Winter is Coming — Grab Your Coats

Hey Style Sistas,

As fall starts coming to a close, it’s time to go out and find the perfect winter coat. This winter, it’s important to stay stylish as you bundle up for the cold season. If Pinterest is any indication, layering is all the rage today, and this season’s trends seem to be playing right into this. The easiest way to come up with a sophisticated, layered outfit is to rock the perfect coat, and as Vogue says, this season’s cover-ups come in a BIG variety of styles.

According to the Irish Times, high street has come up with a designer-inspired coat for every taste and budget, so this season seems like the perfect time to invest in a coat to last you through the winter months. The trends we’re seeing this season are colorful fabrics, oversized borrowed-from-the-boyfriend coats, and—surprise—SLEEVELESS PIECES!

A sleeveless coat may not seem like the most practical choice, but its elegance sure makes up for this. It’s also the perfect piece for layering, as it gives you the option to show off those sleeves, and maybe arm warmers.

Bold colors are also seen in many of the coats released this season. If you find yourself doubting the popularity of blocky colors, The Daily Mail recently reported that an M&S Women light pink coat garnered a waiting list of over 100 people after the coat was announced. Many fashion designers such as Paul Smith, Peter Pilotto, and Rag & Bone have also released winter coats in bright colors.

Whatever coat you decide to buy, just make sure that you get one that’s right for YOU. If you have a tall frame, then by all means, get an oversized coat. But if you’re on the shorter side, then avoid coats that may make you look as though you’ve been shrunken down!

REMEMBER: Stay away from that humdrum boring black coat this season!

Spring Fever at TJ Maxx

Hey Ladybugs!

HAPPY LEAP YEAR DAY! About every four years, we get an extra 24 hours of the year! Woohoo! How are you going to spend yours? What a luxury to get an entire extra day! I really love this time of year when Spring is approaching! One day may be 75 degrees then the next it could be 60 degrees. This is a sign that Spring is around the corner and I ALWAYS get a raging case of SPRING FEVER! I feel like a grizzly bear ready to come out from hibernation and shed the winter coats and furry boots! Hmmm, maybe more like a butterfly emerging from her cocoon! Yep, that’s sound better!

I popped into a new TJ Maxx last week and felt like Dorothy entering the Land of Oz! A 2-story magical place filled with colorful Spring clothes, shoes and handbags. HEAVEN! I was thrilled to find a few great MUST HAVE’s to share with you. If you are active on Facebook or Pinterest– forgive the repeat info, but I wanted to make sure you fabulous bloggers were in on the fun too!

COLORFUL JEANS! Last year, the red jean was on everyone’s ‘must have’ list- this year it’s all about the YELLOW jean. I found a great outfit online by Rag & Bone which totaled $495. just for the sweater and pair of jeans. NO LIE! Many of you have more important things to spend $500. on- like maybe important things like food and clothing for your children:-) I found a comparable version of that outfit at TJ MAXX for only $45. Of course, the quality of the fabric is different, but for a trendy piece (like colored denim) that you may not wear next season- this is a wiser investment!

SOMETHING MINTY FRESH! I was a bit iffy on MINT being the new hot color for Spring, but it’s grown on me. It’s fresh and feminine and pairs with a variety of other colors! Since I have so much yellow in my skin- mint isn’t flattering around my face, so I will opt for a jean/pant/skirt or a great HOBO BAG like this one from the Maxx…

CORK WEDGE! This is one my absolute favorite MUST HAVE’S for Spring! Every woman should have a great, go-to cork wedge in her shoe collection. A fresh twist for this Spring is a colorful wedge or one with a splash of color as an accent. These by Steve Madden are so fun! Only $40. HOLLA!

There’s just a little teaser! I’m sure I will find many more MUST HAVE’S as the weather gets warmer! Stay tuned!

Tiff’s 5 Style Rules (take it all with a grain of salt)

Hey Party People!

I hope you all had a lovely Valentine’s Day with more chocolate, hugs and kisses than you could handle! Can you believe we’re half through February? Before long we’ll be tossing the sweaters for sundresses! I’m ready for some highlights and a tan myself.

