STRUT IT INTO THE HOLIDAYS! #Tiffirmation

PBO copy 2

Hello Fabulous One!

How is your October going? The holidaze are around the corner and it can be a whirlwind of stress when it should be a relaxing celebration with loved ones. I’ve had an action-packed month so far myself and needed to reach in to my spiritual toolbox for some extra guidance last weekend. I realized I have slacked on using my daily affirmations! How dare I? It’s so important to me that I walk the talk and practice what I preach, but I admit- I’ve been a slacker.

Typically, I hang them everywhere (fridge, bathroom mirror, desk, etc) to keep them smack in front of my face. Not sure why, but my house is affirmation free right now.  I have a devoted prayer + mediation time in the morning, but sometimes life is so crazy we need the additional help to keep our mindset straight. If you have been following SOS for some time now you know how strongly I believe in the power of our words and the use of daily affirmations. I had to pull out my own affirmation ebook and printed out the whole spirit section and “declaration to myself”. It really works! If you are rolling your eyes and still on the fence about affirmations, I encourage you to try it for 21 days and see how your mood and attitude shifts.

Shortly after I started the blog, I began posting affirmations on Sunday to help women (and myself) get their mind and spirit prepared for the week ahead. It quickly became the favorite post of the week and women would write me saying they would print them out.  So in 2013, I compiled 101 of the best affirmations from those Sunday posts and put them in an easy to read Ebook. Did you get yours yet?  This may be repeat info for many of you, but there are several new blog subbies I wanted to get this gift to!

Here’s an excerpt from the spirit section. They are simple, but often simple is the most effective. There are also beauty and style sections:

  1. Read more + watch TV less.
  2. Give myself a pat on the back instead of beating myself up.
  3. Attend a movie, concert or seminar that inspires me.
  4. Go BIG and stop playing rinky-dink.
  5. Be my own biggest cheerleader.
  6. Stay excited with the expectation of what’s on the other side….even though I’m not sure what it is!
  7. Not base my identity on how I look, what I wear or what I own. I am a Child of God. Period!
  8. Use power words instead of wimpy words.
  9. Embrace that quirk about myself that I’ve always hated.
  10. Make more time for girltime.
  11. Remove the mask and be truly authentic.

HELLO DECEMBER: Tiffany’s In Texas!

hello_decemeber

Howdy Sistas!

A quick hello and wishing you all a Wonderfully Fabulous December! We made it safely to Texas and a big wish of mine has come true. I’ve been longing to move back to Texas for the past few years to be closer to my family and besties. We thrive in the “atmosphere” that is best suited for us and I am thrilled to see what is in store for us here. My hubby is already loving it too! Aussie turned Texan! Yeehaw G’day Mate.

Remember, the holidays can easily turn into a stressful, rush rush rush and exhausting experience if you allow it. It is ok to decline that 19th cocktail party invite and choose to stay at home with a cup of hot cocoa and an old movie instead. Gift giving can become an expensive exchange if you aren’t diligent to stay in your budget. Sometimes a real snail mail card or phone call to connect is the best give ever! Take some time to enjoy and be grateful for the “reason of the season” and begin thinking of the intentions you want to set for 2014. The holidays are a time of celebration, reflection and taking time for the things that matter most in life. We can get pulled in too many directions then we end up starting the New Year frazzled. JUST SAY NO SISTA!

LOVE YA LIKE A SIS: Women Need Women

Hey Sisters,

As women, we thrive and function at our best when we have a supportive sisterhood of like-minded friends.  This all began for me when I was very little.  Whether it was playing with my cousins (who were all girls except for one) or my sports teams or cheerleading squads, I was always blessed to have a great group of girlfriends.  Back then, we loved throwing slumber parties and giggling about boys and dancing around my parents living room.  Not much has really changed.  If you catch a group of my girlfriends at my BFF’s house in Dallas….before the end of the night– the furniture is moved and the living room is turned into a dance floor!   When women connect, it does something differently to our spirit than connecting with our boyfriends/husbands or children does for us.  If we go too long without “girltime” or hashing out life over a cup of coffee with a dear friend, our spirit suffers a bit.  Don’t you notice how your spirit is lifted after a good dose of fun with a great group of girlfriends?  You have a pep in your step and that warm & fuzzy feeling resonates with your for a few days after.   Encouraging and supportive female energy is a mighty force that we all need in our lives.

