I Want To Hear From You, Darlin!

[Throwback Thursday photo in the sanctuary our 1st Spring in DFW. I’m kind of missing that dark hair!]

No, I’m doing the typical “new year, new you” crap that everyone else is doing, BUT– I am gearing up to give you the latest + greatest potions, lotions and wellness products I’m loving right now. Trust me, I love getting rid of the old this time of year- old habits, old clothes, old makeup- and clearing the clutter to make room for the new. I just prefer thinking it terms of a BETTER you!

I need your help. Next week we are planning and taping new videos! I’m so excited.

  •     What questions do you have?
  •     What do you want to see in terms of beauty and wellness?
  •     What issues are you having?

Talk to mama.

JOIN US March 25th to help raise funds to build it! Get your early bird tickets by Jan 31st! After mentoring an underage girl in Canada for 3+ years who had been a victim and CPS shuffled her from one bad shelter to another- I am committing to raising awareness & helping give shelter and love to these girls in our very own backyard!

WOMEN OF DALLAS EMPOWERING OUR YOUNG WOMEN: A Personal Invitation to the ESTEEM Fashion Show

Julie_Pic2Julie, Age 17

Remember back when you were a teenager?

What was your confidence and level of self-esteem when you were 17?

Were you under the pressure to be a good girl and to always look good. Perhaps you didn’t feel that pressure- thank God, but the majority of teen girls feel the pressure so strongly that they commit a slow suicide by starvation and binging/purging. We all know it’s not about the food- it’s about feeling so out-of-control that the one thing they can control is their weight. There are many layers to an eating disorder. As a teen, I experimented and swung between bouts of starving myself and binging/purging. Many of the women in my family were overweight and constantly dieting so at an early age I learned what a laxative was and how to abuse it. At around 16, I had a Japanese modeling agent tell me that my legs were too big & muscular and if I wanted to have any kind of modeling career, I needed to have thinner legs. The self-loathing was amped up to a new level at this point. Even at my age and so many years passing since the go-see with that agent, I still have to keep myself ‘in check’ from disliking my legs. Luckily, around age 20- after a few years of experimenting with hard core diet pills from Mexico, starving and working out for hours, I couldn’t keep it up and decided I enjoyed good food more than I enjoyed modeling. I was never that super thin, gaunt model and was on the shorter side at 5’7″ so bikini and fitness modeling was the niche I worked best in. My curves and muscles were embraced and I could give up the diet pills!

Now, let’s put ourselves in the shoes of this generation of teen girls and how they are bombarded with Instagram images and size zero celebrities to compare themselves to. I can’t begin to imagine the battle for perfection they are killing themselves to achieve. Because of my tumultuous teen years and knowing the pain girls suffer in silence, I began mentoring young girls who are dealing with issues from eating disorders, cancer, abuse, early pregnancy, drugs and more.

Now that I’m in Dallas, I was introduced to The Elisa Project– founded in 1999 by Rick and Leslie McCall in memory of their daughter Elisa, who suffered from an eating disorder and ultimately took her own life. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, The Elisa Project is dedicated to the prevention and effective treatment of eating disorders through support, awareness, education, and advocacy. We strive to be the premier knowledge resource on eating disorders and a proactive agent of change to ensure that all those affected by these diseases receive the treatment and support they need. via http://www.theelisaproject.org

Dallas sistas, I invite you to join us for the ESTEEM Fashion Show —now in its 5th year—is a celebration of positive body image and self-esteem. Local celebrities will join girls and women, of all ages and sizes, to embrace healthy, balanced lifestyles and self-acceptance. By helping to increase awareness about eating disorders and the importance of positive body image, ESTEEM encourages people to love themselves while striving to be healthy.

I am thrilled to be walking in the show in honor of my sweet Julie who is on the road to recovery from heart complications due to anorexia.  Hope to see you there!  Invite your friends!

MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY {Sunday Affirmations}

FIFERS_april2013

Happy Sunday Girlfriend!

