God’s Love Is The Electricity

MarianneW

For the past 15+ years, I have soaked up the wisdom and spiritual insight of Marianne Williamson.  The first book I read of hers was A Return To Love: Reflections of a Course in Miracles  and it forever altered my life. It was pivotal in helping me get on the path back to God. I’ve made reference to it many times here on SOS and if you still have not read it I encourage you to buy yourself a copy today!

Yesterday, I stumbled across the above video from the Super Soul Sessions and had to share it with you. Even after all her years of teaching, Marianne still gives aha, eye-opening insight on spiritual healing and growth. I’ve been dealing with challenging relationships lately and love how God leads you to the exact message you need.

I realize the holiday season is crazy and you may not have much free time, but please take a moment to watch if you crave some soul food. I guarantee it will fill you up!

Love,

Tiff

Grab Your Lady Balls, Gorgeous!

Gorgeous_marwilliamson

Hello Gorgeous!

Who’s happy it’s Saturday? ME! How was your week? I’m sure many of you are running around like crazy preparing the kids for back to school. Are you happy summer is almost over?

I had an off-the-charts week so I’m looking forward to resting, refueling and recharging this weekend. That consists of catching up on some reading, journaling, napping and cooking…yes, call me crazy, but cooking relaxes me. What “me” time activity will you be enjoying in this weekend? Do something that feeds your spirit. You can’t continue to give out if you do not fill back up.

Last Saturday, I had the honor and privilege of speaking on a panel alongside leaders in the Asian-American community hosted by Against The Grain Productions. I admit, although I’ve done it many times and even train others in public speaking- I still get nervous when I speak to a crowd! My hands sweat, I get a headache, I have to pee and my mouth feels like a desert. It’s easy breezy when I speak to a camera that goes to thousands, but feeling the eyeballs and energy in person makes my tummy flop. Perhaps it’s because you can see the approval or disapproval in their eyes and hear the laughs or silence. They say that speaking in public is one of the top 3 fears, right? When I was originally asked to participate, I went into that head spin of trying to talk myself out of it. “I’m not Asian enough to add value…I suck at speaking…I didn’t grow up in the Asian community…my dad is a Japanese redneck”  was the track playing on repeat on the CD in my head.

I took my own advice from my recent motivational video on stepping out of your comfort zone, grabbed my lady balls and went for it. Cue the Rocky soundtrack now, “Eye Of The Tiger”, baby! Daaa-Da-Da-Da…Rising up to the challenge..!  What is waiting for us on the other side of our comfort zone is freedom, confidence, self-assurance, peace and happiness. Although I did need a stiff skinny margarita afterward. Just saying’. Not only were the attendees inspired by what the panelists and I shared, but it was a mutual exchange of love, respect and appreciation. Remember, sharing your journey creates connection and several people came up to me afterward and said “me too”. What a blessing. I’m truly grateful to the ATG President and Co-Founder Tammy Nguyen Lee for this opportunity. Check out this recap by the eloquent Lisa Petty for DFW Style Daily.

Whew, thank God I didn’t chicken out and shrink back. A healthy challenge always open us up for the opportunity to grow. When we grow, we shine. Are you shrinking back and staying stagnant…which ultimately dulls your light? The world needs your light, sista! This experience reminded me of my life quote by Marianne Williamson. I have shared excerpts from this quote many times on SOS and it is truly appropriate for today’s message of courage.

Please take a moment to read it again, word for word and line by line.

Let it sink in.

Apply it to your life today and never look back.

Love, Tiff

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.

Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’

Actually, who are you not to be?

YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD.

Your playing small does not serve the world.

There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

STOP SHRINKING! You Are Meant to Live Big

playing_small

During my morning reading, the author made reference to my favorite quote by Marianne Williamson. I’ve loved this quote for many years, but the section that jumped out at me this morning was “your playing small does not serve the world”. This concept is part of the theme I want us all to live by this year! You may remember my new year wish that stated, “Laugh loud, love hard, live big”. Coming across this quote today solidified this theme for me.

Are you going to join me?

Read the entire quote slowly:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

― Marianne WilliamsonA Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”

  • Have you been living small?
  • Are you afraid of your innate power?
  • Do you realize (really, really, realize) you are a child of God?
  • Do you dim your light and shrink around certain people?

I lived small, wasn’t powerful, didn’t know my worth as a child of God and would shrink back for years. I even wore brown, beige or black during that period. I know that’s why I was so drawn to this quote. It resonated with me and has been a driving force behind SOS.  2015 is our year to shine brighter and by doing so we will give others the freedom to shine their brightest as well. Yes, there will be those who feel threatened by your radiance, but DO NOT dim your light so they will feel comfortable. Some friends will prefer the small you because it makes them feel big. A true friend will grow with you and support the new, shinier you. Shrinking and dimming is truly a disservice to the world and a slap in God’s face. He created you to shine!

The world does not need more women playing small. As my motto says, “confident women change the world”, so it’s time to stop dimming your light. The world is desperate for it. It’s time to stop holding back and start stepping out.. and struttin’ it! It’s time to stop crying and start laughing. It’s time to stop needing and start believing. It’s time to realize your gifts, share them and stop hiding them.

Small thinking leads to small actions which lead to a small life.

Big thinking leads to big actions which lead to a BIG LIFE.

Which do you choose?

Make a comment and share how you can live bigger in 2015.

