Ready, Set… GOALS!

Hey Warrior Woman!

Can you believe we are a few days away from Christmas and 10 days from greeting 2017? I’m here to encourage and inspire you.. well, really to give you a good old fashioned kick in the butt to create a doable set of goals to ensure the coming year is a total success.  It’s such a special time of the year because we are closing one chapter and embarking on a new one. Write an amazing one, sista!

I also like to change out the word goal with “commitment” in certain areas. When you make a commitment, you alter and elevate your entire lifestyle! For example, “I commit to a healthy and fit lifestyle” and within that commitment you can make a goal like losing 10 lbs by doing spin, yoga and circuit training 4 times a week for the next two months.

LET’S DO THIS!

Think of the most important areas of your life and set goals and/or commitments for each of them along with specifics like timeframes, dates, dollar amounts and pounds. To get you started, here’s a list that I go by. Add any pertinent areas that are special to you:

  • Spiritual: Relationship with God. Do you give enough time to your spiritual life? Perhaps it’s setting a daily Divine appointment with God, a great devotional, book, Bible and journal. (I never cancel this appointment!)
  • Family: Do you want to become a parent? Pregnancy goals? Do you need to reach out to an estranged family member to heal that relationship?
  • Career: What do you wish to achieve in your career? Do you need to get a mentor in this area? Do you need to shadow someone successful in your field? Is there a class I need to take to learn more in my field?
  • Financial: Do you want to increase your yearly income? Save a certain amount? Pay off debt?
  • Physical: Do you need to get your hormones checked? Do you want to do yoga twice a week? Poor eating habits that need to be changed? Weight loss? New skincare routine?
  • Fun/ Pleasure/ Entertainment: Do you do entertaining things that make you laugh? Do you need to plan more girls nights? Have you been dreaming of a vacay to Cabo? Is there an art class you’ve been wanting to take? What’s the % of how serious and un-fun life is to how much your really enjoy life?
  • Attitude: Is there a mindset that you feel is holding you back? Are you negative Nellie? Do you come from a lack mentality or one of abundance? Are you a people pleaser?
  • Serving: Is there a charity you want to volunteer for? Could your church use your time in the nursery or leading a small group? Should I start a YouTube channel to share a message that will empower others?

Print out your goals and hang them wherever you will see them daily. Do a weekly and monthly “check in” to gauge your progress. It’s all about having a strategy for your life so you’re not wandering around aimlessly which creates low self-esteem and kills your confidence. I mean — don’t you feel like a total bada$$ when you achieve and check off a goal. Holla!

Get a special calendar (aside from your iCal) or journal for your goals. One of my favorite things to do all year is picking up my new desk calendar. I get so excited about the new people I will meet, the new opportunities, the new experiences.

Set realistic and attainable goals! You have to believe that you can achieve it. For example, if you want to be in a body building competition you wouldn’t wait to start training 3 weeks before the date. That’s totally unrealistic.

Add in a vision board and positive affirmations to help keep you focused on the outcome and end results! Visualize yourself as already achieving these goals.

See yourself 10 lbs lighter.

See yourself happy and confident.

See yourself making an impact in the lives of others.

See yourself out of debt.

See yourself finishing the painting.

See your YouTube Channel up and running.

How does that make you feel? The feeling is really what you’re going after.

Goals are vital, but also keep an open heart so you will flow and enjoy the journey more. God usually has different plans for us that we have for ourself. Always invite Him into this process! This has been one of the biggest challenges of my life because as a former control freak — going with the flow was not something I did gracefully. Trust me, God’s plans are always bigger and better than my rinky dink plans.
