Important Life Lessons from Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn was a legend, most girls still want to be like her to this day. Here are 6 important life lessons you can learn from her.

1. Seize the day

“Pick the day. Enjoy it – to the hilt. The day as it comes. People as they come… The past, I think, has helped me appreciate the present – and I don’t want to spoil any of it by fretting about the future.” (Source)

“I’ve been lucky. Opportunities don’t often come along. So, when they do, you have to grab them.” (Source)

It’s so important to seize the moment you’re in, don’t focus on the negatives and just enjoy what’s happening around you.

2. Don’t worry what anyone else thinks

“I never think of myself as an icon. What is in other people’s minds is not in my mind. I just do my thing.” (Source)

People will always try to label you, so don’t try to live up to other people’s expectations and instead do what makes you happy.

Love Is The Best Investment

Audrey_love_investment

I encourage you to invest in yourself, too.

We cannot give away what we don’t have.

This quote by Audrey is so simple yet so powerful.

Make sure your own love tank is always filled up so you have a reservoir to give to others.

I had a massive week and am funning on fumes today so I plan to get in a pilates class this weekend, sit in the sauna with the new Spring magazines and hopefully get in a nap too.

What can you do this week to fill-er-up?

Wishing you a blessed Valentine’s Day and hope you all get huge returns on your investments today!

With love + gratitude,

Happy Sunday Sistas!

I was looking back through my old blog posts and decided to re-post these simple tips along with encouraging you all to watch the brilliant little documentary called “Happy”.

BEAUTY, STYLE + INSPIRATION…for Spring {Sunday Affirmations}

spring_mags2013Hey Lovely Lady,

I hope you had a wonderful week.  Can you believe we are entering the final week of Feb?  I am thrilled about Spring approaching and have been browsing through all the new magazines.  My hubby has been in Australia for the past few weeks so I’ve taken advantage of having the house to myself by cleaning out some closets, dusting off my Spring accessories, started a fantastic new book and of course, watched a few of my fave Audrey Hepburn movies.  I’ve seen “Funny Face” a million times, but every single time I fall back in love with the color pink… and Paris!  I just have to share this fabulous scene from the film….

Doesn’t pink just make you feel good.  I never really wore it when I was little because I was such a tomboy.  Hmmm,  I’m thinking my new colored jeans for Spring will be bubblegum pink!  That’s my style tip for the week…..THINK PINK!  Now, for a great beauty tip this Spring, it’s time to put your tube of red aside and bring on a pouty pink lip.  Try a bright hot pink or fuchsia lipstick or gloss. This brings up a fond memory of my Grandma Betty Jo.  Her signature lip and nail color was a bold fuchsia by Estee Lauder.  She was a true fashionista!  This new Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede is suppose to be the bomb.  I plan to pick up a tube on my next trip to CVS.  I’ll let ya know what I think!

revlon_ultimate suede

Since we’re slowly coming out of hibernation, it’s also time to dust off the brain and the foggy feeling that can slow us down during the damp, cold, winter months.  Slight depression or the “winter blues” sets in because of the lack of sunshine and Vitamin D.  A few ways to pump up your Vitamin D is eating more salmon (if you aren’t a vegetarian).  It has very high amounts of Vitamin D and also taking a cod liver oil supplement.  Try to get out in the sun anytime it comes out and get as much as you can– without wearing sunscreen.  Yes, you heard your beauty guru right!  The sunscreen blocks the Vitamin D.   When we are well into Spring and the sun is out to stay, you better get that SPF on at all times.  Spring is a great time to review those goals we set on Jan 1st as well.  If you’ve started to putter out, dust off that motivation and get the pep back in your step.

THIS WEEK I WILL….

  1. Make time for some “girltime”.
  2. Look over my goals and kick it into high gear. (If you’ve been slacking)
  3. Cleanse my body with fresh juice made from greens like kale, celery, spinach, etc.
  4. Exfoliate my dry winter skin from head to toe.
  5. Add more salmon to my diet.
  6. Soak up some rays.
  7. Be bold and rock a fuchsia lip.
  8. Watch a great girlie movie.
  9. Do more yoga. (yoga is great for cleansing the organs and ridding toxins)
  10. Focus more on what I do have and stop complaining about what I don’t.
  11. Do something completely out of the ordinary and girlie…like vacuum the house in a tiara! Ha!