When I began healing and growing in my late 20’s, I went through a dark and lonely time.  I began to “outgrow” friends and was too emotionally raw to get out there and make new ones.  Of course, I am so grateful for this period in my life because that’s when I got to know God.  He truly is the greatest Positive Force, Friend and Father.  I also starting watching “The Oprah Winfrey Show” much more and noticed it gave me that “lift” I was missing.  I felt connected and that hour episode on TV had become my “girltime”.   I kept this in mind as I began to create my talk show ideas and figuring out how I could use the power of video to help women.  I knew if I felt lonely then there had to be so many women around the world who felt disconnected like I did.  One of the best comments I receive about my webseries, this blog, and the Facebook community is how it gives you Mom’s a sense of girltime once the kids are in bed and you have some time alone on the computer.  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Over time, I was blessed to connect with new, like-minded, spiritually conscious girlfriends and have created deeper friendships than I’ve ever had before. Whether it is online with social media or offline in real life, I encourage you to connect and reach out if you are in that lonely space.  Ask about groups in your community or church.  If you can’t find one, start one of your own.  My girlfriends and I here in LA did just that and it has made a huge difference in all of our lives.  LA can be a very disconnected place because there is not the same sense of community as in more family-friendly cities.  We have done a great job of creating our own surrogate LA family/sisterhood.  We can get a brief shot of connection and friendship on Facebook, but nothing can take the place of feeling a friends hug, sharing a laugh (or cry) and making eye contact.  A sisterhood gives you a sense of belonging and a knowing in your spirit that “I am not alone”.  I swear, it has to help with your immune system and overall health & wellness too!

I’m filled with gratitude today for all the amazing women in my life including this SOS Sisterhood.

MY NEW BFF: Coconut Oil

Coconut20oil202

I just have a quick, but very important beauty + health tip today….

I recently mentioned coconut oil (my new BFF) on the Facebook Community and several ladies commented and shared their favorite way to use it.  Ok, so I guess coconut oil has lots of BFF’s.  I’m glad to hear it because this stuff is amazing internally and externally.  Many of you here on the blog are not “facebookers” so I wanted to make sure you got this great info as well.

I have been using coconut oil for the past few years, but only on occasion.  I would use it in the winter as a deep conditioning treatment on my hair or as a moisturizer on my skin when it was super dry, but that was about it. Recently, I have been cooking with it more and it’s delish!  Substitute it for the cooking oil you are currently using.  I switch off between the coconut oil and EVOO.  The list of health benefits from coconut oil is a mile long:

  • hair care
  • skin care
  • stress relief
  • maintaining cholesterol levels
  • weight loss
  • increased immunity
  • proper digestion and metabolism
  • relief from kidney problems
  • heart diseases
  • high blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • HIV and cancer
  • dental care
  • bone strength

The benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial and soothing properties. (http://www.organicfacts.net)  It even worked on my chihuahua’s hotspots.  I tried several different natural home remedies as well as over-the-counter lotions on her skin and nothing worked as fast as coconut oil.   Make sure to get organic virgin coconut oil that has not been bleached, refined or hydrogenated.

Be beautiful inside + out!

SPEAK LIFE NOT DEATH {Sunday Affirmations}

Hey Beautiful,

Julie_angelDrawn by Julie, Age 17

How was your first full week of 2013?  I am fueled by all the excitement and energy that’s buzzing around.  I’ve had a wonderful yet challenging week.  My heart is so full of hope for the girls I’ve been mentoring and I thank you all for your prayers.  I know it’s making a difference!  Some day, I will share more details with you, but for now I wish to protect them.  I have become a surrogate mama and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to speak life into a child who needs it.   I have learned many valuable lessons from this experience, but one of the most important is that the power of our words can alter everything for a person, especially a child.   The words we speak over others can create a flourishing life or total destruction.  The same goes for how we speak over our own lives as well.  I have had to reprogram my messed up thinking from childhood.  It’s been a loooong process, but I finally made it to the other side….well, it’s really not the ‘other side’.  It’s the course I should have been on all along.  My authentic course.  Not the one a parent, teacher, grandparent, coach or mentor created for me.

When you were a child, were you told you were smart?  beautiful?  talented?  My dad never said these things to me, in fact he made me feel down right stupid, but thank God my mom reinforced my strengths and made up for my dad’s lack of encouragement and affection.  For the record, my dad only did what his own father did to him.  I love my dad and we have a much healthier relationship now.

Yep, I’m a late bloomer, but better late than never, right.  Now, I am passionate to help others get back on course as well.  I hope it encourages you to know– at any given moment– we have the choice to change our course.  Be diligent in how you speak to yourself and to others.  Choose to speak life not death.

THIS WEEK I WILL…..

  1. Think before I speak.
  2. Shower others with compliments. Even strangers.
  3. Be encouraging instead of critical.
  4. Stay on my authentic course. (No matter what)
  5. Tell myself every single day, “Girl, you are beautiful!”
  6. Forgive those who criticize me. It’s only a projection of their own insecurities.
  7. Not complain. It puts me in a weak position instead of a powerful one!
  8. Silence my Negative Nellie. Even if I have to use the duct tape!
  9. Take a beat and a breath before I let something stupid fly out of my mouth. (We can’t take words back)
  10. Live with integrity 24/7.
  11. Embrace my own pace!  My personal growth path is an ‘at my own pace’ plan.  I will not judge it… no matter how slow it seems compared to others!

Did any of this resonate with you?  I would love to hear your comments + thoughts. Tweet it and share this post with your friends too. I appreciate it!

A big pat on the back to all of you who joined in the “Complaint- Free Weekend Challenge” on the Facebook Community.  I trust it was an eye-opening experience and raised your awareness in how you speak on a daily basis.  By focusing on the blessings in our lives, we unlock the power for even more blessings to flow.  Complaining does the opposite and blocks the blessings.

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.

Love, Tiff