As always I LOVE the feedback, comments and webisode ideas you are sending in. Several of you seem ready for a CHANGE and asked for tips on how to put together key outfits. In the latest webisode, I give you 5 Simple Style Rules that I have lived by forever! There will be several webisodes to come with more detailed outfit ideas!

STYLE RULE #1: Never leave the house without a little sparkle or bling around your face!

If I’m heading to a workout or running to the grocery store, I always add a diamond CZ stud earring. This just adds a little life around your beautiful face!

Just a few days ago, we lost a very talented yet very tortured soul- WHITNEY HOUSTON. I’m sure like many of you, I have fond memories of dancing and singing along to her videos especially “How Will I Know”. She was so adorable and I want to simply remember her that way. Rest in peace WH and God be with your daughter.

WHAT’S UNDER YOUR CLOTHES?

WATCH NEW WEBISODE (Beware, if you have a young son hanging around the computer…you may want to watch this when he’s not around)

You know I LOVE talking about clothes, shoes, accessories and all that jazz, but what we have on UNDERNEATH our fabulous outfit is just as important. The undergarment business is huge with more selection than ever!

In order for your tops to fit their best, you must wear the appropriate bra!
For that beautiful dress to flow just right on your hips and accent the silhouette, you should wear Spanx or some sort of Shapewear.
For low-slung jeans, you should wear panties that lay flat on your skin and have a lower rise in the crotch.
For the sundress that you can’t wear a bra with, you have a few options for self-adhesive covers.

Our bodies, our boobies and our booties come in all shapes and sizes so find what works best for you! I’m giving you a rundown of my fav’s and what works for me. Tiff’s Top 15 with the Icing + Cherry on Top…Yummm!

Now come on…you know there are WAY more than 15 items I think we all need in our wardrobe! For the sake of time (and it ended up being a long webisode anyway) I narrowed it down to my Top 15 across the board whether you’re a die-hard fashionista or simply stylish! BUT, here is the icing + cherry on top…yummmm! I’m giving you 5 more must have’s and if there’ s an item you love that I haven’t mentioned– come on- don’t hold out on us…SHARE IT GIRL!

1. PEEP-TOE BOOTIE

They’re sexy and you can wear them with pants or skirts. Instantly makes you feel flirty. Make sure to have a fresh pedi!

2. DAYTIME “Signature” CHARM/ PENDANT

I adore charm necklaces! Especially the ones given to me by someone dear to me. It makes me think of them while I wear it:-) Whether it’s a diamond heart-shaped pendant, a healing stone or your initial- I love them all. I think my Grandma started giving me charm necklaces when I was about 5 yrs old. Hey, start ’em young!

3. KNEE-LENGTH PENCIL SKIRT (preferably black)

Bowchickabowbow! These skirts are way more sexy (in my opinion) than a mini-skirt! They flatter just about every body type whether you have stick straight boy hips or a beautiful hourglass figure. Make sure to get one with a great stretch and a bit of a higher waist. They’re timeless and hot, but oh so classy!

4. COLORFUL SCARF

This little item is an instant mood lifter! I function better when it’s sunny outside so on the days that are rainy and dreary, I throw on a bright scarf to change my mood!

5. AVIATOR SHADES

These are my ALL TIME favorite sunglasses for several reasons! 1) They are light-weight so I love to wear them when I’m powerwalking or hiking. 2) They have the little rubber grips for the bridge of my nose so they stay put. I can’t stand how the oversized shades rest on my cheeks! 3) They just look plain COOL! Everyone looks great in aviators. They’re timeless and will never go out-of-style! ROCK ‘EM!

Finally, the cherry on top: A SPARKLY, STUNNING SMILE!

I consider this THE most important must have accessory that you should never leave home without! It doesn’t matter if you are wearing the most gorgeous couture Gucci outfit, if you aren’t rockin’ a beautiful smile along with it…well, you might as well go back home and start all over girl. You just wasted about $2 Grand on nada! Great news for you gals who may have a non-existent shopping budget right now because you’re paying off student loans–if you are sporting a stunning smile–people don’t really notice what you are wearing anyway! They’re captured and impressed by YOU and the confidence that a smile exudes! NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT!
