CHILLAX: Stress Management

Hey Junebugs!

Question- What’s your stress level on a regular basis?  You are probably wondering, “Tiff, what does that have to do with beauty, style or inspiration?”…well, it has a lot to do with how healthy, vibrant, aware, sharp, peaceful and powerful you feel.  Constant stress is carried on your face and will dull your light not to mention over time it can cause serious dis-ease in your body. So let’s discuss this because I am personally “checking myself” and my own stress levels more than normal lately and I find everywhere I turn people are just out-of-their-mind STRESSED OUT!  This is no way to live ladies. LIFE IS SHORT!

I’m about to keep it very real here…

I use to live stressed out all the time with high anxiety because I had not healed through my past and like many people I numbed myself with drugs and alcohol to begin with. Then a friend convinced me to see a doctor and of course, they put me on anti-depressants, anti-anxiety pills and ambien to sleep because I would be so amped up for the other pills.  WHEW! It’s a vicious cycle with this stuff and I couldn’t function long on all these RX’s.  For me, the only thing that worked to calm the nerves was to red flag my stressors and begin a serious spiritual practice of prayer and journaling plus there’s nothing like a good old fashioned long walk to clear your head. Learning to manage your stress will change your life and the lives of those around you!  It really effects every area of our lives:

  • Sleep Difficulties
  • Loss of Appetite or Over-eating
  • Lack of Concentration
  • Sloppy performance on the job
  • Anti-social Behavior
  • Abusing Alcohol or Drugs
  • Nervous Habits
  • Short Temper
  • Poor Memory

Does that sound about right? Make it a priority to check in with yourself on a regular basis and deal with the stress so it doesn’t grow into an unmanageable beast.

Here’s 20 tips I have found to help:

  1. Do not keep things bottled up! Talk to someone you trust to help you work through it.
  2. Spend time daily doing an activity you love. (I hike or powerwalk)
  3. Improve your diet! Eating vitamin rich foods and avoiding junk with preservatives will keep your nervous system functioning properly. Add a B complex supplement too!
  4. Simplify! This is so important but very difficult for “busy bodies”. Stop taking on too many activities at once. You know the popular saying, “my plate is so full”. Well, change that!
  5. Stop rushing! When you feel panicked or rushed, STOP- sit quietly, take a deep breath and regain your composure.
  6. Keep a zen-like peaceful environment at work and at home.
  7. Be present! Don’t put too much thought into the future or the past. Enjoy the NOW!
  8. Avoid unrealistic expectations on yourself and others! Whew- this will alleviate a ton of stress.
  9. Get enough sleep!
  10. Exercise  more! It produces “feel good” chemicals.
  11. Take note of your moods! Ladies, we have those pesky hormones to deal with so be aware of how you’re feeling emotionally and cut yourself a break when you need to.
  12. Explore relaxation methods: Yoga, walking, journaling, listening to soothing music, hiking, etc.
  13. Express yourself! If you feel sad, allow yourself a good cry. If you’re angry, express it constructively. (Breaking plates not allowed)
  14. Love people and use things! Not the other way around. Walking in love is a huge stress reducer. Drop the ego.
  15. Take a techno break! Unplug the phone, stay off the computer, don’t watch TV. Often these things bring major stress into our life and we don’t even realize it.
  16. Learn the power of saying “NO”.  This brings tons of stress on many woman. Being a ‘people pleaser’ will ultimately stress you out and build resentment!
  17. Do not use crutches! Food, cigarettes, drugs or alcohol will also ultimately add to your stress instead of the temporary relief of it.
  18. Avoid boredom! Period.
  19. Surround yourself with positive peeps!  Stress and negativity are contagious so hang out with positive, uplifting friends.
  20. Get in touch with the little kid inside you on a regular basis!  Try to have more fun and find things that give you a good belly laugh every once in a while.

Most important thing of all – GRACE!  It gives you the strength and power to get done what you need to even when you think you can’t. Tap into it.

Let’s not be one of those women who constantly whines and complains about how stressed out she is.  You know that gal!  They talk about it all the time, but do nothing to change it.  Make it a priority.  Make your peace + joy a priority.  I promise it will keep away the lines between your eyes and help you to shine your light as you should, my sista!

