Yes, It Works!

Happy Weekend Wonder Women!

We had a blast kicking off the first week of my birthday month by giving away my favorite detox system by TeaMi Blends. I get messages and emails constantly asking if it really works. YES, it works! I would never, ever promote anything and put my name behind a product if I didn’t love it and find it effective.

That being said, the skinny and colon teas in the 30-Day Detox are NOT a quick fix. Many people are looking for that magic product or diet for weightloss and this is not it. A few people have told me they have tried other “skinny” teas on the market and they didn’t work for them.

You must do the ALL the work including a clean diet and regular exercise.

Detoxes aid in weightloss because they help the body get rid of toxins that may be preventing your metabolism to function properly. I am all about gut health right now and researching how it effects adrenal fatigue. Look into it! Also, slow and steady wins the race. Losing weight slowly and pampering your body during the process will ensure long term success.

Trust me, being in the modeling industry for 25+ years — I know all about starvation, binging, harsh diet pills from Mexico, uppers, laxatives, hours of step aerobics and all the horrible things many of us have tried in the attempt to lose weight.  I am sure that all the years of not honoring my body and abusing it is a big reason I am having to do all of these healing things to restore it at almost 46 years old.

It’s not about being “skinny”.

It’s not about a thigh gap.

It’s not about wearing a size 2.

It’s about honoring this one body God blessed me with.

It’s about respecting myself.

It’s about being strong and vibrant.

It’s about doing the right things now so I feel and look my best 20 years from now.

It’s about having the energy to walk out my destiny. (DVF is 70 and she is still killing it in business & media and looks like a million bucks!!)

No photoshop! Everyone is right about the Samsung camera phone. Tried my hubby’s phone for the first time.

I proudly show off my “TeaMi Tummy” (hey, that should be a hashtag #teamitummy) and am proud of myself for doing the work and not just constantly complaining about it.

Get your 30-Day Detox for 15% OFF at www.teamiblends.com and make sure to get a tumbler! It’s a gamechanger and makes the process so much easier. I’ve done detoxes that I had to cook in a pot and was a slave to  the kitchen for a week. Not convenient!

DEBUNKING DETOX: Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good

lookgood

Hey 2016- you’re looking mighty sexy from here!

Who is ready to look, feel and do better than they did last year? If you answered with a loud YES with your hand waving in the air then you’re in the right spot. For the month of January, I go into a nesting and cleansing mode. It’s important to me to dedicate the first month of the year to getting prepared. I have GRAND plans for 2016 and want to clear the appropriate spaces for the GREATNESS to come.

Who needs to clear some clutter and cobwebs?

Why carry last years BS into the new year!?

I cleanse my mind by reading and journaling my thoughts on the changes I plan to make. I cleanse my body and detox. (I’m on Day 10 of no alcohol) I cleanse my house by throwing out the clutter. I cleanse my spirit by listening to powerful spiritual leaders and focusing on my connection to God. December felt like one big party so I decline invitations this month without guilt. Who else is partied out? I’m ready to get to work and I’m not just referring to job and career. Working on yourself and investing in you is the best work you can put in!

You all know I went through a major detox a few months ago. People were both interested and scratching their heads at my plan. A few people even laughed at me! I look at it as a much needed tune up! We can’t look, think, do and feel our best if our body is running on fumes and breaking down. I also wanted to understand the true meaning of a detox and found this article. Take it all with a grain of salt! Knowledge is power:

HAPPY KIDNEYS: I’m A New Woman!

FullSizeRender-46

Are you sick of hearing about my detox yet? Well, sista– this is the final and most important post about it so please listen up. I mentioned about three weeks ago in the post about rebounding  that I was dealing with some crazy fatigue. My holistic doc found out I was dealing with several issues. Immediately, he put me on a detox program and let me tell you- today, I feel like a new woman! WooHoo! My energy is back and that fog has lifted from my brain. Feels good to be able to put together a complete sentence again- LOL! The weekend I completed the detox, I embarked on one of the busiest work and event weeks that I’ve had this year -complete with a quick job in LA- and I felt amazing. I was worried I wouldn’t have the stamina to pull it all off, but I DID IT!  God works in mysterious ways and I was able to walk barefoot on the beach (for the negative ions…also recommended by my doc) on the final day of my detox. The above photo was how I was greeted in Santa Monica. #BlessedAndHealthy

I am passionate about giving you ladies style tips so you look great, but if you don’t feel strong, healthy, sharp and energetic then the fab clothes really don’t do much. When you feel good, you look good and you go out into the world and do good!