Ba-bye February….Hello March!

Share the beauty, style + inspiration with your friends.  I really appreciate it.

Wishing you many girlie giggles, great hair days and magical moments this week.

Love, Tiff

ARE YOU READY TO LAUNCH?

Hey My Style + Spirit Sistas!

HAPPY HUMPDAY!  How is your week going so far?  I have listened to as many interviews on The Daily Love Extravaganza as I could over the past few days and WHOA BABY- there has been so much beautiful insight and wisdom shared by a variety of life coaches and thought leaders.  I’m looking forward to catching Mastin Kipp, the creator of TDL,  interview my girlfriend Ali Brown on today’s lineup.  I am so grateful for these free resources and tools to help me acknowledge any blocks that could be holding me back.  Growing is not always easy– in fact, it’s pretty painful at times– BUT, I believe staying the same is ultimately MORE devastating and heart wrenching.

QUESTION? Do you put your personal growth as a priority?

The fact that you are here on this blog and have joined me on this journey says that you are interested in becoming the best that you can be (body/mind/spirit), but how much time, focus and energy to you really devote to YOU?  I admit, I still have so much growing to do, so much to learn, many more breakthroughs + shifts to experience.  Transformation is not an overnight process!  But, I am determined and will not give up.  I hope you won’t either.  Investing in yourself is the absolute BEST investment you will ever make.  Like I said, growing can be painful so don’t get discouraged when you feel like you’re drudging through mud and it seems like everything is falling apart.  The beauty of the challenges, trials and difficulties is the amazing strength we gain from it.   These are the moments that will propel you into your greatness.   [STOP] and picture yourself 10 years ago.  Enough said.  It’s all worth it, right?!?

Last Spring, I heard a sermon by Bishop T.D. Jakes that made such an impression on me.  He spoke about an arrow and what it takes to propel it…the tension needed, being pulled back, etc.  Then a few days ago, I saw this fantastic quote along the same lines and it was a great encouragement to me and wanted to share.  You may have seen it on the SOS Facebook Community:

“Whenever God pulls back a bow, the arrow is going to go further than it’s ever gone before. I believe that’s the turning point.” — T.D. JAKES

I would love to hear your comments + thoughts!

Ok, now a style tip and ‘must have’ that I’ve got to mention!  I’m googoo-gaga obsessed with the oversized cat-eye shades right now.  I’m on the hunt and haven’t found the purrrfect shape for my face yet, but mama’s on a mission.  They’re so Glam with a capital G!!!  Audrey Hepburn first made them famous in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”!   Have you rocked them this fall?  I would love to see a pic!

Hope you fly high and soar through the rest of the week with many magical moments, lots of belly laughs and bag-free undereyes!

Love, Tiff

10 Ways To Stay Balanced & Sane:-)

Hey SOS Superstars!

Who’s excited for the 2012 Academy Awards and all the red carpet glam this weekend?  If you’re on Twitter, connect with me and share your two-cents on the red carpet styles.  Follow me at www.twitter.com/sanctuarystyle

PLUS, I am learning Pinterest and slowly but surely creating boards! Like we have time for another Social Media account, but I totally get the obsession with this one!  I admit I’m getting addicted and and love the creativity.  If you’re like me and love Vision Boards, you have to join Pinterest and follow me at http://pinterest.com/sanctuarystyle . I created a board with my fave Oscar Moments.  I love this shot of Audrey Hepburn & Grace Kelly…

Ok, I’ve been brainstorming for this week’s blog and the topic of STAYING BALANCED has come up quite often among my friends.  It seems that everyone is feeling super crazy shifts and changes already this year.  We always start off the new year with a full tank of motivation, but can putter out quickly and start running on fumes from our busy day-to-day routine.  I don’t know about you, but I am not efficient, productive, creative or my happiest when I’m unbalanced.  I have learned the tools, the boundaries, the steps to keep myself from getting OFF KILTER.   If you’re tank is close to E (empty), here’s 10 ways we can keep our tank FULL and stay balanced & sane this year…

