MONDAY MOTIVATION: Looking Beyond

Beautiful big blue eyes

HELLO GORGEOUS!

Happy Monday. I trust you all had a wonderful weekend and many of you will be off of work today to celebrate Veteran’s Day. God Bless all the heroes and sheroes who have so courageously served our country.

Over the past few weeks, the following topic has been on my heart and I wanted to share it here with you. If you are tuned into Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday’s or have your nose in the latest self-development books, you know the topic of Ego is everywhere. Allowing the ego to rule is an epidemic that, we as a society, try to protect ourselves with it. Is is really protection? No, it’s not. The Ego robs you of the beauty, love, grace, joy and connection we all long for. We can view the EGO as Edging God Out. When we edge God out, we are edging LOVE out. I wore so many masks for years and would throw a wall up in a New York minute if my Ego felt threatened. This was misery! Life is lackluster and in black & white, it’s cold and unfulfilling when you allow the Ego to run things.

When we shift from Ego to Love, our world changes. It becomes joy-filled, vibrant, exciting, colorful and whole.

Look beyond…open your eyes. This week see beyond a person’s mask, walls, hard heart and the superficial facade they guard themselves with. Allow your  HEART  to see their HEART.. instead of your Ego greeting their Ego. Beyond everyone’s Ego is a Child of God longing to BE SEEN for who they really are.

  • Do you protect yourself with a mask?
  • Are you afraid to let others SEE you, but you secretly long for them to?
  • Do you judge others for their superficial exterior or can you see their authenticity beyond the “act”?
  • Can you see someone’s heart even though it may be covered with scars, a lock & chain and layers of pain?

I challenge us all to really SEE the purity and greatness in others and in turn, others will be free to see the greatness in us. Lose the term “take it for face value” and look deeper. You will be blessed for it!

Love, Tiff

YOU are a gift bearer! [July Intentions]

Happy Sunday Style + Spirit Sistas!

Today, I want to share a beautiful passage from Robert Holden’s book Shift Happens! with the hope that it will inspire you as deeply as it did me. I highly recommend this as one of your summer ‘must reads’.

shift happens

You are a gift-bearer. You are the “light of the world,” and so is the person next to you. Do not forget your purpose. Do not be distracted with “getting” and “having” and “to-ing” and “fro-ing.” Do not give in to fear, and do not let old wounds blow you off course. Your healing is a gift. Your happiness is a gift. Your loving touch is a gift. Give yourself, heart and soul, and find out who you really are.

You are gift wrapped.

Unwrap yourself now.

Let your gifts spill to the floor

and all over the world.

Watch how your kindness

transforms this cruel world.

See how your love heals fear.

Notice how your courage

inspires us all.

Let your smile release

this sad old world.

Give everyone you meet

the star in your eye.

SHINE YOUR LIGHT.

OPEN YOUR HEART.

Notice how your peace of

mind makes any war more

meaningless and harder

to fight.

Your happiness is a gift.

It attracts angels from afar.

Your smile is like champagne.

Your laughter is like love.

Your healing ispires us.

Your presence is a miracle.

UNWRAP YOURSELF NOW.

On this final day of June, I wrote a list of all the wonderful and miraculous things God blessed me with this month– in a brand spankin’ new journal. I felt like a giddy little kid thinking of all the cool things that have happened in June. Can I just tell you how powerful it is when you begin setting positive intentions for each month?  Have you started this practice yet?  Many of us perform this ritual at the first of January, but when we set intentions for every single month– beauty and peace begins to surround us on a daily basis and not just for Jan + Feb. Joy seems to take over and diminishes the fear.  IT’S AWESOME! I feel like jumping up and doing that cheer “A-W-E…S-O-M-E. Awesome, Awesome TO-TOTALLY!” Yes, I know…I”m goofy like that, but I’m just driving home how effective it is.  I double-dog-dare-ya to try it for July.

Another book I highly recommend is The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer.  I read this about 12 years ago and it’s a game changer.  BUT, most importantly– when you invite God into your plans and align them with His plan for your life… WHOA BABY, hold on for a adventurous ride because God’s plans or intentions for us are even bigger than we have for ourselves.

Are you not quite sure what an INTENTION is?  It is a course of action that one “intends” to follow. It is an aim that guides action; an objective.  I love the term “AIM” because it gives you the sense of that laser beam focus needed for hitting the bullseye.

  • Do you need to set boundaries in a toxic relationship?
  • Are you slipping and getting lazy with your health + fitness goals?
  • Have you been sacrificing your “ME” time and not feeding your spirit?

