NEVER GIVE UP! SOS Celebrates 10,000 YouTubers

SOS_Youtube

Hey Style Seekers!

When I began taping videos on my blackberry in 2010, I wasn’t sure what the heck I was doing, but what I was completely sure of was that I had this deep desire to help women, all over the world, to see themselves as beautiful and confident.  YouTube was really starting to take off and become the “go to” spot on the web for those seeking info and tips on a variety of topics.  I had a successful TV career and loved working front of the camera, but I always had writers tell me what to say, directors telling me what to do and lighting/camera/sound people to make it all happen and look good.  I believe I mentioned this before, but the first light set up we had in the closet was a nightstand lamp with a white sheet hanging in front of it as a diffuser. I’m giggling to myself when I think back at Aaron and I trying to create a set with absolutely no equipment. After lots and lots and LOTS of trial +  error, I figured out how to write a decent sounding segment and produce an effective webisode from start to finish. I brushed up on the changing industry and took some courses with THE hosting and branding expert, Marki Costello. Plus, being the nerd that I am, I taught myself how to edit on iMovie and now Final Cut Pro. I’m surprised I still have a full head of hair! I wanted to pull it all out many times. But when you have the will, you find the way…and giterdone.

Why am I sharing this?

I’m very excited that my YouTube Channel reached 10,000 subscribers this week! When I created my YouTube account, I didn’t know anything about subscribers or how to brand yourself or how to build this platform. Hello, my name was Tiffany “Clueless” Hendra! In 2002, I stepped away from my career in Hollywood to focus on my Spiritual journey and to figure out the real assignment God had for me. Whoa- again, I was clueless and had no idea the rollercoaster of a journey I was about to embark on!

As my vision to help women became more clear and in focus, I went back to my first love- fashion- and started working at a woman’s boutique as a buyer and image consultant. Then, I began studying skincare after a devastating bout with hormonal acne and became a skincare consultant. During this time, I also began instructing a teen girls self-development class. But, the core of my dream was to work in front of the camera again on a show that reached the masses. Today, with tears in my eyes and gratitude to God, I celebrate you all and the 10K people on YouTube who have joined my mission.

If you have a dream or nudge in your gut to do something…

DO NOT IGNORE IT!

DO NOT WAIT TO HAVE IT ALL FIGURED OUT!

Start taking baby steps today and stop caring what others may think. Hey- I actually put crappy videos on the world wide web for all to see. Call me naive and cray cray-crazy! My first blog looked like a first grader did it. Even putting yourself and your thoughts out there on a blog is daunting. But, a bit of crazy combined with guts, purpose and passion– can lead to fulfilling and exciting things. Now, I never dreamed women would be hiring me to help them create their video content and build their YouTube Channels. Thank God my passion or my crazy overpowered my naivety and I just kept putting one foot in front of the other. Remember, it’s ok to start simple. Just put your idea to paper and write a mission statement. Here’s mine from 2005:

Today, young women have more opportunity than ever, but at the same time, more obstacles to face. I have a responsibility to educate, inspire, and empower women through my testimony and life experiences.  It is my mission to be a guide to women, especially young women, who may not have the parental or social guidance they so desperately need.  Tiffany Hendra, 02.03.05

Did I ever feel like giving up? Of course!

Did I doubt myself? Heck yes!

But, I kept praying, believing and hoping. Even if it feels like all you have is a tattered thread of hope at times, keep hanging on to that thread. That thread can change everything.

Thank you all for joining me on this journey.

Love, Tiff

LOVE YA LIKE A SIS: Women Need Women

Hey Sisters,

As women, we thrive and function at our best when we have a supportive sisterhood of like-minded friends.  This all began for me when I was very little.  Whether it was playing with my cousins (who were all girls except for one) or my sports teams or cheerleading squads, I was always blessed to have a great group of girlfriends.  Back then, we loved throwing slumber parties and giggling about boys and dancing around my parents living room.  Not much has really changed.  If you catch a group of my girlfriends at my BFF’s house in Dallas….before the end of the night– the furniture is moved and the living room is turned into a dance floor!   When women connect, it does something differently to our spirit than connecting with our boyfriends/husbands or children does for us.  If we go too long without “girltime” or hashing out life over a cup of coffee with a dear friend, our spirit suffers a bit.  Don’t you notice how your spirit is lifted after a good dose of fun with a great group of girlfriends?  You have a pep in your step and that warm & fuzzy feeling resonates with your for a few days after.   Encouraging and supportive female energy is a mighty force that we all need in our lives.

When I began healing and growing in my late 20’s, I went through a dark and lonely time.  I began to “outgrow” friends and was too emotionally raw to get out there and make new ones.  Of course, I am so grateful for this period in my life because that’s when I got to know God.  He truly is the greatest Positive Force, Friend and Father.  I also starting watching “The Oprah Winfrey Show” much more and noticed it gave me that “lift” I was missing.  I felt connected and that hour episode on TV had become my “girltime”.   I kept this in mind as I began to create my talk show ideas and figuring out how I could use the power of video to help women.  I knew if I felt lonely then there had to be so many women around the world who felt disconnected like I did.  One of the best comments I receive about my webseries, this blog, and the Facebook community is how it gives you Mom’s a sense of girltime once the kids are in bed and you have some time alone on the computer.  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Over time, I was blessed to connect with new, like-minded, spiritually conscious girlfriends and have created deeper friendships than I’ve ever had before. Whether it is online with social media or offline in real life, I encourage you to connect and reach out if you are in that lonely space.  Ask about groups in your community or church.  If you can’t find one, start one of your own.  My girlfriends and I here in LA did just that and it has made a huge difference in all of our lives.  LA can be a very disconnected place because there is not the same sense of community as in more family-friendly cities.  We have done a great job of creating our own surrogate LA family/sisterhood.  We can get a brief shot of connection and friendship on Facebook, but nothing can take the place of feeling a friends hug, sharing a laugh (or cry) and making eye contact.  A sisterhood gives you a sense of belonging and a knowing in your spirit that “I am not alone”.  I swear, it has to help with your immune system and overall health & wellness too!

