Happy 2015 Gorgeous,
I hope you all had a wonderful time ringing in the new year with family and friends. Have you been indulging? I sure have and don’t feel guilty about it at all, no mam! But, I am excited to get focused and back on the regular routine. A light cleanse and detox always does the trick for me. I’ve already shared how to get your mind & spirit ready for the new year so the perfect topic for the very 1st blog post of 2015 is preparing your body for looking and feeling it’s strongest.
First, get back in the habit of drinking your lemon water every morning upon rising!
Second, eat a nutrient rich, fat flushing veggie soup for about 7 days. I love this recipe (and so does my hubby) and have been eating it for the past few days. It’s so tasty you don’t think of it as a detox soup! With the rain and chill here in DFW, this detox soup has been ideal.
- 3 peeled & sliced carrots
- 1 stalk of celery, sliced
- 2 medium sweet potatoes, cut into cubes
- 1 clove minced garlic
- 1 small white or yellow onion, diced
- sea salt to taste
- pepper to taste
- all spice to taste
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 cans drained black beans (optional for added protein)
- 2- 32 oz cartons veggie broth
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 4 cups baby spinach
Add everything -except the spinach- in a large pot or crock pot. Cook covered on low for about 4 hours. Just before serving, add in spinach and stir for about 3-5 minutes until wilted.
I keep the rest of my diet clean with egg whites or a protein shake for breakfast, the soup for lunch and a big salad for dinner. Snack on fruit and nuts throughout the day. Drink tons of water!
This recipe is from the book, Hungry for Change. This soup is packed with superfoods, antioxidants and fiber which flush toxins and fat from the body. It’s a healthy, safe and effective way to kickstart healthy eating changes for the new year!
Third, the indulging also effects our skin so I love a soothing detox bath. This stimulates the lymphatic system, cleans pores and softens skin. Make sure to drink plenty of water prior to and after the bath!
*If you have an oversized spa tub, double the ingredients.
- 1/3 Cup of Sea Salt
- 1/3 Cup of Epsom Salt
- 1 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
- 2 teaspoons of ground ginger
Have a tall glass of water ready to drink in the bathroom. Set the bath water temp a bit hotter than normal, but make sure it’s still comfortable. Stay in this mixture for at least 15 minute making sure to submerge your entire body up to your neck. I take little breaks and sit up every few minutes. DO NOT LET YOURSELF OVERHEAT! The ginger really gets your circulation and sweat glands going.
If you are in a tub with a shower head, as you drain the water, stand up slowly and rinse off with lukewarm water. This washes away any residual salts and toxins sitting on the skin.
Dry off well and hydrate with a moisture rich lotion.
Drink that tall glass of water! Try to plan this in the evening when you do not have to be anywhere. Relax and enjoy!
Fourth, now that your pores are open, sit back and relax with a detoxing mineral masque. Because of the additional sugar, sleeping with my makeup on too many nights (I know, I know… bad girl!) I’ve had some light breakouts so I get things back in order with Hard Night Good Morning’s Detox Mineral Masque. It oxygenates your skin so you can feel and look rejuvenated. Perfect for all the late night’s and too many glasses of wine! Just sayin’!

This is your year to live a bit bigger & bolder than you ever have.
I’m ready. Are you?
LET’S GO!