We all have certain areas in our lives that get out of balance really easily.  By setting intentions and visualizing how you want July to play out will set you up for success. Let’s join together and set the community intention of UNWRAPPING + UNLEASHING OUR GIFTS to the world!

I would love to hear one of your intentions for next month. Please share + make a comment!

JULY IS GOING TO ROCK!

Don’t Sweat It, Girl! How to be Stress-Free in 2013 by Guest Blogger- Ryan Rivera

Hi Steel Magnolias!  Happy New Year!

Many of you have written in and expressed that you’re battling anxiety and panic attacks.  I have been there girlfriend.  The first time I had a panic attack about 15 years ago, I thought I was dying and it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest.  The long term physical and emotional pain we experience from anxiety will ultimately rob of us from living the healthy life we deserve!   I’m excited that Ryan Rivera of The Calm Clinic reached out to share his tips with us.  I thought this was the perfect reinforcement we needed as we hit the new year running….

ANXIETY_strength

Modern life and everyday living can be so stressful, and women often find these to be causes for anxiety. Then there is that time of the month when our estrogen levels, which affect our vulnerability and anxiousness, fall below normal. This makes us more prone to emotional roller coasters that severely affect our mood.  On a normal day, we stress ourselves out over trivial matters, and then work or family-related matters add up to the pressure. The next thing you know, you’re totally dazed.

While we can’t really escape the trappings of the daily grind, we can choose to handle it better.  Know which tasks to spend time on and which ones to abandon.  Lighten your load and see how your world can open up and become a more vibrant, positive place.  A lot of women find themselves wallowing in their woes and burdens, feeling incapable of escaping the lives they built for themselves. The truth is that you can always choose to improve your life and not waste time on the petty things that carry the most weight.

Don’t let stress and anxiety render you incapable of living the life you want. You can use both to motivate you to be the best in everything you do, but don’t let it get to you so bad that you start feeling inadequate on a regular basis. Don’t think too much about what other people might say about you, don’t pour over the littlest things, and spend too much time worrying about small issues.  Anxiety can help fuel you at times, but it can also cripple your abilities and prevent you from performing when you let it get to you.

Since hormones don’t really work in our favor, women should remain headstrong and persistent.  It may take more effort for us to be able to move forward and battle the anxiety which could hinder us from getting what we want, but it will be worth it!  Don’t sweat the small stuff and just keep doing what you need to do in order for you to achieve your goals. Never allow anyone or anything to stop you from succeeding in life.

Here are 5 simple and doable things you can do to reduce anxiety:

  1. Exercise. Try signing up for a gym membership or work out on your own just to channel the negative energy that’s pent up in your system.  A good workout will boost your endorphins as well.
  2. Get crafty. Get into a new hobby and learn new skills. Who knows? Something that starts as a hobby could end up a source of income for you. This happens to a lot of people. They earn out of something they love doing.
  3. Rest and relax. Unwind and don’t let yourself be bothered by stressful thoughts. You don’t have to splurge to unwind. It can be a day at the spa, lunch date with friends, or movie date with your loved one.
  4. Form healthy habits.  Eat right and stop the vices.  If you maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle, it will allow you to perform better at work and accomplish tasks more.
  5. Find more things that make you happy.  Open your eyes to the beauty around you.  Focus on the things that make you happy and spend less time focused on the things that stress you out.  Make sure to slow down as well.  There’s power in the saying, “stop and smell the roses”.

Women should not become victims of feelings of anxiety. There is so much more to life than having to go through the pressure of living up to other people’s standards. Do things as you please, and live your life the way you want to.  Create your own ways of fighting off anxiety and you are sure to perform beyond what is expected of you, which can help you live a fulfilled life!

ABOUT RYAN RIVERA, Publisher & Founder of http://www.calmclinic.com

Ryan Rivera has spent 7 years of his life suffering from, as he calls it, the “whole package” – panic attacks, severe anxiety, agoraphobia, social anxiety, unbearable physical symptoms, headaches, neck pains, constant tension, diarrhea, palpitations, pounding heart.  After trying numerous different treatments for his anxiety (including various medication) a tipping-point in his life made him overcome his emotional problems.

Have you found a great method to reduce anxiety? Please comment and share it!

I have learned to keep my schedule light and stop putting too much on my plate.  This has done wonders!  I also turn my phone on silent a few times a day, take a brisk walk and run a hot bath to keep me from going coocoo for cocoa puffs!

Remember, anxiety is often caused by FEAR so by letting go of the fear, you will also let go of your anxiety.   2012 brought a ton of stress for most of us, but we can make a few small tweaks to ensure the new year will be different.