At the end of October, I slowly eased into the detox by starting just a few things my doc recommended. It’s too shocking to our body to start off with everything at once. I began cutting back on meats and eating much cleaner/organic. I added rebounding and dry brushing daily to stimulate my lymphatic system, cut back on coffee (grrrrrr!!) to one cup in the morning instead of two and stopped drinking alcohol. The second week, I added daily juicing to the regimen. I love the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain because it’s easy to use and clean up.  For this detox, I used primarily veggies and no fruits to cut back on the sugar. Beets and carrots have a lot of sugar so I would use one or the other and not both at the same time. If you just cannot deal with the “earthy” flavor, add a small apple for sweetness.

kidney-detox

The final and most important part of the detox was the 5-Day Kidney Detox by Dr. Schulze.  I admit to being a bit nervous about it, but it really wasn’t that bad! Drinking lemon water was already part of my morning routine so that was easy although I had to drink 2-3 times more than normal with added cayenne. Sipped on a delicious tea throughout the day and that’s about it. You also need to plan it during a week that you can keep a light schedule because you pee a zillion times a day as your body is getting rid of the toxins. I read the book that came in the packet and realize now how important our kidneys are. Knowledge is power!

5_day_Kidney_Detox

1.Your kidneys clean ALL of the blood in your body EVERY HOUR!

2.Your kidneys balance your body’s fluid levels, stopping water retention, as well as dehydration.

3.Hypertension is the #1 reason Americans die of heart attacks and strokes. Your kidneys regulate your blood pressure!

4.Your kidneys are responsible for the assimilation of vitamins into your bloodstream.

5.Your kidneys regulate and control the production of red blood cells, which carry oxygen to every cell in your body.

“Every organ in your body DEPENDS on your kidneys staying healthy and strong. In fact, all the cells in your body need nutrition brought IN and waste eliminated OUT, and they need your KIDNEYS to do this!

Your kidneys weigh about five ounces each and are roughly the same size as your fist, but they filter 96 GALLONS of your blood EVERY DAY!” –Dr. Schulze

GINGER: One Ingredient = Many Benefits! By Guest Blogger Stacey Marshall

ginger

In this article, I’m going to share with you some information about a powerful, nutritional herb and compound, ginger.

Ginger is extremely versatile in its interaction inside the human body:

  1. It is proven to be an extremely potent pain reliever than box-standard pain killers
  2. Studies have shown it to be more effective at improving digestion than over-the-counter digestive medications
  3. It’s been proven to reduce symptoms of nausea

Ginger root has been used for thousands of years for its health benefits. As I mentioned earlier, one of the main benefits of consuming ginger is that it reduces inflammation.

A recent medical study, published out of Denmark, and published in the Journal of Arthritis, found that:

If you consume just a small amount of ginger, it is more effective at reducing your pain symptoms and inflammation than pain killers given by general practitioners today.

So again, if you’re trying to reduce pain and inflammation, ginger is more effective than many medications, according to the Journal of Arthritis.

Ginger is also very effective in improving the digestive function. If an individual suffers from some kind of inflammation in the intestines, this could well be a warning sign of GI inflammation. Things like eczema, acne, psoriasis, or certain types of skin blemishes are a warning sign, that you probably have inflammation in your digestive tract. Ginger is a great way of reducing these symptoms.

Not only has ginger proven to reduce inflammation, it also supports digestive health. Another incredible thing about ginger is that it aids digestion due to its prebiotics content. It contains a specific type of fiber, which causes good bacteria to grow in that area.

For all the dieters out there, a healthy digestive system aids weight loss, which is another benefit of using this ingredient.

Last but not least, ginger is very effective at reducing symptoms of nausea. So, if you’re ever going to be flying in an airplane, or let’s say, going on a boat all day, and you get sea sick, taking ginger is one of the best things you can possibly do.

You can rub a small amount of ginger essential oil behind your ear. One of the things physicians advise their patients over the years who’ve had arthritis, and diabetes, and other symptoms of inflammation, is to drink ginger tea.

Ginger-tea

It’s very easy to make:

  1. Boil green tea
  2. Slice up ginger root
  3. Boil ginger root for 30 minutes (it releases anti-inflammatory compounds)

Try just drinking ginger green tea throughout the entire week.

Alternatively, break off a piece of ginger, or throw it in a smoothie. Ginger can be great with blueberries and peaches because it adds some really good flavor.

Remember all the benefits from ginger:

  1. It is powerful at reducing inflammation
  2. Can reduce symptoms of nausea
  3. Supports digestion
  4. Contains prebiotics

Get more of this super herb ginger in your diet. Medical science proves it, and history proves it, so how much more persuading do you really need?

DETOX TIP #1: Jump Your Way To Feeling Good

IMG_9586

Hey Hey Hotstuff,

For the last few months, I have – to put it bluntly – felt like dog crap! It snuck up on me because early Summer I started a new vitamin and supplement program and was feeling fairly energetic. In August, I felt faint a few times and my energy was like a yo yo. One minute, I felt fine then the next day like I was living life through mud. By the beginning of October, I was beyond fatigued and so foggy brained I was fishing for words. The PMS was intensified (poor Aaron) and I was weepy the week before my period and the week after. Do the math – that means I only had one good week. My weight fluctuated like a blow fish without changing my eating or workout program. Yes, I know at my age the hormones are ever-changing, but there seems to be more to it. With all the beautifully blessed things going on in my life- I want to be fully present to appreciate every minute of it. Not just one week a month. That simply is not God’s plan for how we should live. One of my life verses is John 10:10 which says that He came that we might have life and have it to the full until it overflows. Ummm- overflow means a lot, not just one week a month.

SCREECH!! Slamming on the breaks. No mam, I’ve had enough and this started effecting my work. Part of being a great TV Host is thinking quick on your feet. My head was feeling disconnected and for someone who is high energy and usually super sharp- this just sucks. I listened to the signals my body was giving me and consulted my holistic doctor to find out the root of my issues!

My lifestyle is healthier than most people so how on earth can I feel so lethargic, blue, achy and overall crappy? Ladies, I share this journey with you because I am on a mission to help women live their best and healthiest lives. Transparency about my journey (the good and the bad) is important to me. If I am open about my life and it helps just one of you — mission accomplished. You’ve heard me say this a million times, but – true beauty shines from the inside out. When we feel good, we look good then we can go out and do good in this world. It shocked me to find out from talking to other women that too many are living life with low energy, anxiety, depression and aches. They are misdiagnosed or the doc puts them on an anti-depressant without treating the real issues.

ARE YOU CHECKING IN WITH YOURSELF REGULARLY?

ARE YOU IN TUNE WITH YOUR BODY OR DO YOU IGNORE THE SIGNS?

Many women are living with a combo of thyroid imbalance, clogged lymphatic system, candida (if you wonder what that is, watch my old video) and shot adrenal glands. If you live a high stress and anxious lifestyle, your adrenals are fatigued from working over time. First off, you need to lighten your schedule and remove as many stressors as you can. I was told that living in a high stress, congested city like Los Angeles as long as I did would definitely fatigue my adrenals. I found out this is exactly the combo of issues that I am dealing with. When both your  thyroid and adrenals are out of whack- EVERYTHING in your body goes out of whack!  I also found out that I’m “chronically dehydrated”. This was puzzling because I thought I was good about drinking water. Ask all my friends- I go everywhere with a large water bottle filled with water. When the body is dehydrated, it is a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria buildup and infection. Just like a stagnant pool of water.

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?

There are several simple holistic methods to balance the body. I admit, since moving to Texas- I have veered from my strict health program. Shame on me!  On top of that when life gets too busy, our health and well being are the first to suffer. This week I began a detox program and happy to say- I am already feeling a bit better. Over the next few weeks, I will share some of my detox activities, but if you are having serious issues, please talk to you doc.

[DISCLAIMER] These are holistic/Ayurvedic tips — which is one of the world’s oldest whole-body healing systems. (Developed centuries ago in India) Results may vary for each person.

DETOX TIP #1: REBOUNDING (jumping on a mini trampoline

Your mom may have had one of these in the 80’s. Remember the Jazzercise craze and high cut leotards? Well, this is actually one of the very best exercises for overall vitality and stimulating the lymphatic system. The lymph system bathes every cell carrying nutrients to the cell and waste products away. The lymph is totally dependent on physical exercise to get it moving! It’s the best 15-20 minutes you can do for your body daily. I jump after my morning devotional time while I’m catching up on the news. A cup of coffee, green smoothie and 15 minute rebounding session gets my day started off with plenty of energy. I can literally feel the oxygen flood my body. It’s amazing!  I researched several brands and chose the Gold’s Gym 36″ Circuit Trainer – shown above. It is quick and easy to assemble, lightweight and super sturdy. If you kept it in your bedroom, it would slide easily under the bed.

Here’s the 411:

The lymphatic system is the metabolic garbage can of the body. It rids you of toxins such as dead and cancerous cells, nitrogenous wastes, infectious viruses, heavy metals, and other assorted junk cast off by the cells. The movement performed in rebounding provides the stimulus for a free-flowing system that drains away these potential poisons.

Without adequate movement, the cells are left stewing in their own waste products and starving for nutrients, a situation that contributes to arthritis, cancer and other degenerative diseases. Vigorous exercise such as rebounding [jumping on a therapeutic mini-trampoline] is reported to increase lymph flow by 15 to 30 times. Also, bones become stronger with exercise.

Vertical motion workouts such as rebounding are much different and much more beneficial and efficient than horizontal motion workouts, such as jogging or running.

It is important to realize that as you age, your body may become more toxic due to the pollutants in today’s world. It is also important to realize that if you have a disease, your cellular structure is compromised, as your cells are already being robbed of the correct oxygen, mineral and nutrient compounds that they need to stay healthy.via Wellbeingjournal.com

LIST OF 10 BENEFITS:

  1. 20 minutes of rebounding = 1 hour of running for cardiovascular workout
  2. Strengthens the heart muscle
  3. Great for skeletal system and increasing bone mass
  4. Helps improve digestion
  5. Increases endurance on a cellular level by stimulating mitochondrial production (these are responsible for cell energy)
  6. Improves balance by stimulating the vestibule in the middle ear
  7. Helps circulate oxygen throughout the body to increase energy
  8. Improves muscle tone throughout the body
  9. Helps support the thyroid and adrenals
  10. Helps improve the effects of other exercising

Please take care of yourself sista. Life is short and we are only given one body to carry us through. I want to enjoy all of it!  Be conscious of what you are putting in your mouth and drink half your body weight in ouches of water daily.

Your body is a Temple, not a Trash can.

Don’t worry- we still have the style videos on the schedule I just need to focus on this program and sorting it all out right now. I’m excited to find out the issues and make the changes, then share those findings with you.

SHARE. LIKE. COMMENT.

I would love to hear from you and if you’ve dealt with any of these issues.

Happy Jumping!

End of Summer Pampering + Your Sunday Eve Affirmations

Hello Gorgeous!

Who is excited to celebrate the official end of summer this holiday weekend?  Perhaps many of you are sad to see summer go. I have mixed feelings because I love the long days of sunshine, but this heat has got to go already. It has been fun to read all the comments by you mom’s on Facebook about the kids going back to school and getting more time to yourselves.  This is the PERFECT time to focus on YOU and start sprucing up your skin, hair, nails, energy level and wardrobe for Fall.  Sounds like a hefty job, but YOU ARE WORTH IT!  If you have spent too much time in the sun + chlorine, nibbling on your kids packaged snacks, exercising less and enjoying that extra summer cocktail on a regular basis– then there are a few simple tweaks we can do to get back on track!

BOOK A FACIAL:  Because we sweat more in the summer, you may notice more breakouts and blackheads.  It is great to have a professional esthetician perform any extractions, deep clean and hydrate your sun-parched skin. Plus, even if you are diligent with your sunscreen you probably picked up a few new sunspots and hyperpigmentation which can be helped with a light glycolic peel, microdermabrasion or my fave, the Hydrafacial.  You know I adore at-home facials, but I also firmly believe in treating yourself as often as you can to a professional facial. (I have to give a shout out to my amazing esthetician, Trisha Gilbert at Motykie MedSpa.  She gave me an off-the-charts end of summer Hydrafacial last week.  If you are in the greater Los Angeles area, book an appt today)

HAIR HYDRATION:  Does your hair feel like the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz?  Then it’s time to do a DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENT.  There are several great ones on the market, but I love KERESTASE MASQUINTENSE FOR THICK HAIR the most. They also have a formula for fine hair.

EXFOLIATE + HYDRATE SKIN: There are a few different ways to exfoliate the skin which are super effective.  I just started DRY BRUSHING a few months ago and love the difference it has made in my skin. There are many important health benefits to it other than just getting the dead skin off. Dry brushing also helps stimulate the lymphatic system. You do this before you get in the shower.  Scrubs are also a great way to exfoliate and the essential oils leave your skin hydrated and feeling so soft.  There are many fantastic products from Neutrogena, Philosophy, Archipelago and even Trader Joe’s makes a great scrub!  If your skin is extremely dry, I recommend slathering on coconut oil or olive oil after showering. Use sparingly so you don’t feel like a piece of chicken ready for the frying pan!