  • CONNECT
  • REACH OUT
  • MAKE THAT CALL
  • JOIN A GROUP
  • START A GROUP
  • SCHEDULE WEEKLY COFFEE/LUNCH DATES

I’m filled with gratitude today for all the amazing women in my life including this SOS Sisterhood.

SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT YOUR PURPOSE

Hola Senorita Bonita!

Are you frustrated because you’re unsure of what your purpose is?  Here’s some good news about that….

Isn’t that comforting to know you are right where you are meant to be, no matter what your age?  HOLLA!

As always, I love hearing your thoughts!  Here’s a great comment from YouTube:

“Thank you very much for this! I thought that in my 30’s my life would be settled and its not what I expected it to be at all.  Comparisons are so easy so fall into. But this is honestly time for me to evaluate my friends, my values and focus on a simple, content life.”

P.S.  New style webisode coming soon! I promise!

GRATITUDE. A love note to you.

Hi Gorgeous Girls!

Over the past week or so, every fiber of my being has been flooded with HUMONGOUS GRATITUDE.  The kind that gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling complete with goose-bumps, hair raising on the back of my neck, girlie giddy excitement in my belly and a tear in my eye. Have you ever felt such bigtime gratefulness before?  Want to know the reason for mine? It’s because of YOU.  Yep, you girlfriend!

When I began a deep spiritual journey to figure out what the heck I was meant to do- it was exactly 10 yrs ago this month.  In the summer of 2002, I walked away from my TV career in LA, gave away most of my clothes and all my furniture and went back to Texas to get my head on straight. {GRATEFUL} That is when I birthed my idea (well, God really planted the seed) to help women through a community, website and TV show. Can you believe that was 10 years ago? I can’t! I had no idea how to get started or what the heck I was doing, but I just started putting it out there with child-like naivety. I laugh now because I thought I was ready to do a show back then and got totally pissed off that it wasn’t happening faster.  I had to go through MAJOR healing, changes and growth first.  I was a mess, but I had this BIG vision. After a 6 month sabbatical in Texas, I headed back to LA with this new dream!{GRATEFUL}

Within these 10 years, I have hosted several TV pilots geared for young women (one production company spent over $1 Million on our pilot) and they never went to air on TV.  Grrrr!  (This is where I give gratitude for the doors God closes!)  This was long before Facebook, YouTube, Blogs and the Flip camera. Now it’s easy for anyone to start taping their message and blast it to the world. Whew, I wanted to give up so many times, but a God-given dream just doesn’t leave you alone. It really is like you are pregnant with this idea/purpose/vision. I just couldn’t abort this dream!  I had this mad, crazy drive to help women…somehow, someway. I collaborated with several different producers with the hopes something would work. It never did.  When I finally realized it just wasn’t the right time, I decided I had to do something…..ANYTHING! I started teaching a self-development class and created a curriculum for 13-17 year olds as well as working in a fun, girlie boutique on the weekend. Gals would come sit in the boutique and chat about all the different life issues we girls love to talk about. Wish I had a camera in that boutique back then. It was like a talk show in there! Little did I know, these opportunities turned out to be an amazing training ground and preparation. {GRATEFUL} I still hoped and prayed to work on camera again, but shelved my show idea for a while (true surrender) and just lived life…WITH EXPECTANCY!

The reason I’m telling you all of this is the seed has grown slowly over the years (a little too darn slow at times) into a bud and then 2 years ago-this month- I pitched my show idea in front of one of the biggest television producers, Mark Burnett of The Apprentice, The Amazing Race and Survivor, for a show he was producing for Oprah.  Holla!  Yes, I almost crapped my pants that day, but…. I DID IT!  It’s as if it made it all REAL. It was no longer this concept that swirled around in my head driving me coocoo for coco puffs.  I put it out there! There was no taking it back. The universe had a hold of it. I went all the way to the last 20 finalists, but wasn’t chosen for the show. Again, thank God for the closed doors. After I caught my breath from that 3 month audition process, I finally had the guts to start taping my ideas. The only video camera I had at the time was the one on my blackberry. I had no idea what I was doing (I still don’t really), but I had to start somewhere. Then my brave hubby offered his help as camera man and we got a decent little video camera. Our first attempt at a light set up was a nightstand lamp with a white sheet as a reflector. Ha! We have come a loooooong way! {GRATEFUL}

Here we are today. I’m grateful for the ease of Facebook, WordPress, YouTube and the ability to create the community that we have.  I had to stop and send YOU a heartfelt thank you for sharing, joining, watching, subscribing, and reading. Thank you for allowing me to try different things and discuss different topics, all with the pure intention of helping you build confidence, believe in yourself and truly love yourself and your own unique beauty + style. My dream of creating a SISTERHOOD is becoming a reality. Thank You God. Thank You Aaron (my hubby). Thank You Girls.

WHAT ARE YOU TRULY GRATEFUL FOR TODAY?

I highly recommend making gratitude lists on a regular basis. It will change your life. It’s simple:

I AM GRATEFUL FOR___________________.

I AM GRATEFUL FOR___________________.

I AM GRATEFUL FOR___________________.

I AM GRATEFUL FOR___________________.

I AM GRATEFUL FOR___________________.

I AM GRATEFUL FOR___________________.

I hope you can also be grateful for your journey and remember, never give up.

Love, Tiff
