MONDAY MOTIVATION: Looking Beyond

Beautiful big blue eyes

HELLO GORGEOUS!

Happy Monday. I trust you all had a wonderful weekend and many of you will be off of work today to celebrate Veteran’s Day. God Bless all the heroes and sheroes who have so courageously served our country.

Over the past few weeks, the following topic has been on my heart and I wanted to share it here with you. If you are tuned into Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday’s or have your nose in the latest self-development books, you know the topic of Ego is everywhere. Allowing the ego to rule is an epidemic that, we as a society, try to protect ourselves with it. Is is really protection? No, it’s not. The Ego robs you of the beauty, love, grace, joy and connection we all long for. We can view the EGO as Edging God Out. When we edge God out, we are edging LOVE out. I wore so many masks for years and would throw a wall up in a New York minute if my Ego felt threatened. This was misery! Life is lackluster and in black & white, it’s cold and unfulfilling when you allow the Ego to run things.

When we shift from Ego to Love, our world changes. It becomes joy-filled, vibrant, exciting, colorful and whole.

Look beyond…open your eyes. This week see beyond a person’s mask, walls, hard heart and the superficial facade they guard themselves with. Allow your  HEART  to see their HEART.. instead of your Ego greeting their Ego. Beyond everyone’s Ego is a Child of God longing to BE SEEN for who they really are.

  • Do you protect yourself with a mask?
  • Are you afraid to let others SEE you, but you secretly long for them to?
  • Do you judge others for their superficial exterior or can you see their authenticity beyond the “act”?
  • Can you see someone’s heart even though it may be covered with scars, a lock & chain and layers of pain?

I challenge us all to really SEE the purity and greatness in others and in turn, others will be free to see the greatness in us. Lose the term “take it for face value” and look deeper. You will be blessed for it!

Love, Tiff

CONSISTENTLY COURAGEOUS {Sunday Affirmations}

quote-courage-is-the-most-important-of-all-the-virtues-because-without-courage-you-can-t-practice-any-maya-angelou-5507

Hey Wonder Woman!

Last week I watched the episode of Super Soul Sunday with Maya Angelou online.  Have you seen it?  I think Part 2 is still posted so try to catch it.  Her story of courage, triumph, bravery and success has been resonating with me all week.  In this Oprah interview, Maya spoke of the concept of courage being the foundation of all other virtues (above quote) so it forced me to look inward at my own level of courage.  Often throughout my life, I have been courageous and brave, but there are also many times I have tucked my tail between my legs and chose to shrink back.  We all have a certain level of courage, but what is that special ingredient that gives us that little bit extra tenacity to tap into our inner Wonder Woman and push forward instead of shrinking back?  Can you think of a time right now when you consciously chose to dig deeper and dust off your red + gold bustier?  It’s a great exercise to reflect on those moments as a reminder for the next time we are tempted to be a coward instead of courageous.

Courage is the ability to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation.

I takes courage to walk down the aisle and make the vow. It takes courage to wake up everyday and raise your child.  It takes courage to follow your dreams.  It takes courage to walk away from a toxic relationship.  It takes courage to speak your truth. It takes courage not to conform.  It takes courage to let go of your past. So, yes– I definitely believe in Ms. Angelou’s concept that it takes courage to practice all the other virtues consistently.  Cheers to all of us having more consistent courage this week.  Even if you have to fake-it-till-ya-make it.  You can be courageous even when you don’t feel like.  I love John Wayne’s quote, “Courage is being scared and saddling up anyway”. Go lock yourself in the bathroom and do the Wonder Woman spin if it will help….

THIS WEEK I WILL…..

  1. Reflect on my many courageous moments.
  2. Dig deeper when I feel my wimpy self taking over.
  3. Not shrink back.
  4. Dust off my imaginary red + gold bustier.
  5. Remember God is always on my side.
  6. Be brave!
  7. Never ever ever ever give up.
  8. Not allow anyone to intimidate me.
  9. Face my fears head on.
  10. Pray to have more courage.
  11. Do the right thing.
  12. Put my shoulders back + WALK TALL!

BRILLIANT BRENE BROWN

Hey Style + Spirit Sistas!

Often, I am asked to refer books that I love or that have impacted me.  I cannot rave enough about the Brilliant Brene Brown and encourage you all to pick up her book, The Gifts of Imperfection.  She is amazing!  I am about halfway through and couldn’t wait to finish it before I shared it with all of you!  Books seem to choose me when I am meant to read them in order to fully receive the message.  Who relates?  This book has been sitting behind my desk among a stack of about six books in my “to read” pile.  My mom gave it to me two Christmas’s ago and I remember flipping through it and loving the title, but for some reason I didn’t feel compelled to read it then.  As a recovered perfectionist, every word of this easy-to-read book has resonated with me and if you need to LET GO of the woman you think you’re suppose to be…please read it and begin embracing who you really are!

A few weeks ago, in my Spiritual Mastermind Women’s Group, a few gals were raving about this Brene Brown who had recently been on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday.  I was intrigued and spent the next week researching her and watched not only her SSS episodes, but all her TED TALKS videos as well.  She speaks with simple clarity on topics like shame, vulnerability, connection, courage, worthiness and living a wholehearted life.  All the things that many women find difficult to face, voice and express.  HAVE I MENTIONED HOW AMAZING SHE IS??  Plus, she gets major brownie points for being a sassy fellow Houstonian!   The full episodes are still posted on the OWN website so I encourage you to check them out.  They won’t be up for much longer.  Go to, http://www.oprah.com/own/episodes.html

Also check out her video on vulnerability:
