Better Than Thin Thighs

Hello Fellow Kindness + Beauty Seekers!

A few days ago I opened my new May devotional from the legendary preacher, Dr. Charles Stanley. His opening message on kindness really grabbed my heart so I wanted to blast it everywhere!

“Our culture is obsessed with external beauty, but as hard as we may try to improve our outward appearance, we all eventually experience the effects of aging. (True Dat!!) Far more important is inner character, which lasts into eternity. And one of the most attractive inward qualities is kindness.

People characterized by kindness are considerate, loving, tenderhearted, helpful, and gentle. Those on the other end of the spectrum are quick-tempered, bitter, crude, and demanding. (Ugh- we all have crossed paths with these toxic types!) Basically, the difference has to do with whether one’s focus is on self or others. (I’ve had to deal with one too many narcissists in my day and I’m pretty much allergic to them now! You??)

God is characterized by kindness and we should “put on” this attractive quality. Kindness is God’s fruit displayed in our worlds and actions. Authentic (let me repeat that.. authentic! Meaning not fake!) kindness does not depend on how others treat us, not is it a manipulation to get what we want.” – Dr. Charles Stanley

Let’s think about that final sentence. OUCH! Spiritual maturity truth bomb right there. When someone does you wrong– our ego and human nature wants to treat them the same way back. Taking the higher road and rising above the immaturity will reap beautiful rewards like peace. No drama. A clear conscience. Ahhhh, this rewards bring such a wonderful life that unlocks the flow for blessings, miracle and pure joy!  The stronger person is the one who has self-control and instead of lashing out when mistreated, they choose the Kindness High Road.

You know the foundation of SOS is true beauty from the inside out. It’s such a blessing to encounter someone who walks in love and kindness! Although I am a total beauty and style junkie, I would rather be known for being a kind and loving woman than for thin thighs and a great handbag. Kindness is so stylish!

One of my favorite Audrey Hepburn quotes is in alignment with this message:

May we all “put on” more kindness today.
Please share this with your friends so we can see the ripple effect.

KNIGHTS DO EXIST

aaron-bday

Happy Birthday to my knight! Some say there’s no such thing as a knight in shining armor — I beg to differ! I never really thought I would get married. I was too messed up, but God sent you @aaronhendra to protect me and help me fight my battles. Exactly what a knight does! Thank you for showing up for US every single day. May God continue to direct your steps, shower you with favor and open doors of opportunity that no man can shut. You are chosen. You are destined. I love you

[Photos clockwise: Our wedding day at the end of the Santa Monica pier, Aaron installing an LED light panel in the orphanage in S. Sudan, our first scene on RHOD and Aaron on set of his music video for “Alive”]

___________________________________________

Hey Love Seekers!

The above Instagram post is to honor my husband on his birthday today. As I thought about him and our life together over the past 13 years, I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Gratitude to him for seeing past my brokenness to a girl who deserved to be loved.  See, when I met Aaron I had just embarked on a spiritual journey of healing from my past.

I was an emotional roller coaster.

I felt unlovable.

I was a hot mess.

I felt shame.

Unworthy…was the label stamped across my heart! (so I thought)

But, in the few months prior to running into Aaron on Beverly Drive on the beautiful fall day in LA I had begun praying for him even though I didn’t know “he” was the one. For many years, I didn’t believe I was worthy of love much less an amazing husband. I had already hit 30 and started facing the fact that maybe marriage wasn’t for me. Growing up a Southern girl, of course- I thought I would be married with 2 kids by the time I was 25. Hello, that’s what most good Southern girls life plan was in my generation, right? Here I was 30 with no prospects and in a city like LA where it felt like finding a good man was like finding a pair of Louboutin’s 75% off at Marshalls. Impossible!  I came close to giving up on love.

BUT GOD.