  1. Nurture your spirit:  Think of those things you did as a child that made you giddy and all warm & fuzzy on the inside. I loved playing outside when I was little!  So as an adult, the things that feed my spirit are usually activities out in nature.  A hike. Walk on the beach. A drive with the top down in a convertible.  Make time every week for an activity that makes you feel free, giddy and all warm & fuzzy!
  2. Prayer & Meditation:  I am a firm believer in starting your day with prayer & meditation. Taking the time to be still, get quiet and calm the inner chatter in your mind is one of THE MOST POWERFUL things you can do to stay balanced.  If you jump out of bed and immediately check your phone or emails, notice how easily “off kilter” the rest of your day will be.  Prayer is more than giving God a list of “to do’s”.  Focus on counting your blessings and giving gratitude!  This will bring you peace and an emotional state of well-being.
  3. Journaling:  Getting the thoughts out of your head and down on paper is extremely cathartic.  I began journaling about 10 years ago and it was like opening the flood gates!  If you keep all those thoughts bottled up eventually you can implode.  Start simple by logging your hopes, dreams, fears and things you’re grateful for. There is no magic formula to journaling and the method you go about it is a personal thing.  It’s fun to go back and read your progress and growth!
  4. Start a vision board.  Being an artist and a very visual person, I have been creating vision boards since I was a little girl and still do!  You are never too old to make a vision board.  This can be a super creative and fun way to keep your intentions, dreams and goals in plain site on a daily basis.  I prefer using a large cork board and clear tacks.  Cut out photos from magazines and newspapers of images that align with your goals and the vision for your life.  I also love to add powerful affirming words.  Make sure to hang it in a place you will see it on a regular basis.  As specific goals come to pass, remove them from the board and add new ones. This keeps it fresh and makes for a fun project all year long.
  5. Get a mentor.  Sharing your thoughts, goals and dreams with a person you admire and who has your best interest at heart is a powerful way to stay accountable. The definition of mentor: a trusted friend, counselor or teacher, usually a more experienced person. If you have someone in mind, simply ask them if they would be your mentor.  Being a mentor is a serious responsibility and honor.
  6. “Me” time:  This is especially important if you have children!  Do something ALONE every week that brings you joy.  It can be a simple as locking yourself in the bathroom and enjoying a long bubble bath.  I love to “flutter” around for an afternoon…go where ever I feel led to go- BY MYSELF!  I love to pop in one of my favorite shops, stop and grab lunch or get a mani/pedi.  For many, in order for this step to take place, you have to set boundaries with the people in your life that require much of your attention.  Mom’s you even need to set boundaries with your kids! This step is one of the most important ways to STAY SANE!
  7. Move your bootie:  Finding an exercise you love and moving your body is another very important way to stay balanced.  Working out not only helps the size of your thighs, but it helps your mind stay sharp and keeps your emotions under control.  If you get bored with your workout routine, change it up!  Try a new class like this Zumba everyone is raving about.  Just move that butt!  Sitting around wallowing and being sedentary will only inflame any emotional instability or depressed feelings.
  8. Be a giver:  One of the best natural anti-depressants is getting your mind off yourself and helping someone else.  This doesn’t have to be complicated and you don’t have to find a non-profit org to support.  Maybe it’s as easy as calling your lonely widowed aunt and checking on her. Maybe it’s offering to babysit your girlfriends kids so she and her hubby can have a date night without paying for a babysitter.  There’s a million creative ways to give!  It’s a total win-win…you, the giver, feels joy and so does the receiver.
  9. Girl Time:  On a regular basis, make time for special dinners, lunches, shopping dates or weekend trips with your girlfriends.  With the added responsibilities that come with being a wife and/or mother, making time for your girlfriends can be a challenge. BUT, it’s vital for women to connect.  It’s part of our lively-hood. Pick up the phone right now and plan a girlie lunch with a dear friend.  Girl Time does wonders for me…and for my hubby!  It makes me a much better wife!
  10. Join or start a group/class.  Surrounding yourself with like-minded people is a wonderful way to give and receive support.  This can be a book club, a cycling group or runners group, a prayer circle or even taking a cooking or photography class.  I am part of an amazing Spiritual Empowerment Group of Spiritually conscious, intelligent, loving and powerful career women who want to make a difference in the world.  If you cannot find a group to join, think about starting one!  It will change your life!

