BEAUTY TIPS FOR HOLIDAY FATIGUE {Plus Inspirational Vlog}

Hi Pretty Poinsettia!

Is the holiday overindulging leaving you with red, puffy eyes and an overall fatigued look?

Holiday_fatigue

Because I work in front of the camera and have to look bright-eyed at a moments notice, I have found the following tips give me an instant well rested look even after a night of little sleep, high sodium meals, sugary treats and one glass of wine too many!  On top of that, I have hereditary dark circles and puffy eyes (Thanks Daddy).  Plus, the use of heaters and all the nasal issues we deal with during the winter can add to the puffy eye problem.  The combination of all these tips will give you the appearance of being bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and as if you slept a full 8 hours, I promise!

1. HYDRATE: Drink a large glass of water with juice from half a lemon. This helps with relieving a puffy face and cleanses the body of toxins. I actually down a big glass of lemon water first thing EVERY a.m.

2. NATURAL DIURETIC: Puffiness is due to a build up of fluid under the eye.  Eat a bowl a strawberries to flush out water retention.  They are loaded with calcium, potassium and arginine which have diuretic properties.

3. TEA BAGS: Chill used tea bags in the fridge and apply to eyes for 10 minutes to reduce swelling. Cold spoons work as well, but aren’t as comfortable.

4. UNDER EYE CREAM WITH CAFFEINE:  Look for eye creams and serums with caffeine which shrinks fluid buildup under the eye. I use Garnier anti-dark circle rollerball with tint on days my eyes are extra dark and puffy. The caffeine plus the rollerball help de-puff the under eye area super quick.   **I will be giving this tinted rollerball in this week’s stocking stuffer!

5. EGG WHITE MASK: Using approximately 1 teaspoon of an egg white as a facial mask will tighten the skin and shrink swelling and pore size. Wakes up your skin and gives you an instant glow.

6. HIGHLIGHTER IN CORNER OF EYES: Adding a brightening white, beige or peach eyeshadow to the inner corner of the eye adds a youthful look and widens the appearance of the eyes giving a more rested look.

7. VISINE: A ‘must do’ to whitens the eyes.

8. RAISE YOUR HEART RATE: Doing 50 jumping jacks or taking a brisk 15-20 minute walk instantly increases the circulation in the body which adds a flush to the cheeks helping you look more awake.

Plus, if you can get in a few 15 minute power naps here and there during the holidays it will help you get through all the parties and activities and try to stay away from sodium rich foods too.

CANDID VLOG: I share my thoughts on prayer.  I would love to hear your comments on the topic!

We’ve only got a few more days left until the final stocking stuffer winner is announced!  See you on the Facebook Page.

End of Summer Pampering + Your Sunday Eve Affirmations

Hello Gorgeous!

Who is excited to celebrate the official end of summer this holiday weekend?  Perhaps many of you are sad to see summer go. I have mixed feelings because I love the long days of sunshine, but this heat has got to go already. It has been fun to read all the comments by you mom’s on Facebook about the kids going back to school and getting more time to yourselves.  This is the PERFECT time to focus on YOU and start sprucing up your skin, hair, nails, energy level and wardrobe for Fall.  Sounds like a hefty job, but YOU ARE WORTH IT!  If you have spent too much time in the sun + chlorine, nibbling on your kids packaged snacks, exercising less and enjoying that extra summer cocktail on a regular basis– then there are a few simple tweaks we can do to get back on track!

BOOK A FACIAL:  Because we sweat more in the summer, you may notice more breakouts and blackheads.  It is great to have a professional esthetician perform any extractions, deep clean and hydrate your sun-parched skin. Plus, even if you are diligent with your sunscreen you probably picked up a few new sunspots and hyperpigmentation which can be helped with a light glycolic peel, microdermabrasion or my fave, the Hydrafacial.  You know I adore at-home facials, but I also firmly believe in treating yourself as often as you can to a professional facial. (I have to give a shout out to my amazing esthetician, Trisha Gilbert at Motykie MedSpa.  She gave me an off-the-charts end of summer Hydrafacial last week.  If you are in the greater Los Angeles area, book an appt today)

HAIR HYDRATION:  Does your hair feel like the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz?  Then it’s time to do a DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENT.  There are several great ones on the market, but I love KERESTASE MASQUINTENSE FOR THICK HAIR the most. They also have a formula for fine hair.