In 2002, when I hit rock bottom on that bathroom floor in West Hollywood (hear more on Access Hollywood) God heard my simple pray of “help”.  Often we think we need these long poetic wordy prayers, but the simple prayers like “thank you” and “help” are just as powerful. The beautiful thing about hitting bottom is there’s no where else to go but up! This was the beginning of my relationship with God then my relationship with myself then ultimately my relationship with my husband. I had to embark on a love affair with God and myself before I could meet Aaron and allow him to love me. Period. Most of my 20’s, I had turned my back on God and basically shot Him the middle finger. But He was always there. I really should be dead in a ditch somewhere. I should have died on that bathroom floor or in some random person’s bathroom in the Hollywood Hills. But I didn’t.  I began journaling my crazy thoughts and praying for God to bring me a strong man. I filled up several spiral notebooks describing that strong man.  I began praying for him everyday in that prayer journal. With each passing day, my hope grew. Then a year later- BAM- I ran into Aaron on that street and we were married 4 months later.

Trust me, I made the first 2-3 years of our marriage a nightmare! When the fear and old shame-based Tiff would creep up, I would push Aaron away and resist his love. He never gave up on me. He stayed consistent. Aaron saw me as a beautiful, whole, strong, intelligent woman. Not as the weak, broken, messy girl I saw myself as. God knew I needed him to hold my hand as I continued on this healing journey.  God knew Aaron needed me as well.

I felt compelled to share that beautiful glimpse of our story to encourage any of you who are seeking true, real, lasting love. Knights really do exist! Don’t give up hope. Allow the love of God to transform your life first. If you’re like I was and feel unworthy, remember God sees you as His gorgeous daughter. You are the apple of His eye. When you grasp that truth down in your spirit– it begins to heal your broken heart. It renews you. It takes away all the shameful labels you or others have placed on you. Put on God’s label and wear it proudly like the most stunning custom-made dress.

You are lovable.

You are worthy.

You are strong, beautiful and filled with purpose.

Allow Him to lead you to your partner. His connections are Divine.

Join  me in honoring Aaron today and if you are blessed with an amazing partner- tell them how grateful you are to be able to do life with them! It’s truly a gift.

Gossip VS. The Golden Rule

gossip_shutdown

Here’s your kick-in-the-bootie Monday Motivation!

After being on the hot mess express called RHOD for the past year and a half, the above quote really resonated with my soul. (Thanks for posting last week Jessica Youngblood!) One of the job requirements of this show is to do the exact opposite of this quote. You are hired to tear other women down, throw them under the bus and gossip about them with a capital G. This is the driving force of this train! For the girls girl and champion for women that I am– this was a real challenge because I prefer to ride on the Peace Train. Chooga Chooga Woot Woot!

[Disclaimer: I am so grateful for this opportunity with a huge network like Bravo because it forced me to get out of my comfort zone and every time we do that… we grow! I view the hard things, the struggles we go through (instead of shrinking back) as the real blessings in life. We weren’t named Real Housewives until after we finished filming so it wasn’t what I originally signed up for. I get it– people say it’s just entertainment,Also, I’m grateful for the exposure it gave my man. He will have performed about 100 gigs in 2016. His goal was 50 so he doubled that! YAY! ]

what-susie-says-about-sally-says-a-lot-more-about

Ok, back to the topic!  How often are you sitting at dinner on girls night out and someone starts bad mouthing one of your mutual friends.. who is not present to defend herself?  Over the past few years, I realize women gossip and tear other women down as a way to bond. Many of them do it under the disguise of “we need to pray for Sally because.. did you hear?” BAM, they drop something that should have been kept in confidence! This has to be the cruelest, most insecure and ugly way to bond with someone. There are a zillion things for women to bond over other than trash talking others. Using prayer as a way to sugar coat what they’re really doing is just UGH-Ugly.

Hey– I am not without guilt here.

I have been in that situation more times than I care to remember and should have had the ladyballs to shut it down every single time. When I didn’t, I always felt like I needed to go home and take a spiritual shower!  Remember, if someone is gossiping about someone to me – well, she is gossiping about me when I’m not around.

God has really working on my heart with this matter since my experience on RHOD.  I noticed a woman (or two) who I thought were “friends” would always bad mouth certain mutual friends when they weren’t around, but made me feel as they were “concerned” with that person. Heck no! They were gossiping. Straight up gossip and slander. Then, when this gossiper betrayed me.. I couldn’t be all that surprised, right. Is that what a “frenemy” is?  I guess I’ve been educated. God showed me that I would keep getting more of what I allowed. No, thank you!  I prayed for new uplifting friends and my prayers were answered. I was also led to many scriptures on the subject and love this one:

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29 NIV

How brave are you to shut down a conversation that is going in the wrong direction toward tearing someone down? Even if it makes everyone at the table uncomfortable for a moment. I think women are so eager to “bond” that it takes precedence over their integrity in these situations. It’s impossible for me to discuss this topic and not mention my BFF Heidi. She deserves major props because she is the one at the table who will risk making others feel uncomfortable over giving in to the gossip. I believe that iron sharpens iron and I want to be around women who help make me a better Tiff.