CHARACTER Above CHARISMA (and a little dating advice)

Hey Sassy Pants!

character_above_charisma

I was pondering this topic lately and decided to write about it.  Charisma can initially attract us to a person, right?   Marianne Williamson says Charisma is a sparkle in people that money can’t buy.  It’s an invisible energy with visible effects.”   Webster defines it as a special magnetic charm or appealCharisma is a unique quality that we often call the “it” factor or good energy or charm.  Because I live in a city saturated with actors, dreamers and seekers, many times you don’t know if you are encountering the “real” person or not.  People “turn it on” in order to land the audition, sell the pitch or to put it simply– get people to like them.  I know we all have to turn on the charm in certain situations and no matter what industry you’re in, charisma really does play a major role.   But, no amount of skills, talent, or charisma can sustain us the way attitude, integrity, and character does!

OK, TIFF… GET TO THE POINT!

Let’s forget about the business aspect here.  Let me be clear– I’m not bashing charisma at all.  I wanted to share my thoughts on this for you single gals.

I admit I went out with several guys that sucked me in by their charm, wit, and charisma.  Then I quickly (well, some took months) found out they did not have the CHARACTER to back it up. **Oh the days of being young and naive**  But, I married the strong quiet type, thank God.  My husband didn’t try to charm me or sell himself.  His character and integrity spoke volumes right from the start.  That goes WAY beyond the charm and blinding charisma in my book.  You know those salesmen type guys… Aaachooo- I’m totally allergic to those types now.

So gorgeous, if you are dating– I just want to remind you to always look deeper than the surface sparkle and charisma.  Take the time to really get to know a guy before you throw it all down the drain (you know what I’m sayin’ sista?) and your head is spinning followed by a devastated heart.  Unfortunately, many people do not reveal their true nature until you are completely head-over-heels.  UGH- don’t you hate it when that happens?  You feel duped and blindsided.  The same can apply to friends as well.  Women can be so charming and sweet on the surface,  but then you find out they’re gossiping behind your back or  you can’t trust them as far as you can throw them or they have an agenda other than truly being a real friend.  Let’s save that discussion for another blog post.

If you are dating and hope to be be married to the man of your dreams one day, allow me to offer you this advice:

1) Start praying for your husband.   He’s out there somewhere living his life and probably wondering where you are too.  Pray for him to be blessed, safe, happy and healthy.  Also, ask God to be part of your dating life.  He really is the Ultimate Divine Connector.

2) Write down a list of every single quality you want in a man.  It may seem silly at first, but I ended up writing an entire spiral notebook about it.  I’m not saying make a list like “No back hair!”  Dig deeper and think about if  you want him to be a hands-on father, the spiritual leader of your family, a great communicator, emotionally sensitive, etc.

3) Work on your personal growth while you’re waiting for your knight to come sweep you off your feet.  Be as whole as you can be before you get married.  Many women think, “Oh, I’ll be happy when I’m finally married”– No darling, you should be happy with yourself and your life before you meet ‘the one’.  Two whole people have a much better chance at a successful marriage than two lost, insecure, unconscious people.  If you have followed my blog for a while, you know I openly discuss me being ‘one hot mess’ when I was younger.  I still had a lot of issues to work out, but I was well on my spiritual path, turned my life back to God, and was single for nearly two years before I got married.  You may think two years wasn’t very long, but I was a ‘relationship girl’ and often overlapped them.  You know what I’m talking about– you find the next one before you leave the last one.  Just keepin’ it real!

The most important thing to remember is to always treat, respect and think of yourself like a QUEEN and you will attract your KING!

What are your thoughts on charisma VS. character?  Are you excited to meet your king?  Do you have any dating or marriage questions for me?

I would love to hear your comments + thoughts.

PEACE & COMFORT {Sunday Affirmations}

angel_cross

My Sistas,

How are you?  I always seek guidance for the perfect and timely inspiration to share on the Sunday blog post.  But today, with the heartbreak we are all feeling from Friday’s devastation, all I am coming up with is the need to express my love for all of you and how we need to continue joining together in prayer.  I know we are being bombarded and overwhelmed with the media coverage so I will keep it short and sweet.  This week’s affirmations will be a bit different.  In the coming week, let’s switch our focus from specific “things and goals” we want to affirm to more focus on PRAYER.  I am very open about my belief in the Power of Prayer and have seen it’s remarkable effect on my life.  Will you join me?

Pray for our loved ones.

Pray for the families in Connecticut.

Pray for our nation.

Pray for our Government officials.

Pray for our Spiritual leaders.

Pray for our educators.

Simply…..PRAY.

Prayer immediately connects us to our Creator and wraps us like a warm blanket with peace and comfort.  Many of you are Mother’s and I can only imagine the rollercoaster of emotions you are feeling from anger, confusion, disgust, sadness and fear.   Again, simply pray and ask God for peace that passes ALL understanding.   I had to share this eloquent prayer written by Marianne Williamson:

Dear God,
We come to You with broken hearts,
surrendering the catastrophe that has occurred today in Connecticut.

We cannot comprehend the darkness that led to this,
or the suffering of those who have loved and lost.
They are both too big.

But in You, dear God, there are Answers we cannot surmise and Light we cannot summon by ourselves.
We present to you our brokenness, and the horror and pain of those who grieve.

May those who died find joy in the immortal realms.
May those who mourn them be comforted in this hour of their agony.

And may our prayers and actions be guided by You, dear God, to create a world where this occurs no more.
Amen