EXFOLIATE + HYDRATE SKIN: There are a few different ways to exfoliate the skin which are super effective.  I just started DRY BRUSHING a few months ago and love the difference it has made in my skin. There are many important health benefits to it other than just getting the dead skin off. Dry brushing also helps stimulate the lymphatic system. You do this before you get in the shower.  Scrubs are also a great way to exfoliate and the essential oils leave your skin hydrated and feeling so soft.  There are many fantastic products from Neutrogena, Philosophy, Archipelago and even Trader Joe’s makes a great scrub!  If your skin is extremely dry, I recommend slathering on coconut oil or olive oil after showering. Use sparingly so you don’t feel like a piece of chicken ready for the frying pan!

MANI/PEDI PLUS PARAFFIN:  Remember a woman’s hands can show aging before her face, so it’s vital that we take care of them.  Treat yourself to a mani/pedi with the works (paraffin wax, hot stone, extra massage and callous remover) to get your hands and feet feeling like they belong to a lady and less like a mechanic!

DETOX/ CLEANSE:  With the fun BBQ’s, picnics and vacations, we tend to eat more snacks and drink more alcoholic beverages during the summer.  This really takes a toll on our energy, our waistline and our metabolism.  I don’t go overboard because detoxing can become stressful.  Instead we need to look at it as a form of self- love and nurturing our body and organs and not as a “diet”.  A few simple things we can alter is the obvious: Lay off the alcohol, additional sugary drinks + snacks, any processed/ packaged foods, excess dairy, wheat, meat.  Implement juicing into your daily routine.  It does wonders for your organs and energy levels.  Eat more fresh raw foods.  You should be drinking a protein shake daily, but if not- I highly recommend starting the day with one filled with super greens, antioxidant supplements and either blueberries or strawberries. (REMINDER: If you have specific health issues like heart or thyroid problems or diabetes– you must consult your physician before trying any diet or cleanse)

WARDROBE DETOX:  Plan an afternoon to go through your wardrobe and determine what needs to stay, what needs to go and what needs to be moved to another closet.  I did this last week and it felt awesome!  I was able to see what items I needed to get for Fall and what I what I needed to give away.  Then I hit a few of my fave stores and strategically purchased what I needed. This really saves time + money.  Here’s my webisode on the topic in case you missed it:

Weekend Love + Pampering

Hola Chicas Bonitas!

Is anyone celebrating  Cinco de Mayo with a yummy skinny rita, tacos and great amigos?  We’re doing pre-production and setting up the lights in the new closet to start taping long overdue webisodes TOMORROW!  Yay, I’m so thrilled to share fresh ideas, tips and inspiration with you!  Today’s blog is to remind you to do something specifically and solely for YOU this weekend chica.  When you take the time to love and pamper yourself, you will have the energy to give more love out!  When we feel depleted or haggard- what happens?  That witch with a capital B comes out and we put out more cranky and less love.  We definitely do not shine our brightest either.  Right?!

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO FOR YOURSELF THIS WEEKEND?

Maybe you need to book a massage?

Take a steam sauna?

Curl up with a good book?

Go for a long walk alone?

Get a mani/pedi?

One thing I love to do on weekends is give myself a healthy homemade facial.  Right now I am dealing with a slight hormonal breakout so I gave myself a Greek yogurt and lime juice facial.   It’s so simple and you don’t need any fancy-shmancy ingredients or products.   The lactic acid in the yogurt softens and exfoliates the skin.  It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin.  It is also an anti-fungal and anti-bacterial so it’s fantastic for killing acne causing bacteria.  The lime juice acts as a toner for oily skin.  All you need is:

  • 2 Tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt
  • Juice from 1/2 a lime (Limes aren’t as juicy as lemons so press down on it + roll it a bit on the counter to soften it before you cut it. This will help make it juicier)

Wash face with warm water to open pores. Apply mask all over face being careful of the eye area.  Leave on for 20 minutes then apply a warm wet washrag over face and pat for about a minute.  Rinse thoroughly and follow by applying your fave moisturizer.  Get glowing with clear skin!

For more homemade facials, watch this webisode from last summer:

If you are making skinny ritas this weekend, check out my two-cents on the different brands:

Last thing- have you checked out Jessica Simpson’s jewelry line?  She is killin’ it with the accessories these days and her latest line of earrings are fabulous.  You know I love gold hoops and these are fun with a bit of added oomph. A sweet “just because” gift from my BFF Heidi…

Have a fun and safe weekend!  If you have a specific topic you would like me to discuss on an upcoming webisode, feel free to share it.  I will be shooting weekly again and love to get ideas and feedback!

Salud!