Remember, both gossip and complaining can be very contagious. Be aware and pay attention to how easy it is for you to start gossiping or complaining around certain people and limit your time with them in 2017. I promise it will change your year for the better!

great-minds-discuss-ideas-average-minds-discuss-events-small-minds-discuss-people-quote-4

If we all realized that what we put out there comes back to us 100 fold then we would keep our mouths shut when we are tempted to gossip. If you are being disloyal by telling someones secret or tearing someone down then you will get 100 times the negativity coming back to you. YIKES! No thank you!

Grandma had it right:

If you don’t have anything nice to say.. don’t say anything at all!

Also, let’s revive the Golden Rule:

Treat others as you wish to be treated!

TUNE IN NOTICE TONIGHT: My Past For A Purpose On Access Hollywood

Happy Monday Sistas!

You’ve heard me say a time or two that there are “no expiration dates on our dreams”.  I just experienced this in a major way! Tonight, you will hear how I am owning my past and using it all for a purpose on ACCESS HOLLYWOOD at 6:30 CST. What a surreal moment to be interviewed in my old stomping grounds by host Kit Hoover! It was such a blessed and heartfelt conversation about the sexual abuse I have overcome. Kit has two daughters and was totally invested in the interview and how we can empower young women with my story. Amazing how God can use a drama-filled reality show for His glory.

IMG_2162

The day was extra special because I shared this experience with my sister, Natalie. We moved to LA together and did the hustle and struggle together for years.

Also, make sure to tune in to Real Housewives Of Dallas tonight at 9pm CST. It gets really heated and I have had enough of all the drama. You will see a side of me you have and never will see on my videos! LOL. I’m human and this is a REALity show. I didn’t hold anything back, but please give me some grace when you watch! I even scare myself a bit. Eeeek.

If you’re on Twitter, make sure to tweet me and let me know your thoughts! @TiffanyHendra

Own Your Journey + Stop Living In Shame: Tiffany Hendra Addresses Her Racy Acting Past via Bravotv.com

Hey Sistas!

I knew God would convict me of the exact right time to open up about being raped at 16 and to address a few of the choices I made in my career. Now, you know the deeper reason why SOS is so important to me:

The Real Housewives of Dallas’ Tiffany Hendra is addressing the speculation about her acting days head-on by opening up about headlines that claim she starred in pornography, noting that the projects in question never veered into that territory. ‘Now’s the right time to address it because I am so ready. I am so willing every day,’ she told The Daily Dish about her resume’s unwanted attention.

“All of that [attention is] gonna come and the stuff that I’ve been through with this ‘porn thing’ and my acting career in L.A. and now just starting to share my story about being sexually assaulted [at age 16]…I knew all of that was gonna come,” she added. “I knew it, and I knew it was going to inspire people, so I really didn’t care.”

DO YOU HAVE THE LADYBALLS TO WEAR MY TEE’S?

LADYBALLS_wide.jpg

Now, I get that many of you may not be able to wear this tee to a PTA meeting although that’s actually THE perfect place you need to! Let’s be real.

USE YOUR LADYBALLS: Means stop allowing people to walk all over you. Stand up for yourself and use your lady balls. Basically, don’t take any BS that people try to throw at you! Synonyms: Courage, Bravery.

I am just tickled to death to finally launch my product line today in celebration of the Real Housewives Of Dallas premier tonight on Bravo. This has been a dream of mine since the conception of SOS! I do not consider myself a wordsmith by any means, but as we all know- Southern women have a way with blending sweet-as-pie sayings with in-your-face sarcasm. Then, you add my belief in the use of affirmations and you get “Tiffirmations”.

