion rules that the media doesn’t tell you, and why you should ditch everything else and follow them instead.

1. The garment should work for you, not the other way around

Every piece of clothing and every accessory should work only to enhance you and your beauty. You should never feel the need to squeeze into a tight pair of jeans in order to look skinnier if you are not comfortable doing so. Instead, take those jeans in the next size up. You will feel better and look better in clothes that fit you properly.

2. You should never cast out a style because of your size

Many girls are told they cannot wear certain styles and trends because of their body. For example, girls who are small on top are told they cannot wear sheath dresses. These ideas should be cast out for every woman, you need to try the look on yourself and find the right fit before you determine that the look works well for you or not.

3. Never buy anything before trying it on

Some big changes have been made in the world of online shopping, so the need to spend hours in a department store dressing room is no longer necessary. Most online stores offer free returns and exchanges and free shipping, so you can get the same items at lower prices without leaving the house. You can even buy bras online with new bra sizing apps that ensure that you will get the best fit possible.

4. You can wear trendy looks at any age

Celebrities today have proven that age does not need to determine your style anymore. You can still pull of trendy looks no matter what your age is. Look to celebrities like Jennifer Aniston and Stacy London for trendy looks that are still age appropriate so you can maintain your fashion forward style.

Stay Chic & Stylish Through Winter {New Webisode}

Hey Fab Ones!

At this point- with all this bizarro freezing weather- you’re probably bored and uninspired by your winter wardrobe. Am I right? I’ve had to dig deep myself and get more creative since I am actually experiencing winter for the first time in 15 years and having to wear coats/gloves/heavier sweaters! I actually wished I had ear muffs today because I didn’t realize it’s not a smart idea to wear my hair in a topknot while out running errands in 32 degree weather. Brrrrrr!

It’s so easy to slip into that schleppy state of being during winter- heck, I don’t even want to shave my legs (poor Aaron), but let’s just say NO to schlepping. I’m excited to kick off the first webisode of the year sharing my 14 tips for staying chic all the way through to Spring.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVE?

_______________________

Ladies, I want to remind you to really take care of yourselves right now. Especially since the kids just went back to school and you’ll be exposed to more germs that they will bring home.  Right before we moved I got so sick with a very high fever, congestion and a cough that I fought for 6 weeks and then relapsed before Christmas and just had to do a 10 day cycle of amoxicillin.

Please keep your feet warm, take extra Vitamin C, keep antibacterial hand sanitizer in your purse, stay hydrated and drink lots of hot tea with honey and lemon to keep your throat and chest lubricated while breathing the indoor heaters then the blast of cold air outdoors.

I am a super healthy gal and had never been sick for so long. Not sure how I made it through the big move and attending so many holiday events- guess I was running on adrenaline and my body never healed so I relapsed hard.  Don’t let this happen to you! PLEASE sleep well and take EXTRA care of yourself.  A low stress lifestyle will keep your immune system strong!

Cheers to being healthy + fabulous in January!

Modernize Your Business Attire: Top (3) Tips to Close More Deals! By Personal Stylist, Style Expert & TV Host Laurie Graham

Hi Fashionable Friends,

If you’ve been following the blog for a while, you know SOS is all about giving you the tools to walk tall with confidence and shine your brightest.  I consistently strive to bring the latest + greatest tips, words of wisdom and inspiration to this community so I’m thrilled to introduce you to my dear friend and fellow fashion maven, LAURIE GRAHAM.  One of the many things that set Laurie apart in her field is her insight to identifying each client’s personality. She styles each individual by incorporating trends into their wardrobe, rather than trying to make their whole look too trendy.  Laurie is a true confidence-builder and her contagious, positive energy instantly makes you feel better when you are in her presence. She’s smart, sassy, stunning, super funny and an inspiration to all women– well of course, she’s a Texas girl!

Meet the Fab LG….

Laurie Graham 053T

It’s Monday morning & you find yourself staring blankly into your closet trying to decide what to wear to work … (in 5 minutes or less!)  Your closet is shoved full of clothes, yet you still suffer from the “I have nothing to wear” syndrome.  Since you have an important meeting today, you decide on something all black.  It’s classic & that’s what your first boss told you to wear to look “professional” in front of clients, right?  WRONG!

I’ve been feverishly updating the images of hard working business professional clients for the past 8 years.  I’ve styled hundreds of private clients ranging from school teachers to real estate agents to the CEO’s of major corporations.  Consistently, the biggest mistake that I see women make in their professional attire is playing it too safe in an effort to be taken seriously in the work place.  Even in the most conservative of jobs, there is no reason to dress like an androgynous man just to feel like you fit in with the boy’s club.   Thankfully, having great style and dressing business appropriately are no longer mutually exclusive.