A DAY IN MY LIFE…

Hey SOS Sista’s,

I hope everyone is feeling Sassy, Stylish and Superfly today!   As I write this, I am gearing up for a fun girlie day of shopping and getting my hair done (honestly, I hate sitting in the salon chair) to get “purdy” for my B-day weekend coming up.    I have no clue what the festivities will be, but I know my honey and friends have something up their sleeve!   I want to hear how YOUR summer has been so leave a COMMENT BELOW and let us all know! (Hey, I made a rhyme)

In the latest webisode, I wanted to try something a little different and bought the newer version of the FLIP camera in HD.  That lil thing rocks!  Highly recommend you get one to record fun occasions with fam and friends!   They’re inexpensive and very user friendly.  Ok, back to the subject… I decided to tape my lovely Go-to-Girl, Vio Meyners in a typical day of ours.  We start with a workout, play in her closet, head to an audition, lunch and tape an SOS webisode with Marcy Guevara (coming soon!!).

Just FYI, no- I do not go around looking this made up on a daily basis unless I have auditions or meetings!  The tomboy is still very alive in me and on most days, I’m sporting track pants and tennis shoes!  Hope you enjoy a glimpse into my life.  Let me know what ya think and if you would like to see more “reality show”style webisodes…

I get so excited every season to see what the latest & greatest styles will be!   Good thing for all of us FASHIONISTA’S, many of the trends we’ve been seeing since last Fall 2010 through Spring 2011 are the same.  Makes it easy on the wallet!  Get ready to shop your closet before hitting the stores.  You know me, I’m googoo gaga over all the LEOPARD print out right now and did purchase a smokin’ hot pair of leopard shoes. Could not resist.  PURRRR!  So,  if you have a leopard print piece, this is the season to ROCK IT!

In fact, upload a photo of yourself rockin’ your leopard to the SOS facebook page and a winner will be chosen to win a VERY special prize – one of MY FAVE ACCESSORIES!   ONLY SUBSCRIBERS TO THIS BLOG ARE ELIGIBLE!

My Fave Quote This Week:
“Oftentimes, people allow the opinions of others to hold them back & water down their dreams. But, we have to realize that there will always be critics & naysayers in life. One of the most important things you can learn is that other people don’t have to believe in you in order for your dreams to come to pass. Other people don’t set the limits for your life — YOU DO! (Joel Osteen)

FLY HIGH!  xoTiff

WHAT ARE YOU GRATEFUL FOR TODAY?

Sorry there’s no beauty tip or fashion fauz pas to discuss today!  My heart and thoughts are focused on the devastation in the South.   The awesome thing about having a blog is that you can use it to share your expertise and info with others as well as some self-indulgent mind-spewing!

So bear with me,  I’m in the mood to spew…

Finally the media has shifted from all the hype surrounding the Royal Wedding (‘m SO over it..yawwwn) to more important events like the crazy massive tornadoes that have wrecked havoc on the South.    It really humbled me this morning because yesterday I was in a funky mood–you know that “mood” you find yourself in for no apparent reason– it’s not PMS, nothing has pissed you off, you got a decent nights sleep–yet, you feel like your heads about to explode and the littlest things just grate on your last nerve (like the sound of your lawn guy’s weed-eater…buzzzzzzzzzzzzz).   You go through your list of positive affirmations…give it to God…cast your cares–and the more you try to ‘SNAP OUT OF IT’, the more agro you become!

Thank you CNN– for being the catalyst to help me get out of my 24 hour bubble of ME-itis.   This morning as I was having my first cup of joe (that my wonderful hubby brought to me in bed..yes, I know–he’s beyond amazing) we were trying to find a news channel that was NOT talking about that dang wedding on the other side of the pond.   I mean seriously, if I see that 2nd kiss on the balcony one more time I think I’m gonna puke!   Luckily, CNN was covering the devastation in Alabama.  The death toll is over 340 now.  They interviewed a woman who could not reach her mother for 48 hours.  Now, can you personally imagine yourself living in that terror for a whole 2 days???

Wondering..

Is my mom hurt?  Dead?   Stuck underneath pieces of her home and belongings?   Is she safe and warm?  Has anyone helped her?  Is she hungry?   You know how powerful our minds are!?   Thank God her mother was rescued and staying with a sweet neighbor.  Unfortunately, many people do not have the same happy ending.

With the recent catastrophic events in Japan and now this…how do you think, feel, react?

Does it put things into perspective?

Do you stay in your comfy little bubble of a life and try not to think about it?

Does it draw you closer to something bigger outside of yourself?  God?

Do you feel an immense feeling of gratitude?

Wikipedia says:   Gratitude is thankfulness or appreciation.   A positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive.

Whatever you are going through today– and we are ALL dealing with something— take a moment to GIVE GRATITUDE that you are alive!   You’re here!  You’re breathing!   You have eyes to read this post right now!

Thank you for hearing me out!    If you have time this weekend, let’s join together and light a candle and say a prayer for those effected by the tornadoes.

Gratefully~  Tiff