More styles are coming like HOT MESSAGE, WALK TALL, FIERCE/FEAR and a few others you will hear me say on the show, but I don’t want to give it away!

POWER DRESS FOR PRESS

entertainemtn_t

[On set for our Entertainment Tonight interview with Brice Sander at Lisa Vanderpump’s SUR restaurant]

What a whirlwind it’s been the past few weeks! The awesome kind of whirlwind with plenty of ‘pinch me’ moments. I had a plush room at the Four Seasons and dinner at Mastro’s- my favorite LA steak place while sitting across from other fellow Bravo family members like Dorinda, Ramona & Jules from RHONY and Shep & Cameron from Southern Charm. When you’re told that you and your cast mates are heading to LA for a big press tour, the panic starts with what to wear! Thanks to the brilliance of superstar stylist Jeanette Chivvis– the panic turned to peace & power.

Jeanette has this intuitive aspect to her styling. She just knows what is going to look most fabulous on you. I squealed when she showed me this canary yellow dress by Pink Lucy! It fit me perfect and I just knew it was THE dress for our Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight interviews.  As part of SOS, you know I’m a firm believer in the power of color. I felt happy, radiant and strong in this yellow. Day 1- a total style success!

Day 2- We had a full day of press junkets and red carpet interviews at the NBC Universal Summer Press Day. About 200 media outlets from all over the world are there to get the latest scoop on NBC Universal’s new stars and programming. My bestie, LeeAnne Locken and I were paired together for all the interviews so we made sure to coordinate our ‘power’ outfits. Jeanette had this stunning red custom made for me from London and she pulled this amazing white jumpsuit from Escada. To finish my look, she added jewelry from local Dallas designer, Harper Hallam. Nailed it! Oh and talk about a pinch me moment- looking over at the press booth next to you to see Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandell. I know what you’re thinking and yes, Heidi Klum is even more statuesque, stunning and stylish in person!

Back in Dallas, we started our local press tour with the lovely Meredith Land for NBC5 at the hotspot, Bistro 31.  Jeanette pulled this off-the-chain Elizabeth & James dress from Rent The Runway. Ok…seriously, I want to have this dress made in every color! It fit me like a glove and was super comfy. All about class, power and great fit.

RHOD_NBC5

Then, we were off to Culturemap Dallas for a fun interview with the fab Dawn Neufeld. Can we talk about my ridiculously fabulous new nude Louboutin’s?  Your dress needs to feel powerful, but your shoes should as well. I treated myself to a new pair specifically for this press tour. A great nude open toe heel is a life saver! If you do not own a pair put that at the top of your shopping list for Spring. I also love Stephanie’s patent nude Loubou’s. Really the perfect shoe. Period.

Our final stop was back at Bistro 31 for a very interesting interview with the Dallas Observer. I decided to change up my look and absolutely love a great jumpsuit! Love this kelly green, twist neck jumpsuit by BCBG is going to be my go-to for 2016. The Loubou’s worked again!  Are you getting it now..the importance of color when you’re going to a special event? Cary, Stephanie and I just ‘pop’ in this photo. Whether it’s a job interview, a wedding, important event or hot date- YOUR power color is always best! A great LBD always looks chic, but I always go for color first.

dal_arts_20160405_realhousewivesdallas_jourdanaldredge-2

The cherry on top of my big day was running into my BFF, Heidi. I love that our outfits matched! She was there for a quick happy hour with her hubby. Her colorful scarf style maxi sundress was so fun, sexy and fresh. Great tip: Throw a light sweater over your shoulders for the unpredictable Spring weather.

RHOD_greenjumpsuit

Our final Dallas press day began at the Dallas Morning News with the fun & sassy Dawn Burkes. We were told we could go more casual for this interview. I tried something I always want to do, but always forget. I added a contrasting shoe with my fabulous yellow blouse. It was so fun and I highly recommend it! Cary had an important surgery right after this interview and I love that she’s rockin’ her scrubs. It is REAL life!

IMG_1409.PNG

LeeAnne finished the day at CW-33. I chose this nude blush flowy dress by BCBG. Another great tip for doing on camera interviews or if you are on stage for a speaking engagement- more than likely you will be sitting in a tall directors chair or bar stool. Make sure to never wear a super short dress. Not flattering on the legs!