Your image is a big part of your brand.  It’s the first impression you make in front of a potential employer or a prospective client.  Stand in your power as a woman & make it as easy as possible for someone to tell you “YES!”  Remember the saying, “dress, act & talk like the person you want to become?”  Rather than wearing something boring & forgettable, start making purchases that attract positive attention.  People want to associate themselves with someone who shines their light brightly and can own a room.  A pop of color, some modern style and impeccable fit are your secret weapons to standing out from your competition. If you aren’t getting at least 10 compliments on your wardrobe every single day, you aren’t maximizing your strongest calling card … YOU!  No matter what dress size, age group or income level you are, there are affordable and stylish outfit options to flatter your figure and respect your wallet.  And for the record, the best way to fit in the boy’s club is by being the most confident and powerful WOMAN in the office!

Here are my Top (3) Wardrobe Tips to Close More Deals:

1.)Embrace Your Femininity

Want to make a lasting first impression?  Wear a dress.  Period.  Take our First Lady’s Hilary Clinton & Michelle Obama as examples … Yes, Hilary Clinton is a smart, career driven woman working in a male dominated industry.  But, her affinity for wearing box cut pant suits is utterly forgettable. And her lack of updated, feminine attire has opened her up for much criticism.  Look at the difference we saw when Michelle Obama came on the scene … because she embraced dresses and cheerful colors, suddenly Vogue magazine labeled her “The First Lady of Style!” Do you see the difference of immediately capturing positive attention? Decades later we are still talking about the impeccable images of Jacqueline Kennedy & Nancy Reagan who always rocked the color red.  All smart, motivated women but those ladies are revered as a triple threat of beauty, brains & heart.  Shine your feminine light & never apologize for being beautiful!

2.)Choose Soft, Flowy Fabrics

The first thing to replace in your closet are every pair of stiff & structured pants, blazers and man-ish dress shirts. Inject a shot of modern style by choosing pants with a soft fabric that drape down your leg and blouses that are flowy like silk or sheer chiffon worn with a cami.  Structured pants (like Chino style khaki’s) flatten your buns & cup your thighs, whereas a silk blend pant will slide right off your keister giving you the buns of a 12-year old gymnast! And, by all means your blouses should embody a soft, flowy style with tapering and feminine detail.  Check out this example of a fierce, feminine pants look!

3.)Focus on Fit

There is a big difference between wearing clothes that are too tight or too boxy versus wearing clothes that just graze your body and flatter your shape! The fit of your clothing is the #1 most important aspect to pulling off a sophisticated & modern image.  Through fashion, we have the ability to choose the proper clothing that gives the ILLUSION of having a smaller waist, longer legs and flatter tummy. Embrace alterations when necessary and get familiar with your proportions so that you know what cuts and hemlines best flatter your specific body type.

NMT65B9_mx

There is no better feeling than walking into a board room, packed stage or networking event looking & feeling your best!  Grab the attention of your colleagues, clients & superiors by taking pride in your appearance.  Once you know all eyes are on you, then you can easily seal the deal with your experience, articulate knowledge and follow through skills.  As Nancy Reagan says, “I think a woman gets more if she acts feminine.” Go claim “more” from your life!  You deserve it and you’re worth it.

WHAT MESSAGE ARE YOU TELLING THE WORLD?

Tiff_vlogger

{My new favorite distressed jeans by Rich & Skinny}

Hello Summer Baby!

As I’ve shared before, I have gone through several periods in my life where I battled low self-esteem, poor body image and overall crappy confidence.  I know how it feels to look in the mirror and not like that reflection staring back at you. It effects every aspect of your life.  The message I was telling the world was that I was an unhappy girl and didn’t think I was worth it. Our image, body language and the look in our eye speaks volumes to the world before we ever open our mouth. The first recollection was at about 12 or 13 and people would say, “Oh you’re so pretty you should smile more”.   Hmmm- okay, but I had the ugliest crooked teeth and ended up wearing braces for 4 long years!  I also had skinny knock-kneed legs and to top it off I had a permed mullet in junior high.  *LAUGH OUT LOUD EVERYBODY*  The journey to loving myself and being confident in the fact that I am a child of God has been a long one and I believe my new message to the world speaks of grace, joy, self-worth, self-love and overall confidence. At least that’s what I intend to project even when I’m having “one of those days”. Thank you for joining me on the journey here through SOS.

MY QUESTION FOR YOU TODAY IS…..

WHAT MESSAGE ARE YOU TELLING THE WORLD?

A few days ago, a production company asked me to put myself on tape telling why I started blogging and doing videos.  I never really considered myself a blogger until the term “vlogger” was coined.  A vlogger is a video blogger, in case you weren’t sure.  Just like a blogger shares their experiences, knowledge, life lessons and tips, a vlogger does the same, but just speaks it on video or webcam.  Since my background is in television and working as an on-camera personality– this was a no brainer for me when I realized my true passion was to help women.  Check it out….