Staying balanced & sane is possible- no matter what is going on around us.  It’s a choice!  Decide to TODAY that you will do whatever it takes, you will use the necessary tools and you will set boundaries in order to keep from running on fumes! Cheers to sanity:-)

FINAL THOUGHT:

I must share these words of wisdom from my bestie LeeAnne Locken,

“Every setback is a setup for a comeback! God wants to bring you out better than you were before! Every trial we face, comes from the hand of God, who wants us to grow.  If your wise enough, you will see that disruptive moments are really divine appointments. We must learn to LOOK FOR THE LESSON! There is always one there making you a stronger person! The lessons prepare you for an abundant life! Now get out there and MAKE THIS DAY SPARKLE”! ♥
  • Share this blog post with any friends you have that may be feeling off kilter!
  • Comment and share  any ways you have found that help you STAY SANE!

With abundant love and appreciation,

What message are you sending?

Hi my fellow rockstars!

For the new year, has anyone decided to revamp their style?  Maybe you are a Boho chic hippie and want to change things up to appear more polished…

OR maybe you want to be more bold + creative with accessories…OR maybe you live in your gym clothes 24/7 and need a total style over-haul…OR maybe you’re on the frumpy side and want to hone your inner Sophia Vergara!

Remember your image is a non-verbal message to the world.  What message are you sending?    For example, what’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the hippie look?  A care-free, artistic person, right?   It’s interesting– there is so much debate lately about Kate Hudson being the new face of the clothing line, Ann Taylor.   Every style blogger is blogging about the subject (Ha, myself included). The reason for all the debate is the very topic of IMAGE.   Kate is known for her youthful, bohemian, free-spirit look and attitude. Ann Taylor is an upscale, chic women’s line known for it’s feminine business suiting.  Most people do not see Kate & Ann Taylor as a fit– image wise.   But, perhaps Ann Taylor wants to revamp the brands IMAGE and maybe Kate is growing up and wants to change the “message” she’s sending the world!

Do you want to revamp your image this year?

Your image and personal style is a creative expression of  YOU!  Look over your life since you were a teenager and you’ll see how as you’ve grown and developed– so has your style.   I started experimenting with fashion and developing my own unique style when I was in Junior High. (Thanks Mom for allowing me this creative outlet and putting up with me playing on your sewing machine).  One day I looked like Madonna and the next day I looked like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s–and a week later I looked like a Cyndi Lauper wannabe- Geesh!  Not cute!  Then in my 20’s I had the model/club/party girl look down. Most of my wardrobe was from Bebe, Express and Rave (which was a lower version of Contempo). Yikes I’m totally dating myself! WHO REMEMBERS CONTEMPO?  My BFF and I went through a mini-skirt and platform combat boot phase (I wish I had a photo to show you).  Let’s just forget all about the “message” we were sending the world.  Delete- delete-delete!  Hey,  that’s what your 20’s are for- trial and error, right!

Jump to TODAY- what message are you actually sending to the world?  Do you want to change it or are you perfectly happy and confident in your IMAGE?  At the end of the day, you have to be happy with your reflection in the mirror and comfortable in your own skin, but if you want to be a real estate powerhouse- the Boho Chic look is not going to help you sell those $5M mansions.   Assess your message!

A HEALTHY REMINDER:

I highly recommend adding fresh juices to your lifestyle!  I’ve been juicing for about a month and feel amazing. Carrot, ginger, apple, celery and sometime beet, kale or blueberries!

NEW WEBISODE COMING NEXT WEEK!  Remember to send me comments, your 2 cents and feedback! Please share this with your friends too. I appreciate it!

Love,

Tiff