I trust you are all having a beautiful weekend.  I’m playing catch up after spending most of the week in Dallas.  It was a wirlwind trip filled with playtime with the most precious toddlers, laughing over wine with dear girlfriends of 20+ years and of course, over-indulging in my fave food– TexMex!  Something that has been resonating with me since my return to LA is how inspired I am by the women in my life.  We seem to look for inspiration everywhere these days (I even base my blog + webseries on it) in the latest motivational book endorsed by Oprah, in movies, art, church or even on Pinterest.  Sometimes all we need to do is look at the lives of our nearest and dearest.  Inspiration is right under our nose and can so easily be overlooked and underappreciated.  There were several beautiful life lessons I learned on this trip, but the thing that made the most impact was how powerful it is when a woman MAKES UP HER MIND to do something.  Hold on to your hats boys… Hurricane Sally is coming through town!   When mama makes up her mind… shizzle gets done!

Christine_Tiff_Heidi2

I had so many thought-provoking conversations on my trip with women from all walks of life, but there are a few scenarios that inspired me the most.  Remember a few weeks ago, I posted a blog about my friend Christine who recently went through 15-16 rounds of chemo.  Well, just two weeks ago Christine underwent a mastectomy.  On top of that, I was not aware that prior to her finding out about the cancer, she had torn a ligament in her wrist from yoga.  She had what was suppose to be a simple surgery that turned into a nightmare leaving her with a permanent metal rod from her hand halfway up her forearm.  She not only lost a breast in the past year she has lost the use of her hand and may never do yoga again.  When you are in Christine’s presence you sense nothing but gratitude, bravery and strength.  It overwhelmed me!  She doesn’t feel sorry for herself and doesn’t play the ‘woe is me’ sad song.  She put a smile on her face and made up her mind in the beginning of this journey that she would stay positive and get through it…SHE DID JUST THAT!  She even got dressed up complete with a fab wig and attended Heidi’s birthday party only a few weeks after surgery!  CAN WE SAY ROCKSTAR!?!

Another inspiring woman– a family friend, who has fluctuated with her weight for years, recently lost over 60 pounds and I barely recognized her.  Hello Supermodel!!  She not only looked amazing physically, but she was glowing and had a beautiful sparkle in her eye.  We had an intimate chat and she explained how she was looking forward to starting a family and wanted to be as healthy as possible during her pregnancy, plus be a healthy and strong mom for her kids as they grew. WOW!  SO INSPIRING!  She made up her mind and lost the weight.  Once and for all.  I am so sick of hearing myself complain about “that 5-10 lbs”.  Who’s with me?  If she can make up her mind to lose 60 then surely I can make up mind and get rid of that stubborn 5.  I have stepped it up with my workouts recently, but I am about to become hardcore BFF’s with the treadmill and achieve my goal already!

One more inspiring story I want to share with you was hearing that one of my dearest friends is about to close on a home.  She has fulfilled most of her dreams throughout our friendship and then some, but one of her most important was to own a home.  After searching and searching she finally found the one!  Sometimes our dreams seem so far off in the distance or like they will never come to pass.  If you set your mind, never give up, keep believing, keep praying and keep working towards it– YOU WILL ACHIEVE!   Imagine yourself sitting in that dream kitchen.  Never lose sight. Then one day you will wake up and actually be sipping that first cup of coffee in your new home.

Are you wishy washy?  Do you battle with wavering, hemming + hawing and doubting yourself?  I admit I can think a thing to death because I can’t seem to make up my mind sometimes.  We play that mind game because we FEAR the outcome of making the wrong choice.  I read something recently to the effect of “we are free to choose, but we are not free of the consequences of our choice”…so like most issues, the root of indecision is that dreaded four lettered F word– FEAR.  Our minds are so powerful when we focus on the outcome we desire and make the decision that NOTHING will stop us from achieving it.

THIS WEEK I WILL…..

  1. Stop the mind games.
  2. Quit the hemming and hawing.
  3. Connect with inspiring girlfriends + ignore the whiners!
  4. Release the fear.
  5. Choose love, joy and peace.
  6. Fake it till I make it if I have to.
  7. Focus on my dreams.
  8. Keep growing + stepping into my greatness.
  9. SMILE MORE.
  10. Trust in God’s destiny for me.
  11. Believe that I will achieve!