IS IT A DRESS? IS IT A TOP? {New Style Webisode)

NO….IT’S A TUNIC!

Tunic_swimsuit

A viewer recently asked for ways to style a tunic so I decided to make this brilliant piece of clothing the topic for our latest STYLE Q+A webisode!  This is one of my all time favorite things to wear.  It’s versatile, comfortable and you can style it classic or bohemian.  One thing I forgot to mention in the webisode is a tunic works great as swimsuit cover up!  Watch this…

Here’s a closer look at the shoes I was wearing…

STYLE Q&A

Hey Style Sisters!

There were several great questions submitted here on the blog and on the Facebook Page and {woohoo} it makes my job a whole lot easier knowing exactly the issues you girls are dealing with in your closets!  In today’s webisode, I tackle 3 great topics:

  1. What to pair with navy?
  2. How to layer without looking like you added 10 lbs?
  3. What’s a cute outfit to wear to my kids games instead of my typical yoga pants?

{Navy is for the fashionista not just the corporate biz man}

{Key to layering= wear thin fabrics}

{No yoga pants except to yoga class}

Wishing you plenty of blue skies, leopard print, red lipstick and bouncin’ & behavin’ hair to make you happy the rest of the week!

Share, comment, tweet and like this post if you found it helpful. Thanks for sharing the beauty, style + inspiration!

HAPPY FRIDAY the 13th

Hey Fabulous Friend!

How was your week?  I hope you were kickin’ butt and takin’ names!  It’s been an exhilarating, yet exhausting week for me because of the long build up to my hubby’s music video launch and I’m looking forward to being able to stay in my jammies all day on Sat…..if I can! Don’t you just love a lazy day to “piddle” around the house?  I put Pandora music on shuffle, hair in a ponytail, no makeup and do whatever the heck I feel like. I find if I don’t recharge after a busy week I become a total witch with a Capital B who feels me?  Because I was feeling depleted, I needed an extra snack of Spiritual nourishment last night and curled up with the laptop and watch a few epsiodes of Oprah’s Lifeclass with Bishop TD Jakes + Deepak Chopra. Whew! It was more like a yummy buffet than a snack. I highly recommend watching a few episodes this weekend if you are in need of some good Spiritual food.

{Style Tip}

WOW- I have been blown away at the responses from the “7 Tricks to Hiding the Muffin Top”. Everyone from personal friends, family and YouTuber’s are commenting on how much they needed these tips. Have you tried any of the tips yet? I wanted to remind you to play with your belts. It really is one of the quickest ways to camouflage things in the middle! Especially wider belts….

{Beauty Tip}

Did you know drinking a big glass of water first thing in the morning is one of the most important beauty tips you will ever hear?!  It’s true. Water is vital for proper organ function and remember, our skin is the largest organ so it’s just as important what we ingest as what we apply to our skin.  As we sleep our stomach fills up with acid and the water dilutes it and gets your day started healthy instead of on the toxic side.   Toxicity in your organs will show up on your beautiful face as acne, bags under your eyes and sagging skin.  Make it a habit to take a big glass of water to bed with you so you can down it right when you wake up!  For extra internal scrubbing, add some lemon juice to your water!

{Inspiration}

Do you have a special spot you can go to think, decompress and daydream?  It could be your bathtub, your garden, back porch, your mom’s kitchen table or even the gym. By now, you all know I love hiking and being outdoors.  I love being among the trees and seeing the sky always gives me instant peace. If you don’t have a special spot, I encourage you to find one this weekend. Maybe there’s a beautiful park nearby that you’ve never been to.  It will become your private oasis to run to whenever you need to get a hold of your thoughts, reconnect with your spirit and just EXHALE.

Beauty+Style+Inspiration Quick Tips

Here’s just a few quick tips for mid-summer…

{Beauty}

I am loving the ARCHIPELAGO Grapefruit Sugar Scrub during summer! The sugar is finer that the more course salt scrubs and the grapefruit scent and essential oils are divine.  It’s so important to exfoliate your skin during summer especially if you are out in the sun and in a chlorine pool on a regular basis.

{Style}

One of my summer must have’s is bold colorful necklaces. Have you rocked one yet? Turquoise is one of my fave’s because it looks so beautiful with a tan! Throw in some gold jewelry and you’ll look modern, chic + ultra glam!

{Inspiration}

Remember you become who you hang around. Do you surround yourself with negative nellies, whiners, mediocre people who want you to stay where you are? Make it a priority to hang around those who see your potential, encourage your gifts and help you come up higher. I am so grateful for the circle of cheerleaders and positive friends who make me want to be better!

If you have a great beauty or style tip for summer, make sure to leave a comment!

Have a stylish + successful week ahead,

Tiff