MANI/PEDI PLUS PARAFFIN:  Remember a woman’s hands can show aging before her face, so it’s vital that we take care of them.  Treat yourself to a mani/pedi with the works (paraffin wax, hot stone, extra massage and callous remover) to get your hands and feet feeling like they belong to a lady and less like a mechanic!

DETOX/ CLEANSE:  With the fun BBQ’s, picnics and vacations, we tend to eat more snacks and drink more alcoholic beverages during the summer.  This really takes a toll on our energy, our waistline and our metabolism.  I don’t go overboard because detoxing can become stressful.  Instead we need to look at it as a form of self- love and nurturing our body and organs and not as a “diet”.  A few simple things we can alter is the obvious: Lay off the alcohol, additional sugary drinks + snacks, any processed/ packaged foods, excess dairy, wheat, meat.  Implement juicing into your daily routine.  It does wonders for your organs and energy levels.  Eat more fresh raw foods.  You should be drinking a protein shake daily, but if not- I highly recommend starting the day with one filled with super greens, antioxidant supplements and either blueberries or strawberries. (REMINDER: If you have specific health issues like heart or thyroid problems or diabetes– you must consult your physician before trying any diet or cleanse)

WARDROBE DETOX:  Plan an afternoon to go through your wardrobe and determine what needs to stay, what needs to go and what needs to be moved to another closet.  I did this last week and it felt awesome!  I was able to see what items I needed to get for Fall and what I what I needed to give away.  Then I hit a few of my fave stores and strategically purchased what I needed. This really saves time + money.  Here’s my webisode on the topic in case you missed it:

Your Sunday Eve Affirmations.

THIS WEEK I WILL…..

  1. Pamper myself.
  2. Follow my bliss.

Does your metabolism need a kick in the pants?

Metabolism, adrenal glands and especially hormones seem to be a popular topic between all my girlfriends in their 30’s.  Is it true that every 7 years we ladies should expect our hormones to change and go haywire?  WHAT THE HECK?   I am finding it more and more difficult to keep my metabolism and energy levels up.  You?

I am often asked what my fitness & health “program” is and I want to share a few quick tips I have found to give my metabolism a good kick in the pants!

First, consider doing a cleanse or detox.  Our bodies can become very acidic which wrecks havoc on our metabolism!  I have discussed a candida cleanse that I did and had great results.  See my previous blog and webisode.

1.  Drink a glass of water right when you wake up. (Before you drink your cup of joe) After a nights sleep, we have toxins just sitting in our body.  This flushes them out and prepares your body for the day.

2. Protein shake for breakfast. (Remember breakfast means “break the fast”.  During sleep, our bodies go into a “fasting” mode so it’s vital to never skip breakfast.  Skipping breakfast slows down your metabolism.)

-8 oz of water
-1 scoop of Whey Protein Powder
-1/2 banana
-Sprinkle of flax seeds
-Super red powder (pom, acai, blueberry, etc..) OR Super green powder (broccoli, kale, green tea, etc..)
-Big dash of cayenne pepper

3. Drink water, water and more water!   Staying hydrated speeds up your metabolism.  Our mind and organs, as well as our cells- function better!  Live, alkaline water or at least water that has minerals added is the best!   Random bottled water has absolutely no hydrating benefits to your body.

4. Eat small meals every 3 hrs.   I call it “grazing”.   Never skip meals!   Our  body shuts down and actually holds on to the fat.

5. Start taking EFA’s (essential fatty acids: omegas, flax, borgage) Helps with adrenal and thyroid activity which effects your metabolism.

6.  Cutting out sugar, wheat,  gluten, alcohol and dairy.  Yes, that sounds harsh but you will see a huge difference in your energy!  You do not have to deprive yourself forever and I certainly love my glass of wine, but these things must be limited during a detox.   I know it sounds redundant, but EAT MORE FRUITS & VEGGIES!

7.  Move More!   Powerwalk around the block.  Dance in your living room.   Keeping active will ensure a healthy metabolism.

PLEASE CAUTION!  THIS IS WHAT I FOUND WORKS FOR ME!  PLEASE CONSULT A PHYSICIAN BEFORE TAKING CERTAIN SUPPLEMENTS IF YOU ARE DIABETIC OR PREGNANT!

My wish is for you all to feel healthy, strong & powerful!   Comment and let me know if you are dealing with a lazy metabolism or if you have a great health tip to share with us.