IS IT A DRESS? IS IT A TOP? {New Style Webisode)

NO….IT’S A TUNIC!

Tunic_swimsuit

A viewer recently asked for ways to style a tunic so I decided to make this brilliant piece of clothing the topic for our latest STYLE Q+A webisode!  This is one of my all time favorite things to wear.  It’s versatile, comfortable and you can style it classic or bohemian.  One thing I forgot to mention in the webisode is a tunic works great as swimsuit cover up!  Watch this…

Here’s a closer look at the shoes I was wearing…

Keep your eye out for tunics right now!  I’ve seen them everywhere from H&M, TJ Maxx and Zara.

EAT YOUR WAY TO GLOWING SKIN

HEY GLAM GIRLS!

After a much needed vacay and short hiatus- SOS is back with a fresh batch of beauty & style love!   I take an annual trip to Texas to refuel, connect with my BFF’s  and spend QT with my folks.  This ALWAYS helps me recharge and refocus!  Thank God my skinny jeans still fit after 10 days of TexMex, Mom’s biscuits and gravy and many decadent meals in Dallas!

I am SO excited about the new webisodes and I’m busy editing them as we speak.  This week’s topic is all about the key foods we should be eating to keep our skin healthy & glowing.  I’ve introduced you to my stunning girlfriend, professional model- Julianna Geldien in previous blogs (remember she took an awesome missionary trip to Peru and then shared a yummy recipe for kale salad) and I’m thrilled she stopped by to share her tips for keeping her gorgeous glow!

REMEMBER!  There’s one more day to enter to win my new find- Voluminous False Lash Mascara.  I’m giving 2 fashionistas a tube!   ENDS WED, NOVEMBER 16th.

LAST THING:

I’m reading an amazing book by Iyanla Vanzant called “One Day My Soul Just Opened Up” and I highly recommend it!  I’ve been watching her on Oprah’s Life Class and her insight is life changing…

“Everything that happens to you is a reflection of what you believe about yourself. We cannot outperform our level of self-esteem. We cannot draw to ourselves more than we think we are worth.”
― Iyanla Vanzant

Why did I create SOS? (Plus a few updates)

A LIL ONE-ON-ONE WITH TIFF…

If you have been watching my webisodes and reading my blog for a while now, you probably have a good idea what I’m all about, right!?  There’s still a few things I haven’t shared publicly YET and over time I will be more open and transparent.  There’s a time and place for everything!   I’m actually going to write a book!

In Part 2 of my hike up Runyon Canyon, I take a moment to say a few positive affirmations and give thanks for all of you and this mission through Sanctuary Of Style.

||UPDATES||

I recently experienced first hand the truth of Oprah’s saying, “Success come when Preparation meets Opportunity”.    I was booked as the host, image coach, mentor and counsler to young women needing a serious life change!    This role was custom-made for me.   So grateful for the experience!   Unfortunately, I can’t give too many details, but let’s just say- this is a show we’ll all love to watch.

(Here’s a pic of me giving the ladies a few etiquette and dating tips)

You have heard me rave about Entrepreneur Mentor for Women, Ali Brown.  I have been diving into her telecourses and learning so much- not only about business, but personal growth!   Even coaches need to be coached!   She’s a fellow Lioness and on the day I wrapped my show, she invited me to her personal birthday party with a handful of powerful entrepreneur ladies.  It was the perfect way to wrap a perfect experience!   If you are interested in taking your business to the next level, I highly recommend checking out her teaching products at www.alibrown.com.   I am planning to attend her exciting 3 day conference called SHINE in Dallas on Nov 2-4th.  I hear it’s life-changing!   I know many of you are in Dallas so check into it at this link: SHINE 2011 INFO.   Could be fun to catch up there!

I want to give a special SHOUT OUT to the extraordinary ladies who were so generous with their participation on the July Swag Bag Giveaway, Carla Masley and Shelley Goodstein. You gals rock!

Last thing, if you are planning to clean out your closets this summer to make room for fall- please consider donating your gently used items to DIVA’S CLOSET!
