DO YOU HAVE PMS? [repost]

Hello Kindred Spirits!

friends

  • Have you been running on fumes?
  • What have you been chasing?  Money….A Guy….Your 2 Year Old….Your Dream….Your Tail?
  • Are you focused and living with purpose?  Or are you all over the place with little direction?

We’re wrapping up our first week in 2017. How are you feeling? I am clearing the clutter of life and getting focused on my PMS to make sure I am in alignment with it and making the right choices to support it.   You’re probably wondering “what the heck is Tiff talking about, right”?  Of course, I’m not talking about that dreaded week every month when all hell breaks loose, your skinny jeans fit a bit too snug and our head seems to be detached from our body- I’m talking about my PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT!

DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT?

We should all be able to clearly verbalize our PMS in one sentence.  Whether you are a stay-at-home mom dedicated to raising healthy children or you are climbing the corporate ladder or volunteering your time to a non-profit organization close to your heart- living our lives with intention and knowing, without a doubt, what our mission in life is- gives us purpose and keeps us from just meandering through life.  Our PMS keeps us focused, brings us joy and gives us the guidance we need on those days when we feel unsure!

WE WERE ALL PUT ON THIS EARTH FOR A PURPOSE!

A personal mission consists of 3 parts:

  1. What do I want to do?
  2. Who do I want to help?
  3. What is the result? What value will I create?

Do you know your PMS?  Awesome!  Please share it with us with a comment below.

If not,  here’s  a fun exercise to help you open your heart and mind before attempting to write your PMS:

Sit in a comfortable, quiet space.  Close your eyes and clear your mind.  Imagine you are 90 years old- healthy, fulfilled and content- sitting in a porch swing with the sound of birds chirping and the wind rustling the trees.  You look back on your life and list all the miraculous things you did, places you visited and people you blessed by living FULLY IN YOUR PURPOSE.  Is there anything you regret not doing?   What were the things that mattered most to you over your lifetime?  When did you feel most alive?  What were you doing when you were effectively helping others?  Remember, this is not about how much money you earned in your life either!

Write all these things down.  At 90, our life is nearly over- that is if we actually make it to 90!   Do you want to be able to look back on it and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you TRULY LIVED YOUR PURPOSE?   You may not be able to write your PMS just like that- SNAP- in one day.  Give yourself time and you may have to do some serious soul searching.

I am going to make this story short and sweet.  There is really A LOT more to it which I will share another time!  In 2002, after booking plenty of TV shows and building a decent resume as an actress and TV host, I sensed something was missing.  I had come to LA and achieved what I “thought” would make me happy and fulfilled.  It didn’t.  I knew God had more for me to do on this Earth and I had felt that from the time I was a little girl, but I wasn’t quite sure what it was.  I always knew I loved to help people, but “help people” is very broad.

In June 2002, with some money in the bank after wrapping a TV show,  I left LA and went back to Texas for six months of soul searching.   I am so grateful I had the luxury to do this.  After 3 months of getting “still” and pretty much locking myself away from all the things that had always distracted me before- I received TOTAL CLARITY on what my PURPOSE was and wrote out my PMS.  I tear up as I write this now because that was such a profound time in my life.   I knew that I was here to “Empower, Educate and Inspire women- through my testimony and experiences- to live their most confident, fulfilled and powerful lives”.

I spent 3 more months in Texas writing my first treatment for a women’s talk show and taped a pilot!   This was the most amazing 6 months.  I went on to film two women’s talk shows and eventually started my YouTube Channel. When we clear the clutter of life and get through the storms, follow the rainbow and look within at the beautiful loving nature’s God gave us all- we find our pot of gold!  We waste so much time looking everywhere else for the gold, but it’s within each of us.  Then when we share that gold with others- WE HAVE FOUND OUR PURPOSE!

“Writing or reviewing a mission statement changes you because it forces you to think through your priorities deeply, carefully, and to align your behaviour with your beliefs”

We should all support one another on our mission in life.  Thank you for being part of mine!

NO! Two Little Letters…..So Much Power (Plus Part 2)

Hi Powerful Peacocks!

You ready to get your fill of Beauty, Style + Inspiration?  This blog post is busting at the seams with it!  You may want to grab a pen and paper.  Kick back and let the fun begin…

Not being able to SAY NO is a topic that comes up often among us gals. If you don’t have an issue with it- kudos girlfriend!  It is definitely something that took me a while to get a handle on and still find it to be a challenge.  Grrrr- this tiny little word with those two little letters can have such a kung fu grip on us.  We all have so many commitments these days between our families and their commitments, friends, career demands, church, community plus all the extra-curricular activities like small group meetings, team sports, etc.  WHEW!  I’m worn out just writing all that. Women tend to be “people pleasers” and do not want to let anyone down by not agreeing to help with a task, do a favor or attend an event.  It is just a fact that you cannot be productive if you over-commit yourself! By spreading yourself too thin, you will end up jeopardizing your important priorities and ultimately your health and stress level.   Take the pressure off yourself and start saying “NO” politely and with love.  Here’s 5 tips to help you get started:

  1. YOUR TIME IS PRECIOUS!  Start valuing it by dedicating your time to your priorities. If you don’t have your priorities straight, then start there first!
  2. PRACTICE SAYING “NO”!  Like everything in life, we must practice, practice, practice. Eventually you will be comfortable saying it. I promise.
  3. BE UNAPOLOGETIC! It is important to be polite, but it’s okay to be firm when you are protecting your time.
  4. TAKE A BEAT!  It is totally acceptable to say, “let me get back to you” or “maybe later”.  If it’s a situation that sounds interesting, but you simply do not have the time for it right now- maybe you can rearrange your schedule or fit it in when you have some free time later.
  5. LET GO OF THE GUILT!  Stand your ground and respect your decision for saying no.   We tend to feel guilty later, but that serves no purpose. Let it go, you made your mind up and move on.

Do you find saying “NO” difficult?  Have you overcome it?  Please leave a comment!

HERE’S PART 2 OF KILL THAT SUMMERTIME SHINE:

A few of you have already picked up the Physicians Formula SPF 50 and said you love it! Woohoo!

STYLE TIP FOR THE WEEK:

One of the reasons I love summer so much is that we’re able to rock fun exotic prints that have an international flare plus tropical florals, great woven bags and bright jewelry like that great turquoise piece you picked up in Mexico!  I’ll be chatting more about this in an upcoming webisode on MY SUMMER ESSENTIALS.  A great Tribal or Navajo print is definitely a MUST ROCK!  I’m drooling over this BCBG dress that just came out:

A BIT OF DESSERT WITH A CHERRY ON TOP:

I was asked for my recommendations on books I found helpful along my path of Spiritual growth and healing.  There are so many more that this list, but here is a list of books I highly recommend:

  1. The Bible. The best “self help” book ever.
  2. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.  I like to read this once a year!  It’s not just about financial riches.
  3. The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide To Personal Freedom by Miguel Ruiz.  4 simple but profound things to apply to our lives to bring peace, grace and unconditional love.
  4. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. Learning to live fully present. Another one I re-read yearly.
  5. Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer.  The most brilliant guide to overcoming negative thinking and depression.
  6. As A Man Thinketh by James Allen. I actually keep this on my nightstand 24/7. It’s all about your thoughts relating to your circumstances.
  7. The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer. Encourages determination and a never-give-up attitude.
  8. Your Best Life Now by Joel Osteen. Steps to living your full potential.
  9. Sacred Contracts: Awakening Your Divine Potential  by Carolyn Myss. Discovering your life purpose.
  10. The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron.  Helps unlock creativity and the Spiritual connection to it.

A few other’s that just popped in my head that I just cannot leave out are A Course In Miracles,  A Return To Love by Marianne Williamson and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey.

Do you have a ‘must read’ book that was life-altering for you? Please share!

What is your PMS like? Not the kind you’re thinking…

Hello Kindred Spirits!

My head is spinning with the idea that November is around the corner.  I do hope you all have had an Outstanding October!

  • Have you been running on fumes in over-drive all year?
  • What have you been chasing?  Money….A Guy….Your 2 Year Old….Your Dream….Your Tail?
  • Are you focused and living with purpose?  Or are you all over the place with little direction?

Once November arrives, we will have just 60 days left in 2011 which gets me thinking about the New Year on the horizon.   Whoa- 2012 is almost here ladies!  The thought of this has put me in a reflective mode.
